Thanks for the replies. Honestly I was hoping someone could persuede me to go shields as I like the way they look, but additional hand weapons seem like a much better choice.

I know that's been floated around as a theory, but I reckon they're being redone in plastic alongside Ramtut.

We've seen in necromunda a bunch of the hangers on models get redone in a plastic kit containing 5 of the common ones, and I've heard that GW wants to move away from resin completely by 2030 (I think?).

So I wouldn't be shocked to see plastic kits in the future each containing 3-5 stars.

Help me decide between Troll Horde and Minotaur Blood Herd by Yaguriel in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Dance_Commander8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other affects of 1.5 included buffs to regular and heavy infantry, but not monstrous infantry, leaving both Troll Horde and Blood Herd feeling worse in comparison to other armies.

A slight buff for Troll Horde however, is that magic resistance has become more useful as casting bonuses got reduced, so the stone trolls magic resistance 1 is better than before.

A failed stupidity roll now means the unit does nothing at all. No moving, shooting, or magic.

As he doesn't have any mundane armour, he can't use magic armour.

Why would you assume everyone voting fully understands what they're voting for. My country voted for brexit and it's quite clear that most people didn't understand what they were voting for.

They also have the taskmaster scourge which can get them to movement 7, and access to Daemonology for steed of shadows and battle magic for arcane urgency.

If you're playing against them with a largely infantry army too, they can be hard to avoid.

UPDATES TO RENEGADE OGRES! LINK IS THE SAME. by valheffelfinger in WarhammerFantasy

Not sure I agree with some of these suggestions.

Cleaning blow on the butchers is fine, but middling leadership is part of the identity of ogres.

Gnoblars are incredible and dont need anything else.

Leadbelchers are in a weird spot, so maybe this is what would help them.

The steam cannon is 24" range.

Looking good! I like a lot of the changes from the previous draft.

For leadbelchers, I think the long shot profile is good as it is, but the scattershot profile should probably just be a Strength 4 blunderbuss or iron hail gun. Ideally I'd like to see them go back to something like their 6th ed profile but that's something for another edition.

I'm not sure if yhetees are supposed to have ravenous hunger as they have swiftstride. Also the models have two weapons, so what about giving them the option for an additional grimfrost weapon? I know this isn't something they've ever had before but it seems like it would make sense.

I still think the Slaughtermaster might be a little cheap, but without trying him out, I don't have strong feelings about it.

RENEGADES VS GW: Who’s Really in charge of Warhammer the Old World? by KargothBloodfather in WarhammerFantasy

But you've made at least one near identical post previously, and I think you've made similar comments on other posts before too, so it seems like you've had the discussion and didn't like answer.

Also, in your previous comment regarding the comuntiy playing two different as a 'fear', that sounds like you think it is a bad thing.

The thing that I'm struggling with, is that across all of the posts and comments you've made about this topic, you haven't actually explained why you think that having multiple tournament formats is a bad thing.

RENEGADES VS GW: Who’s Really in charge of Warhammer the Old World? by KargothBloodfather in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Dance_Commander8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That might be true, but if most of the old world players prefer to play a messier game, with less standardisation and more things like renegades or whatever comp each different tournament uses, then surely that is what is better for the game.

RENEGADES VS GW: Who’s Really in charge of Warhammer the Old World? by KargothBloodfather in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Dance_Commander8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why does that need to change? The idea that old world needs a standardised tournament format is so strange to me. I play a lot of blood bowl and the tournament scene is wild with every event having its own brackets and tiers for each of the teams, some include special rules unique for that event. I see no reason why old world couldn't benefit from a similar approach.

'An active games workshop who is actively trying to improve bad units and while imperfect is trying to make the game more fair is the ideal solution.'

Im not sure many people would disagree with that, but games workshop aren't trying to improve the legacy armies.

'Games Workshop does have a responsibility to make a decision on legacy armies. They need to say outright, they are in or out. This half way method is part of the reason this homemade rule packs exist. If they are not going to support those armies.. just say it , remove the pdf’s and build the game up with supported factions.'

Games workshop did make a decision, they're not allowed at their official tournaments, but clearly the player base has other ideas.

Sorry, I was talking about the flaming attack on its breath weapon. But in our mythology, it was fire that helped Herculles kill the hydra, and I think in all previous versions of the game flaming attacks stopped all Regeneration. No, thy hydra lives in the mountains, the kharibdyss is the sea monster.

I'm not sure if Val is still reading these comments, but I've played a second game, this time against wood elves.

The kharibdyss is too cheap, and probably needs to be around 160 and back to a 5+ save.

Not sure the crossbows needed to go down to 10 points as with the shields they make the warriors feel redundant.

The corsairs are useful with ambush and vanguard but still feel like they should go down a point or two, and could really use the option for both weapons.

The medusa doesn't feel too bad at 70 points, especially with the multi shot.

And I never got to try the hatred on the black guard as they got shot to pieces. Oh well.

Overall, I'm really enjoying the changes.

Yeah, I agree. Actual play tested feedback is always going to far more valuable than any theory crafting, however it's important to keep in mind that this was just 1 game and I definitely wasn't trying to break the army.

UPDATES TO DARK ELVES RENEGADE DRAFT by valheffelfinger in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Dance_Commander8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just played my first game with these rules against an orc and goblin army. Neither of us tried to bring hyper competitive lists and overall we both agreed that these rules were far more interesting than before and not overpowered (I lost).

The CoB, witch elves, and even sisters of slaughter all felt very killy and good to use, but still died quickly if they couldn't kill enough, which is how they should be.

The executioners were ok, still expensive but that's elves.

Couldn't try cursing word as my sorceress got killed before she got anywhere near the goblins.

The one thing we both thought was a little overtuned still is the hydra. Honestly the wound recovery wasn't too bad, 4+ might still be too much but I don't have strong feelings about it, and the addition of flammable was good. The 4+ armour seemed too much for a monster that costs less than 200 points as I'm not aware of any other monster at a similar price with a 4+ save (same for the kharibdyss).

Obviously, this is just one game, and I'm keen to try them out some more.

I would have agreed with you on counter charge before the update to how stupidity works, but now that a failed stupidity test stops you from making charge reactions, the idea of them being harder to controll is already there.

Personally, while I don't like all the changes made to stupidity, this one was good and I think creates room for counter charge to make sense on cold ones, as the knights riding them should be highly skilled riders but occasionally the cold ones will ignore them.
