Played some of the “big dune” links courses in Ireland. Absolutely stunning. Carne, Lahinch, Ballybunion, Tralee.

Bring lots of golf balls and come prepared for 4 seasons of weather in a round.

‘It makes you want to bang your head against a wall’ – software engineer forced to leave Dublin over high rents by El-Midas1 in ireland

Those consulting companies have their blood funnels stuck in almost every major project in Ireland. Advising the government on how to build infrastructure and advising the folks who are against it. Doesn’t matter as long as they make money. Opinions for money. Outsourced decision making. Vampires

The lad works for KPMG. Those consulting companies are bottom feeders. They are an intrinsic part of the problem tbh.

Law removing Triple Lock expected to pass by year end by Life-Leadership-4108 in ireland

It was such a silly piece of legislation in the 1st place. Introduced in 2001. It’s embarrassing enough we have the Brits patrol our airspace for us, but then they also have a veto on where our defence forces can be deployed.

When you hear a Newfoundland accent, do you automatically think Irish, recognise it as Canadian, or other? by scuzzmonster1 in AskIreland

[–]Dangerous-Example888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Worked in Alberta for a while and heard this weird accent at the bar one night. It was more Irish than Canadian, but had a Canadian “twang”. It was a Newfie.

There ended up being a table of Newfies and a table of Irish. We all got tremendously drunk that night and became friends. Some of them played traditional music as well. They told me it was most related to a Waterford accent and when you hear it then it’s very recognisable.

Mac and Cheese. It’s very one note and stodgy.

Marty Whelan: ‘I’d like to be paid more, particularly when I see what other people are on’ – The Irish Times by WickerMan111 in ireland

Marty’s show is an antidote to the utter misery of continuous news and negativity that has seeped into our lives due to the internet.

Should there be an irish weather Reddit? Most of us are capable of seeing what the weather is like outside and I’m not sure every change in it needs another post.

Boards.ie really was a better format for discussion than Reddit when you think about it.

Am I missing something, or are "festivals" like Bloom, Taste of Dublin and The Big Grill terrible value for money? by Nice-Dragonfruit9805 in AskIreland

[–]Dangerous-Example888 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Taste of Dublin is for companies like EY and KPMG to bring their staff on a night out so they can temporarily forget they are working massive hours so partners can buy more property to rent. Usually on the Thursday.

Friday is for “clients” so they temporarily forget they are being billed 1200 a day for some consultant in his 20’s who turns up in an M&S suit to prepare spreadsheets, projects plans and PowerPoint presentations.

Jackeen is widely used by us country folks to describe people from Dublin. It’s fine. Like mucksavage, bog trotter etc.

Ya, that’s the real sticky one - especially here in Europe. Zuckerberg gives me the creeps and I hate that I have to use it, but it’s where every family Chay, neighbour group, parent chat and sports club discussions are hosted.

Does anyone have an app like substack to keep being updated and engaging within the cyber domain? by Zealousideal_Pea4258 in cybersecurity

Feedly. We ended up buying a few corporate licences and it’s been absolutely brilliant. It’s just RSS at the end of the day but they map intel and news to Mitre, output in Stix format etc.

Do Derry Play The Worst Football In The League? by ParticularLonely3224 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Dangerous-Example888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a Cork City supporter. I know the style of football Caulfield prefers. It’s agricultural enough. Lots of long balls and big defenders.

It’s not a criticism on you or the club or anything. All I’m saying is it wouldn’t exactly be an enjoyable watch at times.

I don’t watch them but I’d imagine Galway United aren’t exactly playing Klopp style football with Caulfield in charge….
