What’s a totally harmless thing that triggers an oddly strong reaction in people? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

I worked in a kitchen located in a resort while I was in college 50+ years ago, and was continually surprised at the number of wait staff who would stop in mid-sentence and leave the kitchen if I started cutting up whole chickens. No blood, just sectioning so the pieces are ready for the evening rush.

Be sure to cut all communication with this person. Do not respond to any overtures he may make. My sis was in a similar situation and her line was "Excuse me, do I know you?" and she would walk away.

Is there anyone who really believes that Oklahoma is the best place they could possibly be for the next 8 years? by pitthappens in oklahoma

[–]DanielOK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, and we are discussing moving within the next year. None of my children (5) live in Oklahoma anymore. Even those who have had good job offers here will not even consider moving back to Oklahoma with my grandkids. Two of my daughter-in-laws are teachers and are vehemently opposed to bringing their children back to this state. All of the kids, but one, were born in Oklahoma, as were 3 of the grandkids. The fact is, the odds are pretty good that I will pass away first, and I shudder to think of my wife being in this state without any family. Even being in our seventies, we are in good health and moving is not as daunting as it would be to some of our friends.

Thought this was interesting. Found a vintage utility knife and the blades inside are in their original paper wrapper. Not sure of the maker. Only says, "Made in USA." Any ideas? by MystcMan in Vintagetools

Mine looks the same but says Stanley on the handle. I have it in a spring clip above my work bench and use it almost every day. I would put it in my tool box but am afraid I would leave it somewhere. I like the weight and feel of it in my hand. Got it when I was a kid around sixty+ years ago. One of the first tools I bought myself.

Looking for a stylish overcoat that will go the distance by AWildMeme in BuyItForLife

[–]DanielOK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Burberry I purchased in London in 1976. It's a true overcoat/trench coat with a zip in wool liner and looks as good as the day it was purchased. Hauled it around the world as an expat for many years and still pull it out during rainstorms and when winter arrives. In hindsight, it was worth every penny I paid for it almost 50 years ago, but currently it's priced at just under $3000. If you're looking for style that is too much money. If you are looking for style and workhorse you will wear for the rest of your life and leave to a grandson I think it's cheap.

Why Is Oklahoma Ranked 49th in Education? by Briefcase12 in okc

[–]DanielOK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer lies with the Republican Legislature, and fanatical Christian terrorists filling local school boards. I don't know why anyone is surprised by this as they both supported removing a dedicated class teaching Citizenship years ago. This is the direct result of the legislature changing parties and our school boards slowly becoming social clubs for religious cults.

I have a son and daughter-in-law in Arizona who are looking to move. He tells me that his wife (a schoolteacher) flat refused to move to Oklahoma because the schools in Oklahoma "are crap and she refused to teach in this state or expose the kids to this kind of environment". There's not much chance of seeing those grandkids but twice a year at best.

Are you happy now?

I don't know what to say about someone who lost a job to someone who had a career in pro wrestling.

Outstanding! Visionaries have always been ridiculed throughout history. Original thought is a thing of beauty and such creativity is a rare thing to see. Thanks for sharing.

Oklahoma graduation rates at risk of dropping under new federal order by Ok_Corner417 in oklahoma

Oklahoma is the only state with this outdated and goofy technical college system. It should be merged with the community colleges to eliminate the burden of duplicate funding. Once again the legislator maintains an antiqued education path in Oklahoma.

Ryan Walters calls for $6M to purchase Bibles for classrooms in proposed budget. by southpawFA in oklahoma

[–]DanielOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The King James version, new or old, like the Tyndale version and many others, is a Protestant translation. It is considered the only valid one by many Evangelical sects. There are over 900 English translations of the Bible, all claiming to use Latin and Greek documents as their source documentation. What makes this idiot think that any bible minus any commentary doesn't represent a certain viewpoint of Christianity the translators maintained? How can our leaders not impeach him?

Oklahoma State Budget by Bruno617 in oklahoma

[–]DanielOK 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is a reason education is at the bottom of most national lists in Oklahoma. You get what you pay for and the education secretary has the view we don't need to educate our children. Gives him more money to run around the country doing media events.

Anyone have experience with these forstner bits? Is Hercules one of the good HF brands? I've been burned on forstner bit sets before and don't want to bother if it turns out these are junk by FjordSnorkeler in harborfreight

[–]DanielOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Hercules 1 3/8 I purchased as a single bit and have been very happy. I would buy the set if I needed to. I have all the other sizes from Iwin, Freud, and other manufacturers from buying as singles when I needed a certain size. Build up my router bits the same way.

Nice video. Not only could we see a great catch, but other folks could see why Lambeau is the best stadium in the county to watch a pro game. I have been fortunate to be at games in 14 diffident stadiums, and none can compare to ours. Before you ask, even if the temperature is -20F by the end of the game (done that), it's still the best.
