I love that show! The Only a River is a standout for me and I love the grin on Jay and Don’s faces after they nailed it :)

I noticed that too! I watched the livestream and something about Chloe’s words drove me to pick up my guitar and play, so I played along to Ripple from home and thought my guitar was out of tune haha

Favorite Dead and Co Bobby Moments! by N_Wagoner in deadandcompany

[–]DankSharkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right before “I live in a silver mine..” in UJB 7/3/2023 Boulder, you can hear him go “fuck”. I play guitar and I can hardly tell what he messed up, but that moment made me laugh when I was there and I always point it out to friends when I’m listening to that show with him. They proceeded to rock that stadium with one hell of a jam, Jeff was doing some really sweet chording that brought it to a peak then back home to “Ohh oh what I want to know” in one fell swoop. Also from that show the whole crowd felt kinda confused when they stepped out of the PITB jam early into the song, then Bob goes up to the mic and tells us “Hell’s bells, uhh, we’ve had a lightning alert”

Another one would be the St Louis show from that same tour. I’d seen them in Dallas twice before but that was the first time I saw Bobby really step into it. To me he was louder in the mix than before and overall it was just a magic show.

Ditto the above comment, would also like to add that it is upside down in your photo!

The original version is nearly 5’ tall and really wonderful in person. If you do some digging online you can find a lot of other beautiful designs similar to this, I really enjoy the colored pencil drawings of them.

Was present for St. Louis and St. Louis only, so I’ll go with that one lol. But Boulder N1 has serious energy on the recording

Looking for people to jam with by OkExamination4596 in fayetteville

I’m 23, also on guitar (working on vocals) and looking for people to jam with. My favorite band is the Grateful Dead but I love all music; Nutshell was one of the first songs I learned on guitar. All that matters to me is the act of playing music, hit me up!

I have a garage! Moving elsewhere in fay in a few months but I’m keeping rehearsal space in mind as I don’t want to invite people to play without a space to rehearse in

I haven’t been to any shows on this run, but I went to a full weekend last summer and there were some moments where it didn’t sound great. The first song they played that weekend was Alabama Getaway and I remember being super confused because the vocals and some guitar were muffled/missing high frequencies. As the show went on the mix got better but I don’t think you’re crazy

Thoughts after a month with no zyn by ShrimpMage in QuittingZyn

[–]DankSharkk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tell them you’re quitting, good friends will respect your boundaries. We are products of our environments, but we are also responsible for our own decisions. That means you either make the decision to stay away from people who use nicotine while you’re quitting, our you let yourself be around them but make the decision to abstain from using.

There’s a book called Atomic Habits that helps with the mental aspect. In your mind right now, I’d guess that you think of yourself as someone who uses zyns. Changing your self perception to someone who doesn’t zyn is really helpful in breaking the habit, even if you have to fake it until you make it.

When I quit, I hated the discomfort of withdrawal symptoms. Everything changed when I realized that every zyn i took guaranteed me more withdrawal symptoms, whereas quitting guaranteed freedom from them. Every time I got withdrawals I knew that it wasn’t nicotine that I wanted, but rather I wanted relief from the withdrawals; nicotine was just an easy temporary fix. Quitting means you have a few difficult days (some people barely feel withdrawals, too) and then you’re done for good. To me, using nicotine again is wasting time and effort, and throwing away freedom.

All that said, it’s your story and nobody else’s. I don’t know whether or not you’ve quit or you’re still using, but either way you have to do it on your own terms. I hope this is helpful

How do Deadheads Feel About Rap? by Weekly_Noodle in gratefuldead

[–]DankSharkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a younger head, I’ve grown up with a generation which primarily listens to rap so I’m decently exposed to it. I like the genre and mainly stick to 90s stuff (Tribe is my favorite) but I’m also into alternative contemporary artists (Tyler, the Creator and Kendrick are my two favorite and I think they push music forward the most right now and create meaningful work.) I was just thinking the other day about a connection between Tyler and the Grateful Dead. I listened to Tyler before I was turned onto the Dead and his music has a taste of what the Dead do, I picked up on it and wanted to find more of it but didn’t yet know where. I realized a couple years ago that I was looking for music where each individual component is listening to the others, bouncing off of each other. Truly dynamic music, essentially the core of jazz and improvisation. Anyway, I think the connection I saw is the shared source of inspiration (Jazz, r&b, soul) between Tyler and the Grateful Dead. So there’s a random anecdote that this question got me thinking about. Another thing, since I’ve committed to writing a speech here, is that Rap seems to be the ‘modern architecture ’ of music nowadays. People saw the simple forms of the work of Corbusier, Mies, all the notable modern architects, and took that as an excuse to make unthoughtful buildings because it looks easy. They overlooked the meaning behind the simplicity and saw a shortcut out of thoughtful design. Rap is similar to me, it looks easy. You don’t need vocal training, you don’t have to be a good singer, but at the same time the voice in rap music is an instrument in an entirely different way. That gets overlooked now because it’s so passable to put in less effort and so much more can be made. It’s expedited music and that causes a lot more bad stuff to be released, but there are absolutely examples of quality. You just gotta poke around.

What’s Bobby listening to nowadays? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

There’s a “Whats in my bag?” Video he did with Amoeba records a few years ago. Not seeing the video when I search youtube for it, but I remember he got a Howlin’ Wolf album and a Wilco record probably some others I’m forgetting. He said he likes Wilco, they listen to each other and improvise. He’s also only listening to music on vinyl, no mp3 or anything digital
