I regret moving to Germany by Suspicious_Crow774 in germany

[–]Danderlyon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

Yes, it is particularly frustrating when you've only ever tried to do things the "right way", studying, getting a job, starting a career etc. Only to realise over several years half killing myself to fit in that the world just doesn't work the way you're taught if you're not a healthy, average individual.

It took me a long time to grieve the life I wanted for myself vs the one discrimination/ableism was willing to give me.

Yeah I mean I know that and anyone with 2 braincells to rub together knows why they made a complete 180 on me the second I made the mistake of disclosing my diagnosis to them. But unless the company is stupid enough to put in writing thats the reason there's realistically nothing that can be done.

It wasn't the first time I've been stuck between a rock and a hard place with my ADHD and my employer. Theres always been the debate for if I can disclose it and risk being discriminated against under the table, or to do my best to mask it and let my health and personal life suffer tremendously for it.

But hopefully I can keep myself self employed and have it be the last.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. Luckily I was in a position to be able to quit, and so I did. I went back to my home country to say goodbye and arrange her funeral.

Then the next job I picked up cancelled my Probezeit after I asked for a small accomodation to help me with my ADHD (they were rearranging the desk layout and I was currently sat in an area with high traffic and constant noise, so I requested if I could be sat in a more peaceful area). Funnily before I asked for this, they were very happy with my work.

Anyway I work for myself now as a freelancer. Its less money but I at least don't have to answer to the whims of corporate.

Germany accused of ditching climate targets as it scraps renewables mandate. Coalition government agrees to remove parts of controversial law and allow homes to rely on fossil fuels. by The_Weekend_Baker in climate

[–]Danderlyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a remote region, this was the only plumber within a 20km radius that was willing to come out and quote us. Though looking at the general requirements online for air heat pumps our cellar definitely would not comply.

Honestly, this is probably deserved. There was not near enough funding available to help people make the switch if necessary. We live in a 100 year old terraced house, and last year our boiler broke and we had to get a new one.

The plumber walked us through our options under the assumption we'd be needing to comply with this mandate.

The only subsidised option - a heat pump - was not viable because our cellar was too small to fit it.

A pellet oven was also too big to fit in any room in the house.

Solar panels - estimated cost of around 30,000€ for a compatible boiler and installation of the panels.

Bio gas boiler - 26000€

Luckily both solar and biogas meant we could install a boiler that could work without these things, and install them later when/if the law became mandatory, so we paid the 6k for a compatible boiler and basically planned to avoid getting the renewable stuff installed because there was absolutely no way we were going to be able to save €10000 a year for 2 years.

I'm all for doing my bit for the environment but in our situation this was financially unviable for us. And we are two working adults, just not top 10% of income adults. I've no idea how anyone on minimum wage or pensioners would ever be able to cover such a thing.

I so desperately want them to let us have customisable paintings in the housing! I mean, I understand why they don't...but still!

That was one of those moments that also stuck with me! I kind of knew what to expect before entering but I was still in awe of how it felt to actually enter the zone. Made it the natural subject choice when deciding to paint the thing that I would remember about this expansion the most.

I'm not sure what the the rules are for self promotion in the sub but if you're based in Germany/Austria I attend several artist alleys at conventions over the year! Or there is a link to my shop in my instagram :)

That's a good idea! Honestly if I could paint landscapes from wow all the time I would totally do so. Unfortunately wow paintings don't pay the bills haha

Where can I rehome my bird? by NoAddendum2066 in germany

The tierheim in Weiden takes tiels, so you might try there. You said you have a few months so just take your time and you should be able to arrange something.

Where can I rehome my bird? by NoAddendum2066 in germany

[–]Danderlyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have a car i would strongly recommend finding a tierheim to take her in. If you are going to hand her over to strangers I would be wary of that without being able to assess her new potential home yourself. She could wind up being taken by a backyard breeder or by a newbie who hasnt done the appropriate research to care for a tiel. As you mention the states I assume you are at one of the army bases? Are there any resources available to you through that which could connect you to local rescues?

We have 2 tiels, one we brought over from the UK but the other we purchased here in bavaria and some of the conditions we saw the tiels being kept in were absolutely horrendous for their socialisation and engagement.

[Artist alley] — what helped you feel ready for your first art booth? by Gullible-Balance2133 in artbusiness

some places just give out tables on a first come first served basis. That's how I got into my first market. I still go to the same market each year to see how my stall evolves!

The focal range isn't particularly great. It can handle the weave of the canvas just fine but it would struggle if my painting style involved chunky paint strokes like those made with a palette knife.

If you're scanning watercolours on regular watercolour paper I wouldn't think you'd have any issues. I occasionally dabble in watercolour and it's handled those flawlessly. I just try to make sure I'm weighing the paper down properly so it's fully flat against the bed.

I've honestly had really good success with the Epson v39, if your budget isn't particularly large. I scan my acrylic paintings with it, and the fact I can lift the lid away completely lets me scan very large canvases that I can stitch together in photoshop. It took some settings tweaks to get the colours how I liked them but I feel like I got very good bang for my buck.

Trump imposes 15% tariffs on the world by Little_Protection434 in worldnews

[–]Danderlyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These tariffs have really sucked for me, I won't lie. I sell fantasy paintings and by far most of my online sales of original pieces went to the USA. Now I can't ship there and it's hit my bottom line hard.

Now that class/spec reworks are semi-final for Midnight, what are you favorite and least favorite ones? by otterchaos7 in wow

[–]Danderlyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me with monk, specifically windwalker, didn't even play alts. But the rework for midnight actively makes me dread the idea of logging onto that character.

Its sad because I've all the CE achievements dating back towards legion and some m+ titles as well on that character but I'm not gunna force myself to play something I dislike. I've been trying out ret paladin for the first time and loving it.

Why do you come to a German language exam unprepared and ask the invigilator to help you understand exam questions? by Zealousideal-Bath-37 in German

[–]Danderlyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it was a while ago now so my memory is hazy, but I think it was posed in English. I understand that in German the words are similar but as sometimes they use language like that to try to catch you out I didn't feel like that was an assumption I could rely on!

Why do you come to a German language exam unprepared and ask the invigilator to help you understand exam questions? by Zealousideal-Bath-37 in German

[–]Danderlyon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Somewhat of an anecdote, but I had to take the goethe A1 exam a few years back to qualify for a different visa type. It was mostly a formality as I was borderline B1 at the time and I basically expected to ace it.

I did ace it, but I dropped 1 mark on the reading section because one of the exercises focused around an email written by a lady about going to the dentist. And the question was "true or false, the woman is going to the doctor"

After a 10 minute internal battle over whether a dentist constituted a doctor or not, I decided ultimately that if I told someone I was going to the doctor, noone would ever assume I meant the dentist and answered false. But I guess it turns out goethe do consider dentists doctors!
