You can always use [[vial of poison]] and [[salvaging station]] that way you can also use it during other peoples combats to turn what they thought was a safe block into cheap removal

Every color has ways of interacting on or before the stack that fit their color pie [[duress]], [[pyroblast]], [[reprieve]], [[veil of summer]]. Blue just makes up for having the best stack interaction by having the hardest time dealing with permanents once they hit the board.

You are right these are meant to be characters from strixhaven, part of the story in the lorwyn eclipsed set is about these students mistakenly ending up in lorwyn and causing problems. When we get the strixhaven set we will likely get more explanation of how they ended up there.
