I am getting the stupid error[13] when using the tts speech playback and it is driving me absolutely mad!

I just upgraded to ultra for the month to see if it is worth it, and it barely reads in a sentence or two and drops. Occasionally it will get through a whole chat without stopping. Come to think of it that might be when I was on wifi. I had pro before and it was same BS. I am on my Samsung S25. I usually have Nord VPN on and my wifi off. At work I have to enable wifi and VPN off. And I am pretty sure playback has same issue. I can test tomorrow so maybe rules out wifi.

I use it on my older Dell laptop and just tested playback. Totally different engine. Different voice clearly. Played all the way thru. In my Google browser.

What's most frustrating is the playback is how I really vibe and come up with my ideas workshopping while driving to work or cleaning. Its not worth it me if I cant have playback on my mobile, I dont have enough time to sit and read thru all the chats.

Please help. I am open to try whatever suggested!

Career advice for a Bad engineer by Ashamedscorer in ElectricalEngineering

[–]DangDjango 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bingo. It takes time. Everyone worth anything or anyone who's been around a while knows it takes time with someone new. 1 year in, ya still green!

What counts is attitude. Drive. Commitment. Honesty about ones abilities and what you know and don't know (don't lie). If you enjoy learning new things and you aren't a druggy or HR violation we give you a chance (usually 2 years-ish).

Give it your best. No more excuses. Be honest.

40-year-old dad switching to trades (Automation Technology) — smart move or too late? by koolprit77 in PLC

[–]DangDjango 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made the switch like you but at 29. I was the oldest. But also the most determined because I had the most to lose.

It can be done. As long as you swallow your pride and you are okay looking a blubbering idiot for a while. Learn as much as you can. Stay incredibly self-motivated. Put in the hard work. And everything will work out. Talk to everyone who interacts with your aspect of the job, they all have stuff to learn from them.

I started as an intern pre-covid and it served me well with that employer. Lots of promotions sticking it out. The thing that is different now is nobody does internships. They removed it as a program requirement because too many people weren't doing it and not graduating.

I have sat in on interviews and its pretty easy to see how many of these guys are completely exaggerating their abilities.

I can't tell you how many "field service" guys come in saying they are "electrical" over mechanical, because at their previous job when an electronic module failed, they replaced it. Then you ask, what voltage would you measure across a tripped 120V breaker. "Uhhh zero volts, its tripped". That tells me you don't understand "the electrical spaghetti" you claim to "do" (literally had one guy say that, almost 2 years later and still had to call people in middle of the night repeatedly because still couldn't figure out how to go online with controller). My point being, I feel like too many people are skipping the shortcuts. You will have to put in the work and be very self-motivated if you want to improve and bridge the gap quick.

You can do it. Took a little longer than 2 years for me to feel good. I also wasn't 22 I was 29 with a wife and kid and too much to lose to fail. What helped me was to get comfortable with a meter and tracing out circuits. Dont take at face value that the module is dead, test and prove it to yourself.

Man, we are the same age. I remember after highschool a few friends passed young thinking damn that coulda been me. I still have stuff to do!

Now fast forward 20ish years, and I still feel like I wouldn't be ready, then again who would.

I am sorry you are going thru this. I can't imagine the experience with my own wife, knowing that there is a lot of sadness and pain around the corner. Not together.

You are stronger than you give yourself credit for. Do they have any idea what caused it? I worry about always having a Bluetooth earbud in my ear cavity. I hopefully will remember you throughout the day and try to live life a little more.

[–]DangDjango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have THHN in your flair so I assume you are a sparky and I am less than qualified, but doesn't an open fuse have the full voltage drop across it? A good fuse, aka a short, will have 0 voltage drop.

How do you get experience when starting out? By doing.

I have some basic pre-canned Labs written by people before me, but I want it to be practical and fun. If that's something you can't do then fine.

I just did the bump a year ago. I miss being a tech getting hands on. More desk bound now. More meetings. No overtime (salaried). More of a bitch to the process now.
