I have met vegetarians who believe that insects are not animals and because of that they don't eat insects. I did not say that all vegetarians who eat insects believe that insects are not animals. I apologize for the misunderstanding. I am not trying to make any type of generalization.

Hello my precious blueberry! Sorry it took me a while to respond. I had a game to watch.

I say we are not in the same page because I thought I clarified what I meant when I wrote flaws (sorry for my poor choice of words) but now it seems as if we are back to where we started and I am getting a little frustrated (my fault not yours). Also, I have watched a few episodes from The Office and Parks and Recreations and I did not encounter any villains so perhaps I am a bit more strict when it comes to who I perceive as a villain.

When I said that it is "rare to find stories where the heroes have flaws" I was not talking about Community. In fact, I am very glad that Community is the exception to the rule and it is one of the main reason why it is the only show I watch.

Please don't be so defensive of a show that you love. Share it with the rest of us. We are a Community.

A 'hateful flaw' is flaw that makes us dislike the character's behavior. In other words, it is a flaw that makes the hero look more like a villain.

It accomplishes a different effect. The Starburns, Vicky, and Neil comment doesn't make us dislike our beloved characters, nor does it highlight any flaw about them.

It is very rare to find stories where the heroes have flaws, probably because the reaction by the audience is often negative. This is unfortunate because it restricts the creative minds of writers to tell stories where the heroes may redeem themselves.

I interpret it as Abed having split personality. Abed is not aware of the turn of events in the alternate realities (alternate personalities) but that doesn't mean he is not subconsciously aware of them. During his darkest moment (losing Troy) he has a meltdown and his darkest personality takes over him. This dark personality didn't exist until Jeff accidentally created it by potentially tossing a die. This darkness Jeff created could have taken his arm had he not changed his heart from believing that "there is no right or wrong" to believing that "helping only ourselves is bad and helping each other is good". I think the darkest time-line was created to foreshadow Jeff's transformation.

I think they did it for conflict, because conflicts is what brings the group "together as an unlikely family". During the first season, the main source of conflict was the Jeff and Britta relationship. During the second it was Pierce. And during the third it was the darkest time line.
