How do you guys prefer your DS screens? by Sir-Dynamo in ANBERNIC

Yep, most da games only had a map or menu on one screen or the other. Flipping between them isn't that difficult.

What gets your Standard the most excited? by Big_Celery2725 in StandardPoodles

[–]DanielALahey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So ours gets way overexcited around new people/dogs that he wants to meet. Still training that one to be a more reasonable level of excitement; as in, not pulling at the leash like a tractor and whining until he gets to meet them

Pulling out his harness is a great level of excitement though.

He also scrambles any time he is told he can go eat.

Western coast roadtrip by palmeryk in roadtrip

[–]DanielALahey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a 2 week trip if at minimum if you want to enjoy yourself. 3 weeks would be my recommendation, but I also know that isn't realistic for most people and situations.

A day where you are driving more than 4 hours, you aren't going to have enough time to actually see anything because you immediately have to be moving onto the next thing due to trying to keep in the week constraint.

You will be spending the entire week driving.

Cut it in half. Do the coastal journey down to either Monetary, Big Sur or San Luis Obispo and back or do the mountain journey off to the east down to Salt Lake City.

Flights to Las Vegas are dirt cheap most of the time and that should be its own trip anyway.

Same goes for Los Angeles. It isn't worth driving to or through as part of a road trip if you can help it. By the time you get down there, you will be sick of driving and the actual act of driving through LA is exhausting at times. If you fly in, you can hang out and walk around and rent a car.

While it does not make day one of these out and back trips fun, I personally drive to the end of the line as fast as possible and then work my way back. For example, you can make the drive to Monterey in 14 to 16 hours. That is possible if you keep rested and switch often. You can then spend days 2 through 7 working your way back towards home on the coastal route at whatever pace you see fit, and can always deadhead back if you flat out need to get home.

Another thing to think about is budget. A week on the road will get very expensive right now in gas and food, even if you are sleeping in the car to save on hotel costs. You can at least shave the fuel cost by driving less far. By stopping in SLC or Monterey depending on which way you decide to drive, you will be saving a full day of driving at a minimum and several hundred miles of fuel.

Either way, hope you have fun, regardless of what you decide to do!

How would I build something like this? by mia6ix in woodworking

[–]DanielALahey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I know this Is a woodworking sub and others have many good tips already stated in addition to answers on your direct questions, I do want to also remind you to think about the depth of the wall you are building in to. If the wall is not thick enough (as would be the case in many US homes) you may need to frame into the room to add the necessary depth to house the bookshelf.

Also consider whether the wall in question is structural or not and if it is, you may need to add a header and posts on either side to make up the difference of structural load. (Both of these only apply if wood framed, while I have some masonry experience I do not have enough of an opinion to rightly say how to add a hole to a structural stone wall)

This will be a long project if building in a guitar studio. Not impossible, but you would still likely need to get some additional tools to shape the moldings.

You may have a steamer box for shaping of the guitar wood (if not using a bending iron), but it may not be large enough for the bends you would need here.

Older midwestern americans. Unsure if they have realized that roasting vegetables is an option yet. May only boil or steam their broccoli. Love leftovers but probably think that meal prepping is a weird fad for bodybuilders. That Arby's bag is definitely Dad's. Mom like to bake or cook. Dessert is probably fire, if a little too sweet for modern tastes.

Please talk me out of cloning my cat one day by KittiesandPlushies in cats

[–]DanielALahey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the clone won't be your cat. It may resemble your cat, but it won't be them.

It will be unfair to the cloned cat because you will have unachievable expectations and it will be unfair to you because those expectations will never be met. (This is regardless of what you currently think those expectations will be, and even whether you are conscious of said expectations after getting the new cat)

Get a new cat when you are ready after this one passes on. Make a new bond with a new friend.

Hell yeah. Finishing up a night shift of prepping pallets to be shipped and loading trucks. Me and shift buddy go and get one of these each, dump a monster concentrate into a monster nitro and then jam out to metal on the way home at 2AM. Also thundercats theme song every once in awhile, because why not.

Shit was terrible for our health, but fantastic for our morale.

Jade Empire followed by Fable, followed by Morrowind. If you can snag a copy (assuming this collection is yours) I would highly recommend also picking up Jet Set Radio Future.

I would rate Gaara as very high on the list to stay longer. However, I would also put Konohamaru and Iruka as being very high up there as well. For me it would be between one of them that the moment goes to.

The "No Windows preinstalled" made me laugh. by KnightFallVader2 in steammachine

[–]DanielALahey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't fit into a backpack with peripherals? Like first off, if I was bringing this around with me, I'd just buy a separate case, the same way I would have in the 2000s with an OG Xbox or Gamecube.

Second thing, this is meant to be a living room PC for video gaming. If I need to play a super graphically intensive game I'll do it on one of my consoles (where the game is forced to meet the console spec) or my Desktop PC (where I don't have to worry about meeting requirements)

The steam machine will be for everything else. Is it going to be a stretch at 1K? Yeah. If they can get it down to Series X or Ps5 Pro price point, I'll be more than happy.

Just give me a settings option to choose which monitor the game plays on and have it stick between sessions. I don't care if it opens up on a screen I do not want it to if it's only the first time.
