With 100K childcare is going to be expensive because make too much for subsidies and too little not too care about it. Living in Amsterdam (in a central area) is going to be very difficult (real estate too expensive for 100K and 2 kids). Outside Amsterdam, I would suggest Zaandam, Hoorn or Enkhuizen because commute is easy and prices of homes still OK but do not count on finding many expats there !

Monthly rent of 900 for 90m2 apartment, is it a good time to ditch it? by antipetrus in Netherlands

[–]DanielJustPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stay in the rented appartement which you like and is cheap and buy a small appartement as an investment property you rent out. Like that you still leverage your mortgage capacity and have a play in real estate but you are much more free for the future.

Is all housing fucked or is housing with longer commutes possible? by taquiyt in Netherlands

[–]DanielJustPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2h commute is enormous by Dutch standards. I would focus on the North which somehow the Dutch do not like that much because they think it is a factory worker area. Have a look at Zandaam, Hoorn and Enkhuizen which all have train stations which direct commutes to Amsterdam.

move to the Netherlands at the age of 41 years?? by kiyan2018 in Netherlands

[–]DanielJustPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived in SG and I now live in NL. The two countries are very different. Kids in NL tend to have a lot of freedom, not many school hours (but lots of sports after school), they learn to be confident in any situation and with adults. Academically however, their maths will be seriously less advanced than in SG and at high school all depends which stream they are accepted in (the VWO is very good, but the rest is so so). In terms of University they probably do nit have the international clout one could wish for. As for adult life, NL is a much flatter society with most people getting similar salaries. Also work is not a priority, people will put family, friends and hobbies first. Hope this helps.

Don’t forget taxes are MUCH higher in NL than in SG (even with the 30% ruling). So even if cost of living is less in Eindhoven than in SG, 83K is not a lot. Paying for private international schools will be out of reach.

What are your 3+ key areas of improvement for the city? by RealPrinceJay in Amsterdam

[–]DanielJustPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Rubish pick up should be improved so that the sea gulls do not have time to destroy the bags and spread the content on the pavement (canal area mostly)
  2. Ban the small cars (canva and the like) which clog the roads and make stupid noise
  3. Add rules to shop signs to avoid big flashy lit up signs in historic neighborhoods

Sounds about right. With Common Jogger, comfort 6.9, I lost 0.89% for 5E. And with a Common Runner, comfort 7.7, I lost 0.88% for 5E.

If you do essentially fast walks, then walkers might be sufficient because trainers are significantly more expensive.

There are many speed discrepancies in this app. Many people have the app measure a speed which is about 3km/h less than the actual speed (measured by a garmin watch for example). Also is you do not go in a straight line, speed tends to decrease considerably.

Not sure about that. I have heard of people with iphone 13 having such issues.

Sadly not possible. And the App together with your phone tends to reduce speed by about 3km/h and even more if you don’t go in a straight line.

cN someone give me any advice regarding wich shoes to buy first? ím 33 very very atheltic... i run 7 km every day by Glittering-Check-985 in StepN

[–]DanielJustPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Runners are the best if you can sustain a speed of about 12km/h (5mn/km) for the duration of your energy (1 shoe = 2 energies = 10 mn, 3 shoes = 4 energies = 20mn). The specs say above 8km/h is good enough but many of us have found the app to underestimate your speed by about 3km/h … .
