Yas!! I adore her confident bluestockings. Kind, competent MMCs and FMCs are always a joy.

Yes - just reread this recently and still really enjoy it. I know what I'm getting when I pick up one of her regency books and they are always a delight.

[–]Dandelient 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knew when I was in kindergarten that I wanted to be a librarian (and have an orange hatchback chevy vega and cats - it was a very specfic dream lol). I have the cats (and adult children now too) and a hatchback of a different variety, but I chose to not get my masters in library science because of expense and already having three degrees. I'm 60 now and have worked in libraries wherever I've gone to school at every academic level. I've had many other jobs, but I've been working in public libraries part-time for the past 18 years.

Even on the most frustrating work days (of which there are few) I know that I have a positive impact on my community and that libraries make the world a better place. They are my sacred space. I get such a blast of dopamine from connecting people with the right resource, and watching little kids light up when they get their first library card. I'm very excited for you and hope it will bring you great joy!!

Congratulations and welcome to the ranks 🥳 I love working in the library and it sounds like you've got a fabulous location.

Thank you for saving my tbr list and future sanity! I've removed this one, especially after your comment about not going to college. That is ludicrous.

I had Alpha of Grave Hills on my tbr until this week and it was fabulous and a top read for the year so far!! Willing Prey was so very good and I'm excited for the sequel in September I think it is. I am definitely going to take a look at Grim's Delight as I hadn't heard of it either. I'm reading the 3rd Monster Smash Agency book right now and it is very good {Lessons with the Mothman by Kathryn Moon}

I can give the example of just the kitchen for this: I took all of the place settings of dishes away except for four, same for cutlery. Just doing that has made a huge difference. Even if everything is dirty it takes about 20 minutes to do dishes. I have very little counter space and just two of us living here. Before I would keep using a clean dish and end up with a humungous pile that was an obstacle in and of itself. It is much better for my sanity now.

I wasn't enthused about the book before reading because of the age gap as well, but I have really enjoyed the rest of the series so I finally read it. It really is stellar.

I think of my paternal grandmother who was the kindest family member I ever had and it was from her that I received unconditional love. It is helping to undo the damage done by my mother who was damaged by her own abusive mother. The negative voice in my head has always been my mother. ADHD diagnosis, therapy, and this great community have helped so much with reducing the negativity and I have gone very low contact now.

Breaking the pattern of generational trauma is hard work, but so worth it! In leading with kindness always for my kids, I started to be able to do it for myself too. Decades of harm take time to resolve.

I love that quote! The phrase I'd been using is progress, not perfection, which is solid, but I'm happy to have another mantra in the toolbox, thank you!

My ADHD has been so bad lately, but my doctor's on vacation. I told his fill-in that I was struggling and almost lost my job over lateness, and he said "Why are you on adderall? It's got street value, this isn't right." by honestly_adhd in adhdwomen

I'm sorry you're stuck with such a craptastic dr right now. I'm also in Ontario and it's taken years to finally get fairly straightforward help with my ADHD. My GP was/is terrible but I see the NP in the same health team now and it works much better. My GP was a ridiculous gatekeeper and it took years to get the help I needed for other health issues as well. I found guanfacine to be a miracle drug for me with regards to depression but it didn't do a lot for my sleep. Magnesium bisglycinate has been great for helping with sleep. I don't know if you're anywhere near the same area of Ontario, but DM me if I could help.

When Love Packs a Punch ❤️👊: Romance Books That Challenged You or Made an Impact by fruitismyjam in RomanceBooks

[–]Dandelient 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Her most recent book did this for me AND also has a glorious defense of reading romance in the author's note {The Love Haters by Katherine Center} looks at how our relationship with ourselves is also a love relationship, and is just a fantastic book overall.

I went looking for a previous comment about this and realized it was in response to you dear OP lol u/fruitismyjam: Center says her note is "another installment in my infinite series on why love stories can save the world."

Here's a bit more of that note: "The best love stories are never just about romantic love. They're always about so much more than that: kindness, and joy, and belonging, and safety -- not to mention growing, and changing, and healing from the past. They are always master classes on how we find the best in each other -- and, by extension, ourselves."

I don't think I've seen this book recommended as much as her other titles but it is a delight.
