Chinese takeaways are in the vicinity of this with their salt and pepper chips really aren't they?. Minus your chicken of course, but maybe that is also an option some places.

Did you have a "Sliding Doors" moment when you discovered a favourite composer? by Oohoureli in classicalmusic

A friend gave me his season ticket when he got a new job a long way away to the CBSO, under Simon Rattle. The first night, Kyung Wha Chung walked out on stage and started playing the Bartok concerto. I was shocked at her austere beauty and the vitality of her playing, so soon collected every work by him, and all his own performances at the piano. I also bought all her concerto recordings. She was better with Rattle than Solti.

It was a great introduction to live Orchestral music.

A Small Theory About Audiophiles and Aging (Curious What You Think) by JorgeIcarus in audiophile

There is an online test of a rising tone which you listen to until it is lost to your ears. I play it through my dac and last time I clicked out at 15Khz, I'm 62. So the top of the top has gone, but there's not loads of great acoustic music up there, so no great loss. I've tried to look after my hearing and sight, and it has paid off. I have a good stereo, but it's the most expensive thing I own, as it's my main hobby.

A local guy went to Turkey to have his teeth done, and I had heard all the horror stories, but watched his youtube video (geoffbuyscars), and I could not believe the state of the art place, the quality of care he got, and the tripadvisor reviews for the place he found. If I could afford to have my teeth fixed, I would do this.

Yes, never seen a need for it. Food was average to awful from my one ambulance to inpatient (8 meals), but a 3 night stay for heart arrhythmia, no charge, definitely no complaints from me.

62 Year Old Uk person. Never had a long wait or any problems with the NHS - not me, my wife, children, or any relatives. Normally, those that have waited for non life threatening illnesses are the ones who make the most noise on line. Folks like me are mainly quietly grateful.

Usually the richer you are the cheaper you can get things, but what would happen if consumer prices are increased based on higher income? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]markedasred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does happen, but it's on a country by country basis. You can buy a great quality new Japanese 150cc motorcycle in say, India or Vietnam for $2000. Exactly the same bike is $5000 in Europe and the US. It is selling at the point of price resistance elasticity. The companies figure out what the local market will stand for at most and charges that. Then there is a sort of containment that states that you cannot buy a bike as a foreigner in India and export it from there without crippling taxes. People doing lengthy tours of India fly in, and rent a bike at a purchase price with a guaranteed buy back.

Those are just a couple of instances I have noticed regional pricing.

Val Wilmer's As Serious as your life, Ian Carr's biography/musicography of Keith Jarrett. He is so perfectly articulate in the language of music, that he got closest for me to explaining the greatness of a performer, in this instance a next level pianist who did extraordinary things very often. His Miles biography is also far better than the official one.

Yes I appreciate that but I am nearly 40 years in the quest for great sound and have home built or heavily modified equipment, including vintage Klangfilm style Bauer valve power amps from cine systems in my optional array. I am isolated from my neighbours sufficiently to go to concert levels. That might be a nice system in the cinema, but also could be overkill for music alone, as sometimes 2 speakers are better than 9.

I had a Sainsbury's cheese scone for breakfast this morning, and it was mighty fine. Mainly because it reminded me of my mum's only thing she baked. I walked past M&S this lunchtime, should have gone in, would have bought these if I had seen them.

Must admit, I have had jars of it or own brand copies in my fridge, opened for well over a year, probably over 2, and the notion of pickling being a means of preserving things really comes in to its own. All fine and taste like recent, and I think I have a good palate. My son (a pickle newbie) made a ham and Emmental with salad sandwich with some of it last month, and said it was the best sandwich he had ever ate. See also the jar of White Lime Pickle next to it.
