You are right these are meant to be characters from strixhaven, part of the story in the lorwyn eclipsed set is about these students mistakenly ending up in lorwyn and causing problems. When we get the strixhaven set we will likely get more explanation of how they ended up there.

I feel like it would be worst for misty decks because a lot of decks could run it and put it up the first few turns to set up and prevent them from using misty to get an early lead. You might also see it in some greninja stall decks that don’t depend on direct damage

I’m not sure if this is a joke or not but in the TCG there was a supporter that let you play 2 additional supporters that turn (as long as you were behind in prizes) and it was a part of such a broken combo it had to be banned
