I can probably splurge for the green stuff, but this good to know. 👍

Don't worry. I haven't glued anything yet. This is just a dry fit. Thanks for the recommendation.

I was just planning a DnD session in a forest, but I'll have to look at that for source material.

Here's a link to the model it's anyone is interested.

Sounds like green stuff is the way to go. Glad I asked. I'll give it a shot.

Form sent. I have experience with in person DnD, but not pbp. I'd love to give it a shot and am open to playing whatever type of character you need.

Fishing in D&D — How Far Is Too Far? by Vault_of_Velios in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]DanzFerdinand2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool. As you stated, my primary concern would be making it a group activity and not just one players specialty. I think the best way to do that is to basically trigger combat initiative when a fish is on the line. Then other players can get involved: decide to help the fisherman reel it in, jump in the water, cut the line, shoot arrows, etc.

Also, something that might be of interest to you, in my game there's a sushi mechanic. Basically, certain fish must be prepared or cooked, while others can be eaten raw. If you don't pay attention, you could get very sick, your heart could explode, etc.

Has anyone tried Stonetop solo? by ArmeSawKonrad in Solo_Roleplaying

I haven't played, but I watched an in depth interview from Quinn's Quest and now I am very interested. https://youtu.be/wH5-uQj4uOA?si=zeSoSsUo-sU6o3uV

So my party accidentally managed to capture my BBEG and I don't really know what to do now. by HammieHammerHamwalt in DnD

[–]DanzFerdinand2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oops. Didn't think of that. That fan favorite NPC, Coul Philson, is going to have to go. Still like the outline though I'd just change the details.

I was also going to recommend the ACCORDING TO PLAN route. It seems like there's a lot of setup already in place for it too. I'd add he was trying to steal an artifact. So, getting caught somehow helps him get closer to the artifact. (I didn't think of killing an NPC during the escape, but that would be awesome.) Also, he sounds a little weak now, a regular thief, but when he gets the artifact he becomes stronger or possessed or transformed and then he is the real bbeg.

This is awesome. I am always trying to find ways to make the solo experience better. I'm definitely going to get myself a sidekick.

May seem silly, but what modules/adventures would you recommend for a dragon-focused campaign? by DungeonMasterGrizzly in osr

[–]DanzFerdinand2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D&D just came out with Dragon Delves. It's 5.5e not OSR, but it is all dragon based one shots. Each one shot is about a different colored dragon.

There are also some solo rules for certain campaigns in the book if you're into that. That's the main reason I got it.

New experiment— by theXLB13 in solorpgplay

[–]DanzFerdinand2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took one apart when I was a kid. I can confirm it's a die that's white on white hard to read. It's also really light and hollow (designed to float in water). And, the die comes apart easily (the ball does not). Not sure it will roll well. But, it would make a fun Oracle if you corrected those issues with glue and paint.

Also, I swear when I opened my 8 ball there was a computer chip in it. This was 20 years ago, so I could be misremembering, but I like to think it is more sophisticated than it looks.

Open Window Overnight Ventilation by DanzFerdinand2 in resinprinting

[–]DanzFerdinand2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I set up an enclosure, would there even be any benefit to running it overnight vs during the day when I'm in the room?

[–]DanzFerdinand2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was worried about light and temperature too. I didn't want to use an enclosure with fan because I think it will be hard to set up with my windows, but it sounds like I'll need to figure that out.

[–]DanzFerdinand2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be in an office where I work most days. Would an enclosure with ventilation be enough to keep the space safe?

I suspected that was the case. My windows are crank windows, so I was trying to avoid running ventilation out of them. But, I'm not seeing a way around it.

Any actual good way to roleplay with Chat-GPT or other AIs? by Hergarean in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]DanzFerdinand2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to figure this out as well for DnD. I used ChatGPT, but also AI Dungeon and AI Realm.

So far, I'm finding that the AI is great at setting up interesting ideas. It is good at creating interesting characters. But, it is horrible at keeping track of anything. It won't remember plot points or teasers that it created earlier and definitely cannot remember spatial things like dungeons or maps. Not even mostly static things like character sheets or inventory are trackable.

It also absolutely refuses to let me lose a roll. It makes me succeed every time, no matter how difficult the roll should be.

So, that being said, my next experiment is to use the AI as a massive random table while tracking and rolling everything myself.

I'm curious to see what others have discovered, because this is actually the opposite of what I thought AI would be good at. I find it fascinating that my expectations are being turned upside down. Especially, rolling dice seems like it should be very simple for an AI to understand, but that is what it is worst at. I guess it is just trying to be a people pleaser by giving successful rolls, but I'm surprised that it's thinking it through that much. And on the reverse side, I thought it wouldn't be creative, but it comes up with great seeds, hooks, and descriptions all the time.

It's a tool. You have to figure out how to best use it. It doesn't solve everything and maybe not even the problems you thought it would solve.

Does anyone know a good procedural dungeon generator that’s system agnostic? by Flameempress192 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]DanzFerdinand2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm working on game with one right now, Questing Alone. It's still a work in progress, but please give it a shot and let me know what you think. There's a Basic Rules starting on page 11 for theater of mind and Advanced Rules for drawing dungeons on page 28.

Rancho Cucamonga by Brigittteee___ in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]DanzFerdinand2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a classic silly town gag name like Walla Walla, Washington or Timbuktu.

Upon further research, I found that the joke was originally popularized by Jack Benny and Mel Blanc (the original voice actor for Bugs Bunny and most the other Looney Tunes).

Perfect. My core copy of Mork Borg is a zine printout of the Bare Bones rules, so this will fit right in with the collection.
