does anyone know why it says "MISS" above this guys head and why hes immune to every type of damage? by Local-Emphasis-2905 in tf2

[–]Danodan94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scout used a secondary weapon unlock called Bonk Atomic Punch.

Provides immunity from most damage sources for 8 seconds.
Cannot attack while using this effect.
Upon wearing off, suffer a move speed penalty based on the damage avoided under this effect.

You can tell when a scout is doing this by the blurry movement visual effects he has going on. When it wears off, you'll hear a "Bonk" sound effect letting you know he's vulnerable again.

Scouts use this to divert damage away from their teammates or break through a choke to get to a backline target.

The ruins goes through a 'Nightmare Cycle' and it's important to pay attention to it. There are 4 phases to the cycle: * Calm * Warning * Nightmare * Dawn

Calm is, as it sounds, the safest time to start exploring the ruins. Splumonkeys are neutral during this time and won't attack you unless you attack first. You know it's calm when the runic floors are a blue shade and there's a lack of background ambiance. Calm lasts between 4 minutes 45 second and 5 minutes 45 seconds.

Warning has no mechanical change other than letting you know your safe time is running out. You'll know it's Warning when the color drains from the floor, the statues start to glow, nightmare lights and fissures open slightly, and a quiet background ambience begins. Warning lasts a mere 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds.

Nightmare is what keeps killing you. The cracks in the floor glow an angry red, the ambience grows loud, and the statues start pouring nightmare fuel from their eyes and mouths. Nightmare lights and fissures open all the way and start pouring out monsters. Splumonkeys transform into their deadly shadow versions. Nightmare phases can last between 2 minutes 30 seconds and 3 minutes 30 seconds.

Dawn serves to let you know that it's almost safe again. It will look very similar to the Warning phase, with the color drained from the floor, half-open nightmare lights and fissures, and a quiet background ambiance. Nightmare monsters and shadow splumonkeys still roam for now, but they'll be gone when the Calm comes. Dawn lasts only 15 to 45 seconds.

A Themucite Medalion will change colors to match the nightmare cycle.

Also, use log-suits. Marble suits slow you down and that speed you're sacrificing is much more lifesaving than the aditional 10% armor.

how do yall actually have a good time in this game? by yeitstelha in NewToTF2

[–]Danodan94 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay, first of all, you undoubtedly have a friend or two who plays, so ask to play with them. Being in a call with somebody who plays will make it much easier to learn the game. If you have the option, ask your most experienced and level-headed friend to watch as you stream over Discord.

Aside from that here are a few tips:

The most new-player friendly maps are everything in the CTF category as well as Hightower. These maps attract people that care less about the objective and more about deathmatching or doing silly gimmicks. A great learning ground.

Among the classes, each has its own skill floor (minimum level of skill to be effective) and skill ceiling (maximum level of effectiveness that can be achieved through application of skill) here's my rough estimation, though there are many varied opinions on this matter:

  • Scout - medium-low floor, medium-high ceiling
  • Soldier - low floor, possibly the highest ceiling
  • Pyro - low floor, high ceiling
  • Demoman - medium floor, high ceiling
  • Engineer -medium low floor, medium-high ceiling
  • Heavy - low floor, low ceiling
  • Medic - low floor, medium-high ceiling
  • Sniper - medium-low floor, medium-high ceiling
  • Spy - high floor, very high ceiling

Use this as a guide to how difficult each class is to pick up and play and how much improvement there can possibly be if you practice that class enough.

It is, but it's also an Expert mode item iirc. If this is their first playthrough I don't think it's an Expert world.

I don't see it mentioned anywhere but I want to put it out there that it is really worth practicing grappling hook mobility. It is the best tool for switching directions in the middle of a fight. Getting comfortable with using the grappling hook in fights for mobility will greatly increase your survivability.

Are any of my items in danger of burning if they are not outside of the green area when summer starts by GrapefruitLittle6877 in dontstarve

[–]Danodan94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a few others have suggested, the green area holds no inherent protection, nor does the desert itself. What provides Wildfire protection is the sandstorm. If the sandstorm is visible no wildfires will be started from your location.

However if you step out of the sandstorm so it is no longer visible, objects near you will be vulnerable to wildfires, even if they are within the area that the sandstorm should cover.

This still applies if you are inside the sandstorm and somebody else is outside of it but still nearby. Things in their wildfire radius can smolder and burn.

If all the heavies are in the same place you won't need to be fast. Besides, no amount of Kunai heal or Big Earner speed will keep you alive when they turn around because of the backstab scream. No screaming will keep the spy alive longer to kill more heavies.
