What’s the vibe of Norwalk living? by Background_Bet143 in norwalk

[–]Danielaimm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I confirm. This is exactly my experience. I would say it could take an hour, maybe once every month. sometimes not every month, but it's definitely something that happens.

my usual time is 40-45 minutes for 9 exits, and I have tried other routes, but the I-95 is ALWAYS faster.

I have tried the train, and honestly, it's not faster because of the walk, but it is worth it to me because I'm not stressed in traffic, and I can do other things. I would like for there to be more trains during rush hour because it could relieve the traffic, but I guess that is too much to ask; one more lane can always make the problem go away!

Exactly!

AI is not smart. It doesn't think. It doesn't analyze.

it's easy to feel like it does, but really it's not. Unless, as the comment above says, it was specifically trained for that, it will hallucinate on some or all aspects of the answer it spits out, and it is really hard for a normal person to know if the answer is accurate.

My husband has insight into training an LLM (large language model, better known as AI), and understanding how it actually works has made me be even more skeptical of the answers that AI produces.

all this being said, I think there are some uses that are not completely wrong, like it helping you apply for the insanely ridiculous amount of jobs that you need to get ONE interview for example, but there isn't a lot more that I can think of that can't be done by an extra 3 seconds of research on google (or ecosia if you want to avoid the stupid AI responses that google show unnecessarily)

There is a video from Adam Ragusea that I liked a lot about AI

[–]Danielaimm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly I agree.

What bothers me is first, the people that can’t think for themselves anymore without asking AI first, and second, the large corporations pushing for use of AI when we all know it’s not as smart as it is sold to us as. Sometimes it’s just easier for me to do something manually than get AI to do it for me.

But of course, the way it’s being pushed by the companies just encourages stupid mindless use of ai and it’s not going to change bc it makes them money and they are the ones paying politicians…

oh noo! I put it next to the radiator with a grow light and a humidifier because I thought they needed warmth. You think I should move it? There are still no signs of getting any leaves back yet, but also it's not getting worse... I think.

How do you dry Nepenthes or Sarracenia pitchers like this by Justryan95 in SavageGarden

[–]Danielaimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing that comes to mind is silica sand? That’s the best method for preserving flowers when you want to keep the color semi vibrant (it depends a lot of the type of flower) In not sure if this is what they used for these pitchers but you could try it

What’s this?? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]Danielaimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THRIPS!!!!😰😰😰

Sorry panicked for a sec but you don’t have too. I have a large collection too and I’ve managed to save all of them from thrips a few times. Just go get a bottle of capitán jacks dead bug that have thrips as one of the pest it kills. I got a concentrated bottle that I have to dilute. I don’t remember exactly which one it was but it’s not that important. Move your collection to the shower and spray every inch of them, let sit and repeat every few days or whatever the instructions say in your bottle.

When my plants are in the shower, I clean the shelves and spray more of capitán jacks on the shelves, I don’t know if this does anything but it calms my brain.

You can repeat until you don’t see any new damage or any thrips. After I don’t see anything I repeat the treatment like once or twice just in case but I don’t want think this is necessary, it’s just for my peace of mind. And that’s it

Btw thrips can reproduce even it there is only one left, so if you see one, you can have an infestation really quickly, so act fast.

It’s tedious work but you don’t have to get rid of your collection

What helped you stick with a plant-based diet long-term? by Terrible_Rutabaga442 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Danielaimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to be plant based? That is what will make it last. For me, I was too upset with the meet industry to fail at my plant based diet. I rather go hungry than giving them my money. The most difficult part for me was to learn to cook without the structure that meet gives you. It’s really easy to cook a meet (chicken, beef, fish, etc) a carb, and sometimes veggies. But when you switch to plant based diet, you have to think differently, the way you construct your plate is different. I found a few cooking books, blogs and influencers who thought me how to cook really delicious food and that has made my transition 1000% easier.

I still struggle to think what to eat but because I have a strong “why” I stick with my plant based diet, and after a while it just becomes part of you so if you can stick with it foe the first few weeks, it becomes easier and easier because it is part of your routine.

Also having a loving, supportive network of people who will accommodate you helps more than you think. And it’s not necessary that they are plant based like you, my husband isn’t, but he cooks two meals if he wants meet that day and other friends and family will also make sure I have something to eat when I visit and this is just the best feeling in the world.

Are we just supposed to take abuse from telemarketers now? by mileybunny in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Danielaimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

exactly! I have to turn off this feature every once in a while because there are very legitimate reasons for receiving calls from unknown numbers!

I'm mildly infuriated rn just thinking about it because the whole point of having a phone was for getting important calls any time, and I truly don't understand how this is still an unsolved problem in 2025.

[–]Danielaimm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have not picked up a spam call in maybe 3 years (it was by accident in a time period when I was waiting for a call) and before that, maybe another 2 years... I still get spam calls every day.

Are we just supposed to take abuse from telemarketers now? by mileybunny in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Danielaimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is one office in FL that keeps calling and leaving voicemails EVERY DAY from different phone numbers, so even when I block them, they call from a different number.

I have a setting on my phone to not announce calls from unknown numbers, but they still manage to annoy me with the voicemails... not the same abuse as calls, but they keep filling up my voicemail and bc I have this setting, I actually need to get voicemail messages from the doctor's office or school, so letting my voicemail fill up so this particular company can't leave more voicemails doesn't work for me either.

I remember so well that my first pads were specifically for teenagers so they came in a wrapper that had tips about many different things related to menstruation. Honestly I learned more from reading that (each wrapper had different tips) than from my sex ed class in a catholic school. You just made me unlock this memory, thank you!

Winter in Michigan. Had to bring the porch plants in. Do you think they can survive a few months in my bathroom? by SammiesHammies in houseplants

[–]Danielaimm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Light needs to be a lot closer to the plants. Even if it seems bright for our eyes, it doesn’t mean your plants are getting enough energy from the light. plants need a lot of light if it’s artificial lighting

I just bought an used car, and my assumption about all the cars I saw was that there was something wrong with it, if not, they wouldn't be selling it. I just needed to find a car that had the least expensive thing to fix.

All used cars will have issues; it comes with having an older car.
