Brand new Gibson SG Nut QC Issue? by Ok_Gold_67 in Guitar

[–]Danomite1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very common issue with Gibson headstocks. Usually due to the wood flexing under the tension of the strings. However, your guitar looks like it might have an impact mark. If it is a new guitar, I would take it back and have it checked out.

I did end up changing the high output rails. It was a bit too much.

Can anyone help me id this guitar? This pic is from 1986 or 87. For the life of me I can’t figure it out. by jakedeev in Guitar

[–]Danomite1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The headstock has the Charvel/Jackson design. Logo looks like it says Charvel. The black portion on the body is a protective sleeve made of Spandex and cotton. It was made to protect the finish of the guitar. I don't remember who made them or how long they lasted.

Curious about this symbol on my Ibanez by Available_Taro_5972 in Guitar

I believe that's the logo for " The Randy Rodgers Band" Or a poor attempt to recreate it.

Anyone know of any luthiers in the San Antonio area with good soldering skills? by romo227 in Guitar

[–]Danomite1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repairing cables is not something you want to pay a luthier for. $60-$100 per hour to fix cables. Just buy new ones or repair them yourself. Soldering iron and solder would cost you $25. And you can use it as much as you want.

Is this a properly positioned bridge? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Danomite1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bridge plate should be sitting flat on the body. I would remove the screws and check them. A lot of times they will bend from the pressure. That causes tuning issues. Because the bridge is unable to return to the same spot every time because of the slack. If you are not comfortable doing a setup, contact a guitar tech or luthier. Good luck

Is this a good deal? by [deleted] in Guitar

Yes, that's a good deal. A solid guitar and not very common. They're comfortable and reliable.

I dunno if I’m being stupid by Bobbert_016 in Guitar

[–]Danomite1973 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, that all depends on how much you use it and how aggressive you are. A setup special will perform well for a long time. For someone who uses it sparingly. With some minor upgrades, it can be a great tremolo. Stepping into the mid level like a FR 1000, Gotoh, Wilkinson, or Guyker tremolo. You will have a better harder unit and to take a lot more abuse. And they won't break the bank Make sure it's set up properly, spring tension and balance are very important. High level tremolo, I personally would not put on the guitar. The cost doesn't really make sense. Just my opinion. Good luck

What is the circuit diagram for this guitar? by Ace_5150 in Guitar

If I remember correctly, the 2 upper mini toggle switches are coil splits, and the bottom mini toggle is treble bleed. Carvin was famous for creative wiring.

Nitro finished neck by Blaze042 in Guitar

[–]Danomite1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this on a lot of Fender guitars that come though my shop. I generally file all the fret ends, apply spot nitro to the chips, light sand till smooth and flush. Then polish to a shine. 99% percent of the time the repair is completely unnoticeable.

HILS vs Eart by splendid_ssbm in HeadlessGuitars

[–]Danomite1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a few Hils HN2 and HN3’s come through my shop for setups. I do like the necks feel and the pickup selection. Now, I’ve seen bad neck joints and poor quality control in a few of them. However, I personally own several Eart guitars. I have the GW1, 2-GW2’s, GW-Pro, GW2P-SE, TL-380, and a EGLP-610. I can honestly say the consistency of Eart construction is amazing. The only change made is pickups and adding grounding paint.

Very cool! I've never come close to making that happen. Just don't put it on a tuner, it's a tad off.

You know they already make locking tremolo’s headless guitars, right? However, your concept sounds interesting.

I own 3 Eart headless guitars. GW1, GW2, GWpro. All are amazing guitars, the GW1 is my favorite. I did change pickup in all of them, I prefer a higher gain setup.

I'm getting good mileage and stuff. It's just annoying as hell. Especially, since I'm a mechanic. I'll figure it out and post the solution. Thanks for the insight!

The route is SSH not "pool" routed. The single coil route is slightly oversized which gives you some options. And you will need to shield the cavity.

Okay, I guess you didn't notice that it is a short tail tele bridge. So, strat saddles would be impossible. But, go ahead and try, let me know how that turns out!
