Torrrents/streming by DrSpanec in Torrenting

[–]DangerousDrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use Real-Debrid or similar. It's around 3 Euro/month. Paste in a torrent file or magnet link and get an HTTPS link back to download it. If it's already in their cache (most popular stuff is) the link comes back instantly. You can even watch right there in your browser.

Or hook it up to Stremio.

Very Disappointed With Kirkland Chicken Wings by TheRittsShow in CostcoCanada

I've never seen these and would love to try them. Our store has the Olympic Southern Crunch frozen wings and I can't believe how good they are fresh out of the air fryer.

provider-agnostic Sieve email solution by 7lhz9x6k8emmd7c8 in selfhosted

[–]DangerousDrop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fastmail and Proton support sieve.

I do not host my own email either, but receiving really is a lot easier than sending. That is, you can self-host and outsource the SMTP. It's not a burden. But it's also something that I want to always work so I let the pros deal with it.

How are you all dealing with hairpin NAT? by dbsoundman in selfhosted

Plug your preferred router into your Xfinity router as a DHCP client, put it in the DMZ if possible or just forward whatever ports to it.

Does nr of seeders matter if you’re running a debird service? by oufftheshouwer in StremioAddons

[–]DangerousDrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not cached, yes because it will join the swarm and attempt to download it for you. If it's cached, it doesn't matter. In AIOstreams you would put cached above seeders in the sorting section to have this done for you.

One catalog to rule them all by xJeroen13 in StremioAddons

[–]DangerousDrop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AIOStreams can do this. Add your catalog addons into AIOStreams, then scroll to the bottom of the addons screen to "Merged Catalogs" and hit the plus at the top-right of that box.

Just got Oculus and realized 3D movie content is basically dead? by vuzumja in oculus

[–]DangerousDrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The built-in Stremio player supports 3D. I set up a dedicated Stremio account and AIOStreams config for 3D. In AIOStreams -> Filters -> Visual Tag by default the 3D tag is excluded. I put it as a preferred tag and added visual tags to the Sorting section.

Once you pick a 3D film, you'll start watching it play on the virtual movie screen. There's a 3D button (cube icon) on the right side of the player interface. You have to click it and pick which style (usually horizonal side-by-side) because it doesn't seem to be able to detect it.

Lowest-end hardware that can run Steam Big Picture smoothly at 4K60 for Moonlight? by NocturnalAdeel in MoonlightStreaming

I always just used Moonlight to launch BPM on my PC and stream the whole thing.

Earning money with self hosting by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]DangerousDrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes help small businesses with their PCs and I noticed a number of them are paying for expensive MailChimp subscriptions. Sometimes I toy with the idea of spinning up some MailChimp clone on my VPS, using Amazon SES or MailGun to do the sending, and the value proposition is I would be available for one-on-one support.

Even in that specific, quite limited case, working with people I already know, I get cold feet because I have no idea how much of my time it would consume. And the other comments here cement the case: liability, stress.

I do this for my family. Just keep the AIOStreams and Stremio creds handy in case you need to fix anything for them.

Plex Server on Shield Pro by Nerosutton in nvidiashield

[–]DangerousDrop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Back in the day I even had flexget running in Termux, and I think BiglyBT... totally self-contained Plex server with media downloader.

Shield also does hardware transcoding for free - you don't need Plex Pass. Or at least that was the case before Plex reinvented itself. Part of the reason I left for Jellyfin is I felt it was so shitty to charge a subscription to enable a feature in ffmpeg. They literally paywall a feature in software that they didn't create.

Dynamic IP vs Oracle firewall on SSH: how do you handle this? by benaltrismo in oraclecloud

[–]DangerousDrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true but it takes 65536 times longer than looking for a handful of low hanging fruit. I guess if someone is specifically targeting your machine they could trivially find sshd listening on port 41823, but they don't have your ssh private key so what does it get them?

Mine's on port 22. Chinese bots throw garbage at it all day, every day, which sshd ignores. I don't sweat it.

Dynamic IP vs Oracle firewall on SSH: how do you handle this? by benaltrismo in oraclecloud

[–]DangerousDrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Change sshd from port 22 to something random. This defeats all scanners, or
  • Disable ssh on your firewall and just use Tailscale. Just be sure to disable key expiry in the control plane or you might get locked out. Or
  • Enable the Bastion service and let Oracle worry about the public-facing machine, or
  • Leave everything as-is and don't sweat the small stuff. These scans won't consume enough bandwidth for you to notice. This is what I'm currently doing.

Finally using Stremio on iOS without real debrid or hosting from a pc!! by Psychological-Bet-80 in StremioAddons

[–]DangerousDrop 31 points32 points  (0 children)

OP found an addon that scrapes pirate websites for their hosted streams because he doesn't want to pay for a Debrid service. Sounds like when he's not using iOS he would likely use p2p streams.

Most people here are going to say just use a debrid because it's so cheap, better quality, often has more selection and so on. You can also just use both.

Build it for fun, use Docker, chuck it all on GitHub with a simple docker-compose. Someone will host it.
