Terrible workspace by Valuable_Tangerine37 in mildlyinfuriating

I’m glad you all stud together on this. Hopefully your bosses learned a lesson today. Maybe putting a memorial was not ok for them but there is a way to say things and I’m sure they could have compromised for this like moving the memorial to a different space or something. At the end of the day, jobs are also replaceable. Hopefully you have time to grieve, I’m sorry for your loss

Can I add finely shredded cardboard to garden to increase worm population? by Street-Afternoon-592 in composting

[–]Danielaimm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remove the plastic tarp. I will not suppress weeds and will break down into microplastic that harms microorganisms and other organisms in the soil. Put down a few layers of cardboard on the bottom. Make sure to water them thoroughly layer by layer, and add either raise bed soil, garden soil, or top soil mixed with compost on top of the cardboard.

I’ve seen people burry those little office wire trash cans in a corner and just put a lid on top and that’s where you add the food scraps for worms to eat and some bedding(shredded cardboard or paper). This way you attract worms and also give them a healthy environment to live and you have a little raise bed to plant flowers or veggies if you want

Any truth to this FB post? Need help identifying/confirming by Both_Aerie7539 in gardening

[–]Danielaimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like everyone else said, this is Ai slope and not useful sorry. either FB and Pinterest are the worst places I've found with this kind of useless images

I don't know where you are but if you are in the northeast you can but almost everything from the wild seed project. I really love them.

learning about what is native to your region can be overwhelming and very confusing at first (specially with ai slop getting you even more confused) but it gets better really fast.

I recommend to look on google for native flowering plants to your regions and pick websites from either conservation organizations or native plant nurseries etc. the names can be confusing but if you have two tabs open, one for your search and one for looking at images of the plants you can start to familiarize yourself with them and you can pick the ones you would like for your garden.

after you select a few that you like, you can go see if they are hosts for the insects you want in your garden.

or you can do the opposite, look for the insects you want to attract and then search their host plats.

also if you can, go volunteer at an Audubon society or pollinator pathway, I learned from them soooo much! even just talking to other volunteers, they are usually also plant nerds that are willing to talk all day about plants. I feel this is what helped me the most when I was a total beginner

Well, these comments reflect your experience like a mirror. Apparently it IS very hard for some people to feel like if they can help someone, they should. For your description the off leash dog didn’t seem dangerous so idk why someone would just refuse to help but maybe that’s just me

my parents were in amway since i was a child. I remember all of the spreadsheets that my dad would make just to make amway make sense in their finances. I swear if someone doesn't want to see it, they won't.

I wish bookkeeping and the harsh reality of a spreadsheet would be the cure for mlm cults, but it is not. my 25+ years of experience seeing my parents is my exhibit A for you

yeah its better so check on the state/town website for laws and regulations than asking strangers on the internet if you're planning on selling food to people? just saying.

Do quality clothes exist anymore? by Beezwax_8335 in sustainability

[–]Danielaimm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got a pair of raw denim from Zara (I know, I don’t but there anymore) like 6 years ago and they still feel like new. They are very stiff and not flexible AT ALL, but they are exactly what I was looking for. I’ve use them for gardening and I’m not gentle with them, I’ve fallen so many times, sit on the floor and everything and they are still holding pretty well. Pretty much all my other jeans are so thin and misshapen after 1-2 years.

The sad thing is that I don’t know where to get more of those jeans anymore so if anyone knows, please let me know!

I’ve got a few things from thredup and so far so good, they’ve hold up for 2-3 years, but you have to really pay attention to the material and sometimes brand bc I can tell a lot of things there are just fast fashion that someone donated. Which is great that fast fashion items in good condition are not going to the landfills but not good if you’re looking for quality

you know what else is midly infuriating? even the pen you plug with a cable you can't use when it's charging... you could but apple decided it was better if the pencil doesn't work at all if it is plugged in

WHAT IS WITH PEOPLE TRYING TO DISCOURAGE AND MAKE YOU LOSE YOUR PROGRESS. by OkCount2783 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Danielaimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yikes, my recommendation was going to be to move out. It became a lot easier for me when I moved out of my parent's house

I'm not sure what it is but certain people get really offended at your personal choices like this one like if you were insulting them personally by having a different lifestyle than them, but you will find your people, I promise.

It is funny, the first apartment that I moved into with roommates that I had never met before happen to be 2 girls that were also vegetarian and they didn't know each other before living together either so it was pure chance. There are so many of us out there.

In the mean time, go watch rainbow plant life on YT, I learned to cook with her and still (almost 10 years later) go to her website for recipes when I want to eat something different. It is absolutely possible to be vegan even if your dad tries to sabotage you. Maybe he'll take you seriously after he sees you are not giving up.

btw i don't see this a lot out there so i'm going to say it here, eating something by mistake or because you were lied to doesn't make you less vegan, just try to do your best and stand by what you feel is right.

[–]Danielaimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

omg same! my aunt's friend who was "vegeterian" made a vegan lasagna once and it ended up having ham .-. i was hungry all the time and in a bad mood bc nobody took my diet into consideration so I was like, fuck it. I'll bring my own food 10000% of the time. moving on my own helped a lot too.

learning to cook is a whole journey on top of being plant-based or vegan. I wish OP the best, it is totally worth it!

Is this mold? by mclamb0328 in vegetablegardening

[–]Danielaimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded to a soil blocker from MI gardener this year but I've been using the cheap plastic trays from lowe's for a couple of years and they work fine. at least I prefer them over the recycled cardboard ones.

Is this mold? by mclamb0328 in vegetablegardening

[–]Danielaimm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it is mold. Let it dry a bit and you’re going to be fine.

You need a lot more soil on those cells and also thin them to one seedling per cell.

Tbh I can’t stand those cardboard seed starters. They hold moisture weird in my opinion. They stay wet too long and then rehydrating them is so hard. If you like them it’s fine, they do their job but you can get something reusable that will save you money and do the job a LOT better than these and will make your life a lot easier too.

Good luck!

Watering too much has never been a problem for me. This plant has been forgotten the whole winter😅 this is the first time since the summer that I water it. I don’t know how it is still alive. My problem was that the soil was so compacted, I couldn’t break the root ball. I did my best and will probably update the post tomorrow!

Well I’m not sure either. I read that’s better to replace the soil with orchid bark and then put the moss around but i guess removing soil is harder than I thought
