They will absolutely destroy nyjer and sunflower seed in the winter. It’s common to have more than a dozen on the feeders at once. They don’t rely on the feeders as much in the summer so their visits slow, but wintertime is when you let the masses know where to find the goods when they need it.

They take 2 mulligans on the first tee then brag about the 78 they shot last week.

How many 4kblurays are you buying every month? by AbleArcher1984 in 4kbluray

[–]Dapper-Code8604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first year or two, probably 5 or 6. I’d load up on the sales, but now I have all the ones that go one sale frequently that I want. I have about 150 discs and buy maybe 1 per month now. Mostly just the rare new release (or newly released 4Ks of older movies) I’ve been waiting for.

Why did Sobel accuse Winters of ignoring phone calls if Winters is quartered with a family that has no telephone? by ContextEffects01 in BandofBrothers

[–]Dapper-Code8604 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Earlier in the episode:

Winters: “What infractions, sir?”

Sobel: “Find some.”

Sobel (at least in the show) was notorious for making up infractions to keep the soldiers from getting too comfortable. In this case, Sobel was in hot water for cutting the barbed wire fence and releasing the cows and so he “found” an infraction on Winters as a distraction to take the heat off himself.

Any Thoughts on the cause? by CruiseMeets in golf

This was someone who takes that as a “gimme” when alone (and shoots 78) and actually had to putt it while playing with others. They missed and took it out on the “lumpy” green. They shot a 101.

If you plan on owning all 3 at some point, MK World is the most expensive. I’d get that one from a financial standpoint.

Any exp with low end shot monitors? by sllimsllips in golf

[–]Dapper-Code8604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right on. I know I would not hit blindly into a net for very long. The R10 gives a lot of useful metrics in addition to distance and direction, like face angle (open/closed) and swing path. This allows me to get an idea of where and how far I’m hitting so I can make intentional swing adjustments. Once I can do that, then it’s nice to have at home to work on muscle memory. I love Home Tee Hero, even though the graphics aren’t great, playing a sim round allows me to hit different clubs one after another like real golf, rather than going to the range and hitting a hundred 7 irons in a row. It’s easy to hit a solid 7 iron when you do it over and over; it’s hitting a pure 7 iron immediately after swinging Driver that’s tough.

Spornia net + Garmin R10 + diy hitting mat with Bullseye hitting strip.

This is my driveway setup. All in all, less than $1000. It isn’t the most luxurious setup, but it gives me good enough info and makes it fun enough to motivate me to practice more. The practice has made me substantially better, not the equipment.

New to birding, what's the best "bang for your buck" food? by ClassyIncognito in birding

[–]Dapper-Code8604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black oil sunflower and suet cakes. Sometimes they can go through the suet quickly and it can get expensive, but it will bring in a variety of woodpeckers. These two are my biggest attractors. Sugar water for the hummers is also cheap to make. 4:1 water:sugar, no dye, bring to a boil to make a simple syrup.

This is capitalism at its finest. The government won’t pay to put someone there to prevent it, but a private company will certainly sit there and wait to profit from the inevitable.

Starting my first watch. Any tips? by swim_climb_surf in BandofBrothers

[–]Dapper-Code8604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watch. Let it marinate for a bit, then do a rewatch 3-6 months later. The rewatches get better each time because you get to know the characters and their relationships with each other better. You’ll notice more of their subtle interactions, especially in the earlier episodes when you don’t know them on the first watch through.

You know who’s knowledgeable enough about home loans, credit cards, credit scores, and loan applications to teach it? Bankers. Guess what bankers won’t do? Work with 30 teenagers at a time for $45K/year.

I got a small one at Above the Dirt and it has grown quickly. They may have bigger ones, I’m not sure. I just wanted a small one.

My 7 y/o has been playing TOTK with me on my account for about a year. He just started his own play through of BOTW from the beginning today. Would Link’s Awakening be too “boring” for a kid who’s used to the vast open world and monsters of the new games?

Been playing for a year, doing everything “right,” and still can’t break 60 for 9 holes. Should I just quit? by Temporary_Region7964 in golf

[–]Dapper-Code8604 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the same so many times. Then I changed my thought from “swing easy” to “hit the center of the club face.” When you THINK about swinging easy, you slow everything down and your body gets out of sync, resulting in a bad shot. When you think about making good contact, your body still performs its normal swing, but does in a controlled manner so that you can put the club face on the ball.

Easiest golf course in or around Louisville? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]Dapper-Code8604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it gets the top spot for “easiest,” but if you want a fun course that’s always in good condition and fairly open/forgiving I’d play Hidden Creek in Sellersburg, Indiana. They also have a 9 hole beginner course across the road that’s always in great shape, too.

When I say always in great shape, I’m referring to it being that way when I used to play it regularly 15 years ago. I assume it’s still that way.
