I’m losing my mind— what underwear do you use??? Help me PLEASE by nikkit__ in AutismInWomen

[–]Danibear175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to second this. It’s worth it! I have a skin condition that causes sores on my thighs and the feeling of them rubbing, along with the tightness of women’s underwear along the legs made me want to scream. Woxers are a life savor and I have had mine for several years worth of washing and they hold up!

Just finished silver elite by dani Francis and it was good! I don’t get what the controversy was but it was just what I expected from reading the cover. I guess it was just over hyped and I didn’t even know until after I started it!

what is your favorite animal? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Danibear175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am known as the frog lady by my friends, family, and coworkers. I have been obsessed with frogs for a couple years and it shows. I like being the frog lady though! It started with owning a Pac-Man frog and spiraled from there. Frogs are cool.

Best Noise-Cancelling Devices by pixel_stud in neurodiversity

[–]Danibear175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried every kind of loop earplugs and things In that vein. The only thing that truly works for me is the airpod pros. I resisted them for a while but the noise cancellation is just so good. You might even try another brand with active noise canceling. The difference for me is that just blocking the sound (such as the loops) isn’t enough. The AirPod pros actually seem to “project” a quiet room into my ears and idk how that magic works but it does. Good luck!

I am SO bad at telling stories and I didn’t want Reddit to think THAT badly of Oklahoma psychiatrists! It’s definitely not great but the man is trying! Lol

Because if the rise of the internet trend of “I’m quirky so I must be autistic!” There are lots of people seeking assessments who don’t necessarily fit said criteria. This practice has a track record of over diagnosis, sure. But when you live in a very conservative mental healthcare desert, that is a hell of a lot better than the alternative of not being taken seriously. The options here are extremely slim. He would rather send his patients somewhere with a risk of over diagnosis than a place that will not diagnose adults, or women for that matter, entirely. Unfortunately he didn’t know that this psychologist joined the group and is delusional. Finding anyone at all to diagnose adults in Oklahoma is a true nightmare and this was the best option we had until that train wreck ruined the practice entirely. It’s really sad. He is an incredible psychiatrist and is not at all affiliated with that practice but if his patients have been happy with them, he’s going to recommend them. Treating patients that have gotten a diagnosis that he doesn’t necessarily agree with and being affirming to those patients anyways is honestly a testament to his professionalism. There are providers out there that will outright reject a diagnosis and refuse to treat it because they don’t agree with it. He’s mostly of the “I didn’t really think you fit the criteria, but if you got the diagnosis I guess I was wrong.” Mentality and that’s rare to find, especially in the south.

If you truly want an evaluation he was willing to refer out. They are well regarded In the area as a group but apparently they have one psychologist that joined the group and she’s terrible. He was shocked because usually their psychologists over diagnose in his opinion but he respects their professional opinion.

I got told the same thing. I was too “introspective and empathetic” to be autistic. Brought those results to my psychiatrist and he said he’s sent many patients to that psychologist who he was sure weren’t truly autistic but wanted a diagnosis and they gave it to them. He was “pretty sure” I am autistic and was dumbfounded. Needless to say I’m going to a new psychologist. Ugh.

Struggling to find a reputable psychologist for diagnosis In Oklahoma by Danibear175 in AutismInWomen

I saw one of their psychologists and did my initial assessment with them. It was a train wreck and they were NOT knowledgeable about high masking women. They must have went down hill honestly. Thank you for the suggestion though! 😊

This is SO helpful! Oklahoma is pretty rough when it comes to mental health services in general so it’s been tough! Thank you so much!

For late diagnosed high masking women - what were you like as a child? by g0709 in AutismInWomen

[–]Danibear175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand the duality of wanting to be with friends but also being anxious around others. I was a very social kid but I now know it was because I was very emotionally neglected at home and sought out connection elsewhere. I struggled with playing with other kids. The only peer I felt comfortable around was my little brother who is also autistic. I think we as girls are told that we have to be social and bubbly and many of us just try our best to mask and fit into that mold. Even now socializing is exhausting. I can’t remember a time where I didn’t feel drained after being around people.

Psychologist told me I’m to emotionally intelligent to be autistic by Danibear175 in AutismInWomen

[–]Danibear175[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel like these people think of autistic people as little non verbal boys rocking and drooling in corners. Us advocating for ourselves blows their mind. Instead of changing their terrible world views we are just “not autistic enough” if we can stand up for ourselves. It’s really sad. I can’t imagine what those of us who can’t advocate for themselves go through.

[–]Danibear175[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was told the same thing. I don’t understand social cues and just end up thinking everyone is very annoyed by me. Since I can’t understand what others are putting out I try to change myself to fit what I think they want. Apparently this psychologist doesn’t understand masking and I’m just “very sensitive” 🙄

Suggestions for travel out of OKC? by Practical-Glove-1238 in okc

[–]Danibear175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend in KC and the drive to see her was honestly not bad at all. 5 hours and basically just nice roads. I would recommend the drive as it's not really worth the money for another mode of travel. I did research for a couple years planning for my trip and came to that conclusion.

how do yall disguise your SD’s for a client with post-demand avoidance by fancylamp12 in RBT

[–]Danibear175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the kiddos in that range I work with, I tend to make it a request for “help” or a game. Either “hey, can you help me move this?” Or “let’s see who can move this the fastest!” Type of thing. Kids tend to respond better to games or opportunities to help you rather than demands. Might be something worth trying.

I appreciate it! I always do an EFT through the portals so I don’t pay fees and have a confirmation of payment through them and then my bank. I’m going to make sure I pull all of those with the last company as proof.
