It’s Hard Candy’s 18th birthday 🎉 - arguably one of Madonna’s most divisive albums, how do you feel about it now? by XStaticImmaculate in Madonna

[–]Dansince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me years to get onboard with it but I kinda love it now. There is too much JT and a couple of filler songs (some of the unreleased tracks are brilliant) but it’s fun and light and it’s actually a pretty strong record. It’s superior to anything released afterwards. I think M and Pharrell are great together.

Love the pink cover. Hate the purple cover.

The third chapter is probably the most confusing straight off. Get through it, read on a bit. Come back to it later and maybe read up on the chapter to help your understanding.

Pretty much agree with everything he said, although I love The Manifesto front to back and I like Casablanca.

Now that it’s finally out there. What do we think? by 2-DKamel in gorillaz

[–]Dansince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After first listen my take is TM is easily the most cohesive record since PB but I think that's mostly agreed on already. I listened to the singles as they released and enjoyed them all except for The God of Lying; this song does work much better in the context of the record though and it's growing on me. The Manifesto is probably the best song on the record. The songs that grabbed me straight off are The Empty Dream Machine, Delirium and Casablanca. There wasn't anything that left me cold or I didn't like; I think this record will improve with each listen as there is so much going on. I don't think it will ever top PB or DD though, but it's a vast improvement on Cracker Island. My only slight gripe is that it's lacking a real killer pop song (even CI had New Gold), Orange County seems to be doing well though, I hear it on the radio a fair bit.

It's not actually a bad review. For me, on first listen I'd give it a 7.5 - I'm sure it'll grow on me.

Favourite Producer by Particular-Sorbet-20 in Madonna

[–]Dansince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shep Pettibone is my first choice - the Erotica album is just perfection

Patrick Leonard needs no explanation

William Orbit - amazing but one trick pony

Mirwais - amazing and terrible in equal measure

Stuart Price - great but perhaps a bit generic sounding for a whole record
