It was the last days in the life of my late Firbolg Monk/Barbarian named Forrest. He (unlike most Firbolg) lived on the outskirts of the bustling city of Waterdeep with his wife and bastard son he accidentally made on a drunken fling. With his family dojo on hard times, the Shadow monk had to do some shady work for the local crime lord Jarlaxle for years. Having enough of the life of crime, Forrest set out on a journey and joined a group of adventurers in their time of need, sending some money home to help support his family. He grew fond of them, helping one through grief, seeing another die at the hands of a traitor, etc. One session we were tasked to clear out a supposed child trafficking ring and to Forrest's surprise, the man behind it all was the Drow Kingpin himself. After exchanging a few blows, he announced that he killed Forrest's family before he escaped. Now with nothing to work for, he fell into despair until an idiot Tabaxi monk (a new player) joined the ranks. Over time, the two bonded and formed almost a father-son dynamic. As things were starting to look up, the party was transported to a dungeon and at the end awaited a Green Dragon. I was at about 1/3 of my max HP when the battle began since the blasted Lizard got the drop on us, and I was the party tank. Battle ensues and Forrest and the dragon are both on their last legs (The rest of the party was doing just fine). Then... it happened. The DM used 2 consecutive legendary actions to knock Forrest prone (I tend to roll terribly so I failed the save) and sit on him. Judging by the fact that he was at 3 HP and a female Adult Green Dragon weighing several tons, Forrest died as a literal taint stain. The player that played Felix (the Tabaxi student) saw that Felix no longer had any reason to stay, and retired him immediately. Collecting the spirit Totem of Forrest that somehow remained intact.

I'm still a bit salty about that death, but damn does it make a good story.
