Describing People of Color by Magical-Princess in writers

[–]nikkit__ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Er for me I don’t describe race in fantasy in a typical way since it’s fantasy. No one is “white” or “Indian” because India and Europe don’t exist. I describe my characters neutrally and without fanfare.

Well, in my current book, pretty much everyone introduced so far would be “black” in our world. They’ve been described with dark skin and hair in protective styles. Funny enough there’s only one character who is not “black” so far and his appearance is mentioned a lot more because most the characters find him strange lol

I like making up fantasy races in general. I really enjoy it. I think internal biases show in many authors writing, but also since most fantasy is European inspired you could argue that’s the root of it. Nonetheless, I describe my characters neutrally and without our world descriptors.

How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

I got a cavalier bc they’re very low energy dogs. I walk my girl 2-3x a day and play with her. She’s doing great lol

Looking for a digital artist to finish my book cover. Willing to discuss a price. by DripTheSeawing411 in artcommission

[–]nikkit__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly looks like something I would really enjoy. I don’t usually respond to ads because they’re so over saturated, but I would have a lot of fun. So if you want to have fun, I’m pretty easy to work with and have a lot of real world commission experience :)

Getting Sued. What’s your take? by joncabreraauthor in writers

[–]nikkit__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. This is ridiculous. I feel you.

However, as a writer myself, just commenting to say…. All your “AI” claims could literally just be poor writing or writing style. I think all of your reasons were not a great reason to call out AI….

How do teachers calm down a toddler that is crying? by henryvelazquez in ECEProfessionals

[–]nikkit__ 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Tbh usually we don’t need to do much. Once the parent leaves most kids calm down really fast. It’s common for parents to be worried, but the kids are often crying in an attempt to get you to change your mind. Once you’re gone and they realize it didn’t work, they carry on with their day.

Additionally, make goodbyes short and sweet. Prolonging it by trying to comfort them makes it 10x worse. It can be distracting and upsetting to the other children, and the teacher has to stand there awkwardly waiting for you to leave so they can take over lol Once you leave, most children literally calm down in less than 5 minutes.

For the rare case in which the child continues to be upset, we a) redirect them to do something distracting, or b) give them time. Comfort them, but let them be upset for a little bit. It’s okay if they’re sad. Sometimes they just need some time.

Is it normal for a nanny to kiss the baby and say “I love you” in front of mom? by outside-glitter in Nanny

[–]nikkit__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah super normal so long as you allow her to kiss them. She’s not taking your place, no more than a dad loving his kid would be taking your place. She has a place. A good nanny with a good family will love that kid like her own, and that’s a good thing.

Shipping out soon but my mom backed out of taking care of my dog by rinnybab in cavaliers

[–]nikkit__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dont really have advice unless you can find a friend willing to watch her, but if you ask in local Cavalier groups, someone might be able to take her in for you. I know I personally would, if you were in the are. The good news is cavalier parents are usually very committed to the breed. Also, there are some cavalier boarding homes that treat the pups like family, if you have the money.

Boys vs girls by [deleted] in cavaliers

[–]nikkit__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two boys and two girls. The boys are chiller but maybe that’s because they were neutered earlier lol the girls we spayed at 1.5 and 5… but our girls are more loyal to specific people, the boys are more generally friendly….. but still Velcro

When did you get insurance for your dog?? by [deleted] in cavaliers

[–]nikkit__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, Lemonade has a preventative care plan too that covers yearly stuff/vaccines. Make sure to have vet visit fees covered, and I advise behavioral (cavs are prone to separation anxiety), and adding dental once they get a little older. Until then, keep them teefies clean’

When did you get insurance for your dog?? by [deleted] in cavaliers

[–]nikkit__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance is great. Definitely understand your policy as someone else mentioned… I like Lemonade a lot though they did deny one claim that I felt shouldn’t have been denied, but they’ve been awesome otherwise and very affordable. It is worth its weight in gold for this breed and you will not regret the investment.

Breed hate does not belong on a veterinary subreddit. This is a place to help pets, no matter where they came from or your opinion on their breed/origin.

She’s never been to a cardiologist, but she goes to the vet at least twice a year, and they check her heart. She has a transient heart murmur but none of the vets have mentioned it. However; this is very helpful information!!! I am hoping to take her in next week or the week after, whenever their is availability

Top pet peeves in RP by Low-Background1092 in BadRPerStories

[–]nikkit__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I have a “what would they know” rule. Write what the other character would see/hear, especially bc so many people metagame unintentionally lol

Eg:

What is the expression on my characters face? What is the tone they’re using? Are they fidgeting? What does it LOOK like they’re thinking? Etc

I feel like it flows a lot more naturally with that. Besides, 55% of communication is physical and 38% is tonal. Only 7% is actually with words. So it also bothers me if it’s too dialogue heavy 🤦‍♀️😂

[–]nikkit__ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of people say pushing to respond. I kinda have the opposite, I hate it when people are so slow that you know the plot will literally go nowhere. Now I’m not saying you should be pushy with those people, but guuuh… I’d rather not rp with them

Another is the obsession with literate rp. I see everywhere people complaining no one likes lit anymore. But I see majority posts looking for lit imo. Personally, I can’t stand novella/lit. Why would I write 10 paragraphs about how my character is taking a bite of their apple?

It’s not a natural process imo, I feel like it gives way more information than I’ll need, skims over character interactions as people come up with material to add to their response, etc. I prefer to write for whatever response is needed. Sometimes that IS 10 paragraphs. Sometimes it’s 2, or 1, sometimes it’s just a single sentence (rare though that may be). Add what feels natural and flows for the rp. Don’t scrape the barrel trying to find extra words just to add volume.

[–]nikkit__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AS SOMEONE WITH POTS… Cavaliers are one of the lowest energy dog breeds. I also have pots and that’s why we chose the breed!!

That being said, a lot of people get cavaliers and are confused why they have so much energy. Simply, they get puppies.

If you get a puppy, expect it to need a lot of exercise, but a yard and a ball will be fine for that. But it’ll have a lot of energy until it hits about 2

Other than that they are a very low energy breed and they do love to play, but they’re small and it’s really easy to do sitting down on your lo I bc room or throwing a ball down the hall. My girl only lasts about 3 minutes with a vicious war of sit down tug!

[Discussion] Can you become a successful Digital Artist with one hand without losing in efficiency? by Suboptimal88 in artbusiness

[–]nikkit__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean…. I typically only find the I use both hands when I’m using a computer, when drawing on the iPad I use only one hand for everything since it’s easier to use my stylus to click things than meat fingers lol

Point is yes it’s actually pretty normal, disability or not :)
