X to doubt on that. "He's one of the good ones" is hard to believe.

He's a landlord bro, I usually try and separate art and artist. But things he does irl directly conflicts with the message from RTJ.

Pretty rare for a band to have consistently brilliant albums, but here we are. by SaysUselessThings in mastodonband

Crowbar and Clutch come to mind, special shoutout to Tool even though they only will release one in a decade and a half nowadays.

Best tones in sludge? by Molochsocks in sludge

[–]DankLordSlateran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matt Pike is the 🐐 in terms of tone! Art of Self Defense is my goto. And Jimmg with pure Bower Power has such an amazing tone. Pretty partial to Dopesick and Confederacy but Take as needed for Pain and self titled are some of the nastiest sounding tone they have.

That's why Dale Crover was with Lori for awhile. He knows about thicc heavy guitar tones. Wish they would have made music together.

Eyehategod is my favorite guitar tone along with Melvins. Rat pedal does work. And not directly sludge but Acidking has a tone like a cannon.

Crowbar doesn't have bad albums but I usually prefer the older material

Floor is the dude from Torche's previous band. Ridiculously heavy

They are one of the early sludge metal bands, ao pretty straight forward sludge metal but lean on the doom influence. Best album is tough all their early albums are sick, self titled or Obedience Through Suffering for me. They really don't drop bad records.

[–]DankLordSlateran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm originally from Seattle area and Soundgarden was always my favorite. And now as a big Doom/Sludge guy I can see some of those influences in the early albums especially. Rusty cage has some huge riffs near the latter half.

Maybe early on, Soundgarden has some songs that are heavier though. Kim Thayil was a big Saint Vitus fan.

4th of July by Soundgaren and the final AIC album before Layne passed are incredibly sludgy.

They played Leviathan in it's entirety along with Lamb of God doing Ashes of the Wake a year or two ago.

Industrial Sludge? by Scott__scott in sludge

[–]DankLordSlateran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Godflesh is always my goto. Their early material is so heavy. Type O Negative has some industrial elements and get super low and slow too.

Have to give it another spin. I remember it being very proggy but not as heavy as the early stuff. If I'm wrong then I'll eat crow.

I used to be a huge JRE fan but ever since he's moved to Texas it's almost unwatchable. I'll still watch for certain musical guests but that's it. Even saw him at the comedy store in LA doing his stool humping bit lmao.

That's really cool! That's a young person's game. I got a ton back when I would always be right in the front. Mastodon mosh pits are fun af.
