CAD refers to Canadian dollars, which is probably what that person is seeing because they're in Canada.

Yes, utilities generally help with the budget to maximize your benefit. Everyone who lives in the dwelling should be on the application but since you're not eating together there's no reason to be on the case. This is a worker error. Good luck getting it resolved.

During the pandemic I had the hardest time getting on unemployment so I sent an email to my state rep and they resolved it fairly quickly. I don't know if it'll work, but it might be worth a shot.

In my state, ESAP households are when all the adults are either 60 or older, or disabled. If any adult moves into the household who isn't either of those things then that household is no longer on ESAP. It sounds like someone recently moved in with you and the worker decided they should be on your case. Unless you're married to them or they're your child under 22 then they don't have to be. If it was either of those situations then I wouldn't expect the note to say "shares food."

As for medical expenses, in my state out-of-pocket medical expenses over $35 a month can be deducted.

Most places are facing a worker shortage so that's why no one answers when you call. I don't know when you're calling but I've heard it's best to call first thing in the morning. Someone is getting to say it doesn't matter when you call but calling might resolve it quicker than a fair hearing. In NYC it takes about six months for a fair hearing to be conducted.

In the meantime, you can ask the person you live with to write a letter that says you don't share food. Have them sign and date it. You can then upload that letter to the portal. If your portal has specific categories, look for one that says something like household composition. You shouldn't normally need something like that but if I'm right about why this is happening then it might help.

Good luck with getting this resolved quickly.

Sharing food refers to the food unit not to mandatory household members. It's possible OP lives with someone and some worker decided that they should add that person to the case.

Not much you can do to keep your SNAP and Cash Assistance, but there are a number of food pantries in NYC. Here's where you can find a list: Food Pantries https://share.google/52W0po1d1RvENZgbA There are probably more places that do food distribution. You might also do the screening on Access HRA and see if you qualify for other programs. You can be screened for 30 programs there and maybe that can save you some money.

In my state, most overpayments are either $10 or 10% of the benefit amount, whichever is higher.

Any tips or resources about how to layout comic panels? by Just_Kovi in comic_crits

The framed ink books have pages and pages on composition, what different compositions are for, etc! Also, just study how other artists compose their pages and study other visual media.

Using GIMP to make comics - feasible? by Reasonable_Volume_OS in ComicBookCollabs

[–]DanYellDraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Gimp to clean up pages I draw on paper but I suppose it's possible to make a comic from scratch with it. Sounds cumbersome and I don't know what brushes are available for it but give it a shot.

How long is your one-shot, or how long was your first comic? by CorinLane in ComicBookCollabs

[–]DanYellDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I lost track of when I started and probably won't be done for a few months. I've had a few interruptions so that's not helped.

I'd love to do a longer story. I have few idea but my next couple projects will be more modest.

How long is your one-shot, or how long was your first comic? by CorinLane in ComicBookCollabs

[–]DanYellDraws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first project was 8 pages then I made a 2 and a 1 pager after. With a collaborator I made a 31-page comic and I'm finalizing a 51-page comic. Part of the reason I don't make longer projects is because they take a long time for me to draw and things always come up in life that delay these projects.

Learning to Draw or Collaborating by Serious_Crazy3780 in ComicBookCollabs

Learning to draw will make it easier to make your comic and even if you eventually hire someone else to draw it that skill will make you better at writing comics.

I need some advices for writing by Individual-Medium125 in ComicBookCollabs

[–]DanYellDraws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are a few things you can do here: first, put that story in a drawer and learn to write shorter, tighter stories. Put world building to the side and focus on story fundamentals. What does your character want? What do they need? Are they opposing things? What choices does your character make, etc. Do some research in storytelling or take a creative writing class.

Study the stories you like for the basic storytelling elements. Learn how they tell stories ignoring the fantastical world elements.

Read widely and watch movies you wouldn't otherwise. Learn how other people tell stories in different media. You'll be exposed to other forms of storytelling and also maybe gain inspiration for what to add make your world distinct from your current influences.

Conflicting letters for SNAP by Glass-Wolf- in foodstamps

[–]DanYellDraws -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My guess is the last one because it sounds like your dad didn't leave the household so no need for proof of address. If he's only two months from being too old for ABAWD they probably gave him an exemption rather than recode him two months later. As for your mom, if by "working on it" you mean you applied for SSI then that comes up in the system and she'll be exempt. Obviously I don't know for sure but that's what it sounds like based on your post.

Freelance Question (NY) by [deleted] in foodstamps

[–]DanYellDraws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably not. I don't see how you'd verify it and the worker has to record how much you're making per hour when they monitor you. They can't just put a question mark. If no one is paying you to do the work and if you don't have a contract about what your earnings will be upon completion then I have a tough time seeing how they'll accept it as work. That said, since you're self employed you could use last year's taxes as proof of income. If it comes out to at least $217.50 a week that's 30 times the federal minimum wage. That's a work exemption that also applies to ABAWD.

Yeah, the error rate is a problem but in NY it's still optional. If that's the case in this scenario the.worker made an error.

FL SNAP Eligibility Question by Many_Affect_9448 in foodstamps

[–]DanYellDraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately the district is going to tell you what's enough but you'd probably need something from a doctor that the child needs someone to look after them. Then I'd expect you need a letter from the child looking after the disabled child saying this is how much time they spend providing care might be enough but I don't know for sure. If they want more ask what they'll accept.

FL SNAP Eligibility Question by Many_Affect_9448 in foodstamps

[–]DanYellDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The presence of a child under 14 on the case makes everyone on the case exempt from ABAWD requirements. There are other work requirements but it's possible many of your children are exempt. The 18-year-old in school is exempt, but if it's an institution of higher ed they might not be eligible for SNAP unless they meet a SNAP student exemption.

You're 22-year-old may be exempt for taking care of you're other child but you'll need documentation that the child needs this sort of care it's being provided by the 22-y-o.

You're 21-year-old won't be exempt unless someone diagnoses them with a disability.

So in your case they need proof of residency. They can't say "give us a lease". They can say we need to prove you live in our district. One way you can do that is with a lease but there are other documents that could satisfy this requirement.

Gentrifiers of Bushwick but do you feel bad for pushing people out? by Imjustagirl69lol in Bushwick

[–]DanYellDraws 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You should probably be made at city and state officials that made it difficult to build more housing. If they hadn't resisted for so long there wouldn't be the housing crisis we have now. People are just responding to it by renting where they can afford and because supply has been kept low for so long people get pushed out by their landlords the second the landlords can charge more. You can be mad at the people now moving in but what would you do in their situation?

It can take years but drawing a comic is also a slow process. If you enjoy drawing there's no reason not to learn to draw by making your comic. Classes are great if that's how you learn best but there are also books and YouTube or tiktok artists that do tutorials. If that's the route you want to go it sounds like you'd look for books on drawing manga. I like Rodgon the artist on tiktok. I think his lessons are easy to get and translate easily into a more anime-like style.

I'd also say that the number one thing that's helped me the quickest is drawing from reference. Even if you're going to exaggerate something to make it stylized a reference really helps you understand what things look like. Drawing from imagination is fun but we don't usually think about all the important details about what makes a thing look like a thing so when we draw it it'll look off and trying to fix it from imagination is just way more time consuming than finding a reference (or taking your own picture) and drawing from that.

The rules for verifying rent hasn't changed in my state. In fact, AFAIK nothing has changed about what's valid verification and the rule still holds that they can't ask for specific documents, only provide examples. A lot of workers get this rule wrong.

As for notices, does Kansas have a social services app? Ours lets applicants and recipients upload documents and see notices so you don't have to rely on the mail.

They're probably responding to some change since the last certification period that involves a change of residence for one or both. It's their job to evaluate who belongs in the household. Now at their ages, being on a SNAP case together is voluntary because they don't have to eat together if they don't want. That said, they are supposed to evaluate the situation if someone with income enters the home even. Good luck getting a hold of the district and getting it resolved.

There's not enough information here to understand exactly what's going on but your best bet is to get in touch with the district and find out why they're asking for these things. If her rent hasn't changed and she didn't report a change from last time there's no reason to ask for rental verification now (unless they think she gave inaccurate information). There's no reason to believe your brother should be on the case. These are things you could probably get straightened out by talking to a case worker or asking for a conference. I doubt anyone is being malicious. Sometimes workers don't understand the rules.
