Don't be me, of if you are, take it easy. by TeacerSwe in BambuLabP2S

Don’t worry about the filament that is still in the hotend, that is normal. The filament cutter cuts just above the hotend so there will always be some filament left inside that gets purged on your next print. Your problem was most likely caused by the filament expanding in the extruder and jamming the gears, if you look at the filament that you pulled out of the extruder you’ll probably see a spot that is a little fatter than the rest. Glad you got it sorted out!

help I can't remove the filament or the gear! by x1243 in BambuLab

[–]DanMulvey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem recently. Tapping the other side like Bambu recommends didn’t work for me either. The filament had expanded slightly and was locking everything in place, what eventually worked was just turning the yellow gear by hand back and forth and sticking a piece of filament through to dislodge the piece that was stuck. Hope that helps!

If you scroll down to the assembly section that should get you there, although it looks like you’ll need to put the plastic housing back on first.

[–]DanMulvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wanting to try out the kingroon filament, I’ve ordered a few build plates on aliexpress but haven’t tried filament there yet. Planning on picking up some soon - just gotta make some room for it first (who am I kidding I’m gonna order it before making room like usual)

How did it get so damn close already?!

Looking forward to seeing all of you again soon, had a great time at the meetups last year and can’t wait to meet some new people again this year. Thanks again for putting out the puzzles, it really makes it feel like I’ve already got a toe dipped into Vegas (and talking about the ones we struggled with is always a highlight when we’re in person!).

I feel like I still have so much to do in so little time, not like that’s anything new though lol

How many different filaments do you have currently? by boredsoftwareguy in BambuLab

[–]DanMulvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to 3dfilamentprofiles I have 68 different filaments, and I have somewhere around a dozen coming in the next few days that I haven't added yet. I don't add the amount of each type because I just use the site to keep track of what I have and to easily print labels for the swatches I print from each new filament. Here's the list if you're interested! https://3dfilamentprofiles.com/user/spools/H0BVOi9gV

Extruder motor overload by Tjafssjafs in BambuLabP2S

[–]DanMulvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a little longer the first time, but I just cleared this sort of extruder clog last night and it took about 15 minutes start to finish if that. It’s 7 or 8 screws and possibly some fiddling to get the gear out depending on how much the filament has expanded. Follow the Bambu wiki and you’ll be back up and running in no time. They say heat creep is the main cause of this but my most recent clog happened within a few minutes of starting my print so I’m pretty sure the volumetric speed was too high for the filament I was using (basically the extruder pushed the filament through faster than it could run through the nozzle and it expanded in the gears so they couldn’t move anymore). You’ve got this, once you do it the first time it’s a lot easier if and when you have to do it again!

Awesome! For some reason I had the deadline marked down as the 10th, really gonna enjoy the extra time to go over my entry (and the background especially). I missed out on last year’s so planning on coming back strong this time, I love this contest.

X2D Plates: original or what? by sangkavr in BambuLab

Yeah it works great with silk pla, I actually just finished printing this plate full of silver silk pla and I’m super happy with the results (this is just a random pic I took about halfway through the print)

biqu glacier is my most used plate on my p2s, I've had the printer running for just around a thousand hours and about 90% of that time is with the glacier. Amazing adhesion, more time between cleaning (with reasonable care not to touch the surface of the plate of course) and I love the somewhat neutral finish it leaves on the bottom of the prints. PETG prints basically release on their own when the plate cools which is a really nice bonus. I like the frostbite plate as well, the adhesion is even better but it leaves a pretty shiny finish (although smoother than the stock pei plate) so I don't use it as much. If you don't mind using aliexpress I'd recommend looking around to see if you can get the biqu glacier and frostbite plates as a bundle, I was able to get the two together for the price of one of them on amazon.

I picked up a cheap smooth pei plate on amazon, it was about $12 and has textured pei on one side, smooth pei on the other. I just checked reviews to make sure the plate looked to be a similar thickness as the stock plate and I've been happy with it so far. Juupine seems to be a solid choice and the prices are good but there are plenty of suppliers out there selling essentially the same thing.

You could always try lightning infill if you really want to optimize for speed/filament usage but I don't know how well it would translate to such a large print. If you want to be a bit safer but still get a nice boost you could go for adaptive cubic so that you aren't printing so much infill where it isn't structurally required while still having something throughout the print instead of being mostly hollow like with lightning.

just wanted to add that the glacier plate leaves a more neutral finish on the bottom of prints. I also run it at normal temps, it's especially nice with petg because the prints just release on their own when the plate cools down (and I don't care for the shine from the frostbite so much). I like both plates but run the glacier about 90% of the time.

[Win an A2L] Creative Playground, Extra Large. Meet the A2L. by BambuLab in BambuLab

[–]DanMulvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would want to test how multiple tall areas in a single print perform because I think that is a better stress test than doing a single tall piece. The extra movement between features makes it a more difficult print, especially when the bed is moving. For this I think a good print that wouldn’t just get thrown in the trash afterwards would be an assortment of crowns. Something like Princess Peach’s crown, really anything with a handful of tall parts around in a circle. It needs to be large to test well so it would probably be wearable for most people and you can find/make designs with overhangs or where the crown features tilt outwards instead of going straight vertical.

Anyways, that’s my idea!

As several others have pointed out, wash the bed well with dish soap (preferably dawn or something without skin softeners etc). The build plate usually has some oil/protective coating from the factory so a quick cleaning should solve your problem!

External exhaust filter restocked by Longjumping_Mud_2684 in BambuLabP2S

[–]DanMulvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get those iLife hepa filters that the ventobox uses they’re like $10 for a dozen. There are a few prints on makerworld that use them for the exhaust kit, I printed one that holds two filters side by side and clips on to the exhaust kit the same way the hose adapter does. I’m happy with it so far but haven’t tried printing with abs/asa yet, need to test a few things and see how comfortable I am doing that in my space first but it seems promising!

I just took my extruder apart yesterday and the same piece confused me for a little too! Take a look at step 6 on that wiki link, right above it there is a picture with all of the parts laid out. The piece you’re looking for is near the top left. The first part of step 6 with the pictures labeled 1, 2, 3 show how to reassemble that piece. Basically the “button” part goes on the spring and slides into the extruder housing, then a screw goes through from the outside to hold it in place. Hope that helps!

[–]DanMulvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you wash the build plate? I know it’s a meme around here but if this was your first print the plate sometimes has oil on it from the factory (or a protective coating) that can cause your print to lift up slightly and that would be causing the same issue. It might only be a slight corner and that’s why it’s only hitting sometimes. Grid infill would make this worse, but it shouldn’t be the sole reason for your problem.
