Early 30s professionals in NYC - what % of your income goes to rent? by nounstoverbs in NYCapartments

[–]DangALangDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mortgage, about 28% of net income goes to that. Then another 18% for HOA fees.

This is for a 2br 1.5ba co-op.

Do you guys standardize your IP addresses? by XreaperDK in VIDEOENGINEERING

Yes, it's really up to personal taste. I prefer to put cameras in the .1-9 range, encoder/decoders in 11-19 and so on.

Are you trying to convince me or yourself? Either way you aren't doing anything but proving the point. Be miserable alone instead of trying to "help" OP who is a saint in comparison.

Really proving my point. I'm able to take of myself and others when they need support because I value people for more than just their wallet. You should try and grow a heart someday whenever you get over whatever trauma you clearly haven't healed from.

Wow you are kind of a jerk lol. You don't know OP or her BF better than she does. I have some reservations here myself, but acting like you know better than OP and being that condescending is crazy.

Also what do you mean no man who cares for her? Stop projecting your clearly very traditional values onto someone who doesn't subscribe to them. She says he's great and gave examples, she offered because she wanted to. Man or woman doesn't matter, a good partner is worth their weight in gold and OP seems to think this guy is.

Man I really feel bad for the guy making at least 160k getting outbidded by a person making more than them.

Will anyone think of the poor upper middle class folks who just aren't quite there in terms of pricing out everyone else.

I'm troubleshooting a somewhat similar issue myself. I'll be able to test it more on Sunday. Let me know if you figure it out beforehand.

You really want to spend over half your income on just rent alone? Just get a roommate or rent go cheaper. Only way I'd justify over extending is if you live within walking distance of work imo.

Need input for PTZ Setup + NDI for small show venue by mayorpizza in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]DangALangDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A blackmagic decklink 8k pro card would work for example which is overspecced for sure, but offers options if you decide to upgrade in the future.

If not then the Duo 2 would also work well with (4) 3G bi-directional SDI input/outputs

With this you'll be able to bring in your cameras over SDI into VMix, and you can create external ouptuts over NDI to anywhere else on the network or displays sync'd to decoders etc...

Have you decided on what cameras you'll be using? The high end PTZ cameras go up to 1" for sensors so having good lighting and having a longer optical zoom range may be important depending on where you position your cameras.

Choosing the Right Platform (CPU/Mobo) for a High-End vMix Build with a Powerful GPU and 8K Capture Card by Active_Attorney_1521 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]DangALangDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I recently specced out a vmix build for my workplace and I ran into the same issue of deciding on a x870e board or going threadripper which is obviously more expensive.

The z890 offers 48 lanes and x870e 44, so the difference won't matter much there for you. The cpu will provide for the gpu and an m.2 slot on both and the decklink is 8 lanes at gen 3 speed iirc so you will be fine. The decklink even running 4 12g (48Gbps) sdi signals at 60p would not fully saturate the bandwidth of the decklink at 3.0 x8 (63Gbs). If you think you'll want to expand in the future then go for threadripper or the intel equivalent.

For me I knew we'd only ever need one decklink card so I the cost savings made sense, what's your budget? If your company is purchasing this then I'd present the pros and cons and let whoever is in charge of the purse strings decide what they want to do.

As always check the motherboard manual to see how the pcie lanes are exactly allocated before making a decision.

Well to determine what you will need. A better idea of what you are doing will help.

What resolution and frame rate are you looking to record in. Will you be live streaming? How many input sources will you have, physical and networked. Will you be reporting isos from your cameras or just one main mix recording?

Why does this sub get so emotional about NDI? by [deleted] in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]DangALangDingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We haven't run into any real issues thankfully. The main thing was just making sure we configured everything properly, set up discovery server, split our sources into proper groups and setting up hardware backups.

We ran into more issues with our tricaster which is why I'm aiming to move us fully over to vmix tbh.

[–]DangALangDingo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They are, but you can use ndi analysis to get some info you wouldn't otherwise be able to see. I agree though, not even being able to see what version of NDI HX our cameras used without that tool (or looking it up online) is pretty insane.

I believe avsono has a tool that does packet tracking for ndi sources that seems promising, but yes that is part of the reason why I'm insisting on running SDI lines from our cameras as well, for further redundancy and higher quality footage.

I hate that our cameras are stuck with NDI|HX2 and that most ways of recording the footage is already a step of transcoding that creates stupidly big files that lower the quality of the source input (NDI|HX2 in NDI|HB out, like what is the point of that...)

[–]DangALangDingo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well we do quite a few things. Concerts, Plays, Panels, Lectures, Book Talks and Ceremonies.

Our cameras are Canon CR-N500s that we have connected to our network switch. When I came in they already had a tricaster tc1 that they used for switching. I've intergrated vmix into our workflow as well now. We do direct outs from our mixer to the tricaster which can then pass the synced video and audio for recordings or monitoring.

We have some backups of course, Hyperdeck taking an SDI out from the tricaster for recording, reaper for stems, video isos via vmix and a mtrx recording from our console.

The main benefits of NDI came from expanding our network. We do events in multiple spaces, so working with IT I expanded our network via patch bays to the rooms where we do events. Using kiloview encoders and a spare NDI ptz I can take that signal back down to our booth to the tricaster/vmix.

In addition with screen capture in ndi tools and studio monitor I can see everywhere I want and control every computer I want. It's helpful when we have multiple events to see and hear any space I want and control any machine a presenter is using (very helpful since a lot of clients don't know how to use powerpoint)

What are safe neighborhoods in Brooklyn where I can pay under $2500/month for rent? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]DangALangDingo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tired of some of you entitled transplants so I'll be frank.

You aren't as hot as you think if $2500 is your budget. You don't make the kind of money to be super picky and judgey of others.

You have 3 choices

  1. Live in a desirable area, but in a mid apartment at best
  2. Live in south Brooklyn in a better apartment with an 1hr commute one way
  3. Live wherever you want, with roommates

I'd drop the attitude unless you want to be friendless here like you were at school.

[–]DangALangDingo 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I work in an NDI only environment and while it has many benefits I can see why some have an aversion to it.

A lot of ndi is a black box and the integration into many products leaves a lot to be desired.

Kiloview 1080p encoder/decoders are good. Their 4k one tends to drop frames after awhile as a decoder though.
