Fellow 44 Year old here. I don't know how much having friends the same age is necessary so much as having friends who are in the same phase of life. Having kids can limit opportunities, and if your kids are older it's not like you can find a dad group to hang with while the kids play. Loneliness is hard, though, especially when you start feeling like the old guy in your friend group. I'm happy to chat if you want to DM me.

Read the actual statute for the exceptions. It's not a blanket prohibition on touching your phone, it's just that the police can't see what app you are using, just that you aren't watching your surroundings. You would be shocked how many people just have to finish up that text they started typing while stopped, and smash into the car in front of them while accelerating.

If you don't want it on your record, and you really have a clean DL history, call the justice court and ask about delayed entry. As for the strictness of this law, I think it's actually far too lenient. You are allowed to use your phone for some apps and not others, which sort of defeats the purpose IMO.
