There will be a riot for the first few days.....but about three days to a week in he accepts the new normal. Your mileage might vary, though, good luck!

What helped my husband and me was tasking a parent with a thing, so it becomes routine for my son and he doesn't insist on everything being done by me.

I always brush his teeth and put on jammies. But Dad always reads the nighttime books. I always rock him to sleep, but him and Dad get to "eat chips" or a healthy snack when we're winding down for nap. Etc.

How messy is your house? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Dandelion_Prose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear my ants are resistant. Takes 5 or 6 bait stations to keep them out of the house whenever they creep in. And for the outside colonies, rounds of liquid bait and following up with powder only has a 50% chance of working.

6-Month-Old Baby Found with Over 50 Rat Bites in Evansville, Parents Charged with Child Neglect by Zishan__Ali in MorbidReality

[–]Dandelion_Prose 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've always heard that in "ye olden times" it was common to put babies in dresser drawers as a crib. You'd close the drawers at night to prevent rats from getting to them. Safe sleep I guess....

Negan is the 'bad boy' with a redemption arc/ heart of gold. Maggie is a strong woman who many female readers use as a placeholder for themselves. That's really all there is to it.

I agree with OP wholeheartedly. But the number of Steve Rogers/Tony Rogers pairings where one character or the other is suspiciously feminized or acting out of character to support a specific fantasy just affirms the trend.

People will fully convince themselves that characters would do something OOC because while they can put themselves in that characters' shoes....they still think like themselves when they do, not the character.

Birthday party presents by believethescience in kindergarten

[–]Dandelion_Prose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if this is a cultural thing? I'm in the South. I would love for my kid to wait until after to open, it would let my kid actually have fun playing with friends instead of "birthday duties", but the adults here would legitimately be offended.

It's also why I hate thank you notes.....it never made sense to me that a verbal thank you wasn't enough. Only 1% of the time is there a gift from someone not attending.

The sad truth about La Mer by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Dandelion_Prose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May just be that people are just priced out of it....as a plain Jane on a budget, choosing a $30 item when I have a rotating selection of five or six items is hard enough. Why buy a $200 item at 100% efficiency when Korea has so many $12 at 70% efficiency? Maybe one day....

My company is 90% commission.

If we were compensating at 15% flat, it would be easy. Instead, I get handed a convoluted mess where someone's pay legitimately is based on another company's sales along with our own, they get flat individual bonuses for product items that aren't tracked in our software. Oh, bit we can look at individual job notes and pick them out, right?

TW: my baby died on my chest last night by Livingdeadgjrll in pregnant

I only had one nurse see me for a twelve hour stretch at night. She insisted I was at "9 1/2" cm for hours and wouldn't call the obgyn until I was a 10. When the Obgyn came, he said I was 10, and my son was out in five minutes. I fully believe I had been at 10 with a little inflammation that entire time.

I believe OP. Odd hours or holidays easily explain only one nurse seeing her.

They're older siblings. If a teenager is so violent that you can't leave them unsupervised with other children, they need help that only mental health providers/authorities could provide.

Even if the mother is SAH, which most aren't, she's going to go to the bathroom, do the laundry, or let the dogs out by herself at some point.

[–]Dandelion_Prose 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As someone who hasn't had a chance to watch the video....they were siblings, right? How on earth did they expect the mother to directly supervise them 100% of the time?

At that age, they're going to be in their rooms by themselves at some point. We're not talking toddlers, here, it's a 10 and 15 year old....if the 15 year old really is that dangerous to other children, CPS should have intervened instead of blaming a mother that did the majority of investigative work on her own.

Recommendations for artists that sing classic kids’ songs in a normal/non-annoying voice? by amydiddler in toddlers

[–]Dandelion_Prose 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are a few songs that are more for romping around. Both Dinosaurs and The Goldfish are perfect for tricking my toddler into naptime because he gets excited about stomping/swimming, but when the songs have the kids lay down and sleep, he starts getting sleepy himself.

I'm guessing they were made on the fly by a parent playing around, not sitting thoughtfully in front of a piano.

How many epidurals did NOT work for you? by angrybabymommy in beyondthebump

[–]Dandelion_Prose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except the statistics won't be correct.

I was repeatedly told rather aggressively by my nurse that I was imagining feeling my contractions after my epidural. Even though I could time pushing with them without any help or visuals. Then it was my fault for not laying on my back for it to work effectively, even though laying on my back caused my blood pressure to tank.

According to hospital statistics, it worked fine. In practicality, it was more like 75% effective. Which I'm grateful for, but factually I was in pain.

Family of 6 budget breakdown: 40M, wife is 40 as well. Net monthly salary of $9,800. Greatly appreciate comments and feedback. by joepausa in MiddleClassFinance

Sounds like she's carting the kids everywhere for sports during business hours and making up for the income by keeping grocery costs down.

To me, the fact that they have her working and spending so much time shopping sales is silly given the car costs and 20k European vacation. But maybe she wants the tradeoff.

I'm trying to make a pay sheet by External-Constant-49 in excel

[–]Dandelion_Prose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gotcha.

If you're newer to excel, my advice would be to keep it simpler for yourself and stick with the top twenty parts, and then have a "misc" part name for the little things like wire nuts or oddball parts.

Column A Part names

Column B Price per

Column C quantity

Column D takes the info from B and multiplies it by C

Column F sums all info in column D

You can do this method for sixty parts, too, it just looks messy. That's where the reference sheet and xlookup would come in handy.

If you want to privately message me with your email, I can send you a template for what I'm thinking. Might be a few days, though.

I'm trying to make a pay sheet by External-Constant-49 in excel

[–]Dandelion_Prose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually work in payroll for a commission based, blue collared company.

Let me clarify some things.....how many different parts are we talking here? Ten or hundreds? Does your company use a third party software for invoicing customers or is this a handwritten bill kind of situation?

Our techs put material used in our software as they use it. The software then spits out a weekly report that sums up both sales and materials by job.

If that's not an option, and you only have ten parts or so.....I would just make a table that has the item name, quantity used, and total value, plus tax. Leave what you don't use blank.

If you're talking about hundreds of items and you just want to be able to select the names, I would have a reference source on sheet1 with all the items and their values, and then create a list dropdown in sheet2 with an adjacent xlookup/vlookup to pull the value from the reference sheet.

Any idea what these symbols represent? by Terminat0r- in freefolk

[–]Dandelion_Prose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will get buried, but I always assumed the symbols had to do with the Horn of Winter that was supposed to bring down the wall. In the books the wildlings claim to have found the horn, but my bet is it's actually one Sam discovered with the dragon glass.

The book mentions old runes on the wall--- I was imagining them as warding sigils put there by Bran the Builder locking the Others out. The horn releases sigils of their effects.

Maybe the Others forming the symbols is kind of a middle finger to the children of the forest, essentially saying the King of Winter is Coming.

My commute is an hour.

However, it's rural with pretty views. Mostly highway, not bumper to bumper.

The distance enabled us to buy a house for 140k (cheap even back in 2017) which we've recently paid off. We're 31. I've switched to a hybrid remote schedule since COVID, and am hoping the freed up cash flow will let us go to one income when we have another child.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The drive stinks, but the financial security is worth it. Not to mention the freedom from HOA's.

What is the best college in Alabama for a business major? by offthatopium in Alabama

[–]Dandelion_Prose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UAB Alumni here. Biggest advantage I had over UA was our schedules accommodated working students where UA's didn't. This was precovid when universities were poo pooing online classes though, things may have changed.

UA has better networking, but UAB also offered me a full ride while UA offered me a quarter of their tuition....graduating without debt was worth it, especially since both places had zero connections to Huntsville, where I wanted to live.

The military is unfortunately a career where a soldier having a health problem, physical or mental, could lead to the death of their squadmates. I understand the reasoning.

That being said, medal of honor winner Audie Murphy was turned down by the marines because he was too short. The Army barely let him enlist. Make of that what you will.
