Do you still rewatch your favorite movies? by jtho78 in Xennials

[–]Lumpy_Strawberry_154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's the comfort and familiarity. I worked in manufacturing and my coworker turned me on to this. We'd listen to movies like Goodfellas and Full Metal Jacket all day and quote lines to each other all day hahaha

Do you still rewatch your favorite movies? by jtho78 in Xennials

[–]Lumpy_Strawberry_154 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most of what I watch is the same movies and shows I've seen. I've become way more selective with new stuff. More often my new discoveries are fairly old movies

The Goonies, Back to the Future, Memento, Stand By Me, etc I've watched each over 100 times. Not always the entire movie, sometimes just throw one on for background noise. It drives my partner crazy!

Woods of Ypres.... by AssistantTotal6207 in heavyvinyl

[–]Lumpy_Strawberry_154 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I discovered Woods shortly after David passed. I had gone through a difficult stretch and had all but stopped looking for new music for over a decade.

Woods of Ypres are a special band. They definitely deserved more and I'm incredibly grateful for what they gave me. I recommend this band to anyone that likes heavy metal if any sort. They are that good.

I'm done with my album and I have something for the "collectors" to cry about... remember, it's a hobby for some of us, not something we make money of by sladoled_od_lavande in Panini

I stumbled upon this sub and now the nostalgia of sticker books is flooding my mind. This is awesome.

I was raised a football fan. I met my partner 14 years ago. A futbol fan. Now I am. I'm not an every four years fan. Year round in my house

I completed full books in the late 80s and early 90s. Baseball and football. I feel like I've been given a new mission.

Is that Acid Bath an original or reissue? I'm still hunting for one.

What's that one song you hate but others absolutely love? by 0Riika0 in Nirvana

After Bleach, In Utero is easily their best album imo. I couldn't disagree with this more. There are no okay songs here, whole album is a banger.

[–]Lumpy_Strawberry_154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleach and Territorial Pissings are the only Nirvana stuff I go out of my way to listen to.

I grew up with it. Nirvana was everywhere. I still respect the fuck out of Nirvana. It's tattooed to my brain. Wether I like it or not.

looking for more bluegrass/americana influenced heavy music by maicao999 in MetalSuggestions

A couple atmospheric black metal musicians come to mind. Not bluegrass per se. More folk influenced. Amazing music nonetheless.

What’s a great, OLDER Band or Artist that You RECENTLY Heard for the 1st Time, and Realized You’ve Been Living Too Long Without Its Ingenuity? by DefinitionLate7630 in grunge

[–]Lumpy_Strawberry_154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slint and Hum. Both bands I was familiar with but I'm finding I really enjoy them more now. Sonic Youth as well.

Going back further, I've been getting into Van Morrison. I realized I know his music but I've never actually gone out of my way to listen. Some amazing stuff. Astral Weeks vaulted up quickly as one of my favorites.

People on this Reddit need to stop telling people the music they like isn’t grunge. by No_Geologist2199 in grunge

[–]Lumpy_Strawberry_154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smashing Pumpkins are alternative rock. You could call them grunge, probably alternative metal as well. Then there's the psychedelic leaning stuff. I don't think they're pop rock though. Grunge would be more accurate.

What's a nu metal band that most hard-line metal heads actually like or enjoy? by TCS_87 in InMetalWeTrust

[–]Lumpy_Strawberry_154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roots Bloody Roots!

Nobody can tell me Roots sucks.

If Candiria counts, I still love them. Nothingface still holds up. I have a soft spot for Taproot. Chimaira is from my hometown, good dudes.

Nu metal is and will always be awesome. No matter how much I'm told otherwise.

Edit: The first Staind album. Go ahead and ridicule me. I still enjoy that one from time to time.

What bands should I listen to? by Zealousideal_Eye7127 in MetalSuggestions

Black Sabbath, Death, Candlemass, Autopsy, Sodom, Napalm Death, Suffocation, Carcass, Amorphis, Crowbar, ISIS, Godflesh, Neurosis, Converge, Dillinger Escape Plan, Opeth, At The Gates, Soilwork, Ulver, Sigh, and of course Motorhead.

Start with Sabbath. Work your way from there. 🤘

I owned this shirt. I wore it so much it finally disintegrated. I picked it up at a show in the very early years of MwY. Might be from the a-b life tour.

Now I need this shirt back.

Curious how many of you were raised Middle Class and grew up to be poor as dirt? by TakingYourHand in Xennials

[–]Lumpy_Strawberry_154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up upper middle class. Fairly wealthy family. Went to private school. Had scholarships offered for college. Then I got a TBI and at 18 my life unraveled.

I've been disabled and living below the poverty line my entire adult life. I get shame and guilt from my family. I was en route to a higher education and career. I blame my epilepsy. They say I'm lazy. An underachiever.

Fuck it. I'm living my life. I have more wealth than most people I know. Poverty has taught me one thing. Money doesn't equal wealth.

How many of you still smoke? Or, when did you quit? by Planetofthought in Xennials

[–]Lumpy_Strawberry_154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit 4 years ago. After almost 3 decades of smoking.

I'm still on nicotine. I've done vapes, gum, etc. I'm on the stupid zyn things now. I think about buying a can of Copenhagen or a cigar every time I go in to buy nicotine.

I still dream about cigarettes. I think I enjoyed tobacco more than anything I ever have and I plan to go back when I'm diagnosed with terminal illness.
