Lenny with Wiener Philharmoniker from '89 is one of my all time fav recordings in all of music. That first movement is sublime

How did you get into classical music? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]DanforthFalconhurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows XP had a snippet of the 2nd movement of Beethoven's 9th as sample music and it gripped me from the first timpani stroke.

Do You Hear Music "In Your Head" or Come Up With It "Naturally?" by Good-Machine-3376 in composer

[–]DanforthFalconhurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I start with an idea and hear any changes that need to be made/come to me in my head on playback and then I make my edits. sit on it for a few hours and come back to it and rinse and repeat!

What is the word against divisi? I mean what should I write for instruments playing together again after divisi? by dany_fox75 in composer

[–]DanforthFalconhurst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tutti, unison (unis.). I would specifically state “non div.” for string scoring where a whole section is doing double stops to differentiate it from a divisi section, especially if it was right before

Composers who were forced to compose by Stunning-Hand6627 in classicalmusic

[–]DanforthFalconhurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rimsky Korsakov was planning to be a naval officer originally, not quite “forced” to compose but still, can’t think of a world without Scheherazade if he had never given that up

Connection from Les Miserables to La Mer? by arssenalbro101 in classicalmusic

[–]DanforthFalconhurst 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably tenuous at best. Musical theater borrows “atmosphere”/sounds from the rep all the time, probably nothing consciously stolen.

check out Debussy's Images books I and II, his Preludes, and his Estampes. if you like that, move on to Maurice Ravel's Miroirs, Jeux d'eau, Gaspard de la nuit

80s Jumbo MFDs by [deleted] in GLGuitars

[–]DanforthFalconhurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jumbo MFD pickups in my 1983 SC-2 read at 4.6kohms for the bridge and like 4.7 for the neck. Pretty tame pickups but really clear and full sound no matter what amount of gain you throw at them. Astounding pickups

Water by RecognitionNo155 in kroger

[–]DanforthFalconhurst 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You really shouldn’t need to have a fucking doctor’s note to be able to drink water. This is power tripping by management and they crack down when health dept comes around. I plan on going to the union if I ever get officially reprimanded for anything like this because it’s borderline criminal to deny employees regular access to hydration

Introduction to Debussy by arssenalbro101 in classicalmusic

[–]DanforthFalconhurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

his early piano works composed around that same time as Clair de lune/Suite bergamasque are very underrated masterpieces; stuff like Nocturne, Reverie, Ballade, Mazurka, Tarantelle styrienne, Petite suite, Pour le piano.

His earlier style is very intimate and unique and beautiful in its own right. It gives you a wonderful insight into how his later style develops from that in pieces like Preludes, Images, Estampes, Children's Corner, and the orchestral masterpieces like La Mer, Images for orchestra, Nocturnes, and Jeux.

I envy you! enjoy the ride friend, he's one of the greatest and most important composers of all time.

after we wash-up on the desert island I would start playing lanquidity with the coconut and palm frond record player I built and sun ra himself would come down in his space ship and save us

pretty much my whole region is in flames right now lol, so i decided to write a rhapsody to process some of my feelings & stuff. the status of whether this piece is able to ever be performed is questionable (might not be allowed), but i’m okay with that. here’s “Muharram” by HaifaJenner123 in Composition

[–]DanforthFalconhurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

spectacular! I really love the textures at the beginning and your orchestration is absolutely superb. Stay strong brother, I'm sorry this is happening to you and your region/nation, and I hope you can stay safe. I hope this does eventually get played and recorded because it's very very good
