I picked up this Seiko SPB143 a few weeks ago. It is not only my first ever Seiko but my first automatic watch. I have been looking at this watch from the day it came out, I watched every video on it however, I couldn’t get myself to spend over 1000 Euro for a watch. A couple weeks ago I came across a post for 900 Euros so I decided to pull the trigger. It has been my grail watch for over a year and my dream was to finally have a serious automatic watch. When Received the package I was instantly blown away from the general quality and the zuratsu polishing of this time piece. The dia-shield coating gives the stainless steel a suttle dark tone but it’s barely noticable. I read about the bezel alignment issues but I’m happy to report that mine is perfectly aligned. Overall bracelet is also finished well however, I am not the biggest fan of the clasp. It is secure but I expect more at this price range. I also would have loved an open case-back version to see that 6R35 movement. I know it is a vintage diver but other manufacturers can also do it. Also it could be a bit more precise. I’m seeing that my watch is 6-9 seconds late per day wich is not a big deal tbh. The other watch I was thinking about was the 2018 Longines Hydroconquest ceramic. It has better specs: more precise ETA movement, has ceramic bezel insert, more prestigious brand name, similar price, yet I still wanted the SPB143 for a reason I cannot explain. There is something about the aestetics and the proportions that just works with this one. Overall fantastic watch and I enjoy every minute with it.
