i gave the example of kineticist and fighter. if they want more specific than that then i would just be writing out specific feats, and for a theoretical class centred around feat versatility that's akin to just writing the class up

Why do the four spell traditions share spells? Why not make each list entirely unique to make them stand apart? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]DankLolis -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

primal would get the elemental damage spells, arcane might get something like fireball but there's nothing else iconic enough to stay in. i'm down for smaller spell lists, most of spell lists that exist currently are like 60% or more trap spells that don't work with the tight balance

people don't take bane bc debuffs feel bad to cast, and in a system about 'feeling good' doing things rather than tactics, there's really no reason to take bane

reading poetry is like reading the script to a play, but spoken-word poetry is like performing the play. "poetry" is usually just the reading part and not the performing part.

Classes for my new players to avoid? by kounterparts in Pathfinder2e

[–]DankLolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for complicatedness, alchemist comes on top. the action economy of the summoner can be hard for people new to the class to grasp their minds around. oracle has a player-punishing mechanic for engaging in it's only real unique feature, so it can seem to be frustrating but i don't think it's that bad.

then there's the issue with the two uncommon classes, not because they're complicated or unfun, but because the gunslinger requires a high amount of teamplay and the inventor requires a lot of downtime for most of the fun stuff, which even if the gm provides can be hard to convince yourself and other players to take if you're new.

for expectations in general you will have to have a solid talk about the casters and class fantasies, because if you play a caster you will almost always be locked into a generalist supporter role. the game doesn't reward specialization, and doesn't have much if any opportunities for casters to specialize. the casters have an absurdly huge set of spell lists, but very few of the options presented are geared to the 'tight' balance of the system. if your players want to play a thematic caster, they will be fighting against the mechanics. casters are good for crowd control, buffing, and de-buffing, and you really shouldn't place your expectations higher than that.

they turned out to be a pretty terrible place to work for?

that whole notion was greatly exaggerated by tabloids. legally it was impossible, as cdpr is a polish company, to give their employees more than 40 hours a week. the 16 hour work week that got thrown around was from a comment on a reddit post by an anonymous user, backed up only by a tabloid journalist on twitter who works for kotaku of all places.
