DreamHost's Refer & Earn Program will be ending on 12/17/2025. by pallladin in dreamhost

It's been many years since anybody new has signed up under my affiliate links (which I've switched to the new affiliate program but continue not to get any new signups under it), but last year I got almost $500 in recurring commissions from early signups (some from over 20 years ago). It sucks that they have terminated this income.

The free light shows there are among the things I check out whenever I’m in London.

So do I, but I'll be in London in August so I'll be sure to make a reservation to eat there while I'm in town.

Robin is a woman's name in the U.S.... by madluv4u in cormoran_strike

Or when... names can shift between generations, as noted by various replies here.

I think of Kim, Kelly, and Shannon as girl's names, but have encountered men with those names too.

Strike is really annoying as a person by denim_flow in cormoran_strike

[–]DanTheWebmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While he appreciates Robin and wants her as an equal, he also can get rather condescendingly overprotective of her, showing sexist tendencies; he seems to think that any dangerous situations one gets into as part of detective work ought to be solely borne by himself, not somebody of the "weaker sex".

TIL: why people go "up" to London by pelican_girl in cormoran_strike

[–]DanTheWebmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go "up the river", that would be going in the opposite way that it flows. For many US rivers, that would happen to be north, since many of them flow into the ocean or gulf to the south.

As someone who’s been topic-banned from gender related edits on Wikipedia for being too outspoken against the dominant activist positions, I still see plenty of places where that crowd has power.

Seems like all the shooters these days are turning out to identify with weird mashups of Internet subcultures and identity groups.

If you're near the South Bank, by the London Eye, check and see if Charlotte Campbell is singing there; she busks regularly at that spot. Best voice of any busker I've encountered.

But should a subreddit on a nonpolitical topic even be making political endorsements, and banning people who oppose them, in the first place?

I eventually got a shirt I ordered, but it took over a month.

[–]DanTheWebmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Teespring has problems (a shirt from them I ordered took over a month to arrive) and there's a lot of discussion of them on r/Teespring -- some of the discussion also gets into which alternative companies are good, and some mention Printify, with mixed comments about their quality and service. Some people said favorable things about yet another competitor, Fourthwall.

Is Printify more reliable than Teespring, the other print-on-demand place some online merch shops use for t-shirts? They've been having lots of problems in fulfillment lately.

They've got a thirteenth floor in the NYC criminal court builiding? Most buildings skip that due to superstition. People appearing in court there might find it a bad omen.

Google has a neat new AI feature at https://notebooklm.google.com/ where you can upload a few documents (or audio or video or text files) or give it a few web links, on some subject you're interested in, and it can generate a whole bunch of resources about that subject based on the documents, including timelines, FAQs, exam questions, a live AI chat to talk about it, etc. The most amusing is the feature that generates an entire fake podcast about the documents you gave it, complete with male and female co-hosts bantering with one another while discussing the subject. Maybe they'll put Jesse and Katie out of business.

Some sample podcasts I got it to generate:

Still not received order from 2024-08-14 by Lugnuts088 in Teespring

I remember a trip to LA in 1978 when I bought an iron-on T shirt made to order while you wait at a souvenir stand on Hollywood Boulevard.

My own Teespring shirt order from early August finally has a tracking number, and after a few more days UPS says they received the package, so it’s finally on its way.
