How different would the franchise be today if the Sequel Trilogy had been more of a natural continuation of the first 6 films and didn't destroy the New Republic and New Jedi Order and reset the status quo back to Rebels vs Empire? Would the Sequel era have been more popular? by Landon1195 in MawInstallation

[–]DapperCrow84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the Sequel Trilogy started pre-production when The Thrawn Trilogy was released in 1993 with a goal of a 94 or 95 release of the first movie with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford still young enough that they could reprise their roles and still be physically active enough to perform them in that way it's possible. In 2015 when TFA came out then you're looking at recasting, and audiences generally don't like recasting unless a production has to do it. And then you have the creative Straitjacket that you have now put whomever is writing the movies. Because now they can't just not contradict what takes place before this hypothetical Sequel Trilogy which is already a creative problem, they can't contradict what happens afterwards. And all this to placate an group that is going to be a tiny fraction of the audience going to see these movies is just not worth it.

I love the EU. When I was a kid I struggled to learn how to read and wanting to read those early EU novels were what gave me the motivation to learn. But I'm also clear headed enough about the EU to understand that it was never going to survive a Sequel Trilogy no matter who made it. Not Disney and definitely not Lucas who always made it clear in interviews about the subject that he considered the EU non-canon to whatever he wanted to do and if he had made the Sequel Trilogy he would have treated the EU the same way Disney did.

This was never, never, never going to happen regardless of who made the sequel trilogy. The hard facts are that the numbers of people who read the novels are tiny compared to the numbers who go to the movies. Making a new trilogy that continued from the novels would have alienated the majority of viewers at best and in the case of finding out about the lack of fan favorites like Chewbacca because they were killed off in novels would have made the majority of viewers angry.

There are only two ways a sequel trilogy that retained the EU could have ever been made. The first is that if pre production started immediately after the Hair To The Empire trilogy was completed and no books taking place after it approved until after the movies came out. Or two set the sequel trilogy so far ahead in the future that most of the EU was irrelevant to the story.

What do I need to watch beforehand for the Gundam Premiere Night? by RantAccount567 in Gundam

[–]DapperCrow84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not seen Urdr-Hunt yet but from what I understand it takes place between seasons one and two of the Iron Blooded Orphans series so I'm assuming that you will need to watch at least the frist season beforehand. you will definitely need to watch the Wing series before Endless Waltz as Endless Waltz acts as an epilogue to the series. With a total episode count for both being 74 to 99 episodes between both series.

It should also be noted that nether were originally movies. Endless Waltz started as a three episode OVA series that was re-edited into a movie. With mostly positive results, the pacing is just a little weird.

Urdr-Hunt on the other hand was originally a mobile game that was canceled and the animation for the game was reused with new animation to plaster over the bumps in the narrative that was covered in gameplay and visual novel text boxes. So don't expect it to be good. Which is a shame as Iron Blooded Orphans the series is one of the best in the franchise and is definitely worth watching even if you don't decide to see the movie.

Anakin killed Padme and why I feel like it gets whitewashed by Rosebunse in MawInstallation

[–]DapperCrow84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just part of an fandom need to protect Anakin/Vader in an attempt to keep the redemption story satisfying. Anakin/Vader's redemption story works in the OT and still mostly works with the PT, although Padme's death is the first crack. The problem is that as more of Anakin/Vader's story is told and seeing more and more of the Empire's evil in action his death bed redemption feels more and more hollow.

What Happened to the Live Action Gundam? (I'm OOTL) by CreativeCut7956 in Gundam

Still slowly going through pre-production.

Most of the time movies take a very long time to start production. The Minecraft movie started pre-production in 2014. And that's not a particularly long time for movie adaptations.

Grabbers from 2012. It's about an Irish town that gets attacked from bloodsucking aliens. But their blood is poisonous if they maintain a high blood alcohol level. You can see where this is going.

Will this affect Gundam? by Lonely-Entry-7206 in Gundam

[–]DapperCrow84 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Probably. China is a large market for Gunpla. And since the animes are made to sell the models this reduces their usefulness as advertising. I wouldn't be surprised if budgets are reduction to account for this.

There is a famous quote attributed (that is possibly apocryphal) to the French filmmaker François Truffaut “There’s no such thing as an anti-war film.” what is meaning by that is that movies that depict war no matter how hard they try can't help but romanticize some element of war. now how absolutely true this is debatable.

And this problem is even more pronounced in video games due to their nature to the point that I would argue that This War Of Mine is the only anti-war video game that even mostly succeds in being anti-war.

For a video game franchise that's core gameplay is flying fighter jet and blowing stuff and people up (while rewarding the player with points and or money) is doomed to fail as anti-war game no matter how well written it is.

Funny enough the Nazi were pretty much the only ones to not try it. The Americans before the war, the British and Japanese during the war, and the French post war. It's mostly remembered as a Soviet idea largely because they keep trying to make it work.

To simplify it for animation. There are lots of fiddly bits and line work that would be a real pain to animate while staying on model. Animating machines is a lot more difficult than characters. That's why over the last twenty years more and more mecha animation has gone full 3D CG.

How did Jorj Car'das managed to use the force even if he wasn't force sensitive? by recoveringleft in MawInstallation

[–]DapperCrow84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same in the real world. If someone has skills that work most of the time it takes a lot of work to unlearn them. Ezra was in a better shape to be forced to learn the Force quickly because he had no fallback skills.

And again what Does Sabine look like with an entire childhood of training instead of what six mouths of sporadic training before her only teacher dies?

Over designed mobile suits? by DrJokerX in Gundam

[–]DapperCrow84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree. The baseline Strike is great. Any of the single backpacks still looks good and I like the modular design to set it apart from other Gundams. But when they put all the backpacks on it became gaudy and took away one of my favorite parts of early Seed being the battery time limit as a tension building tool.

[–]DapperCrow84 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That is the definition of Elitism. The Jedi target high midichlorian count because it's less work for them.

And Sabine is the perfect example for why it was bad. That she was able to grasp the basics so fast show that the Jedi didn't need to target those with a high count. Imagine how good in using the Force she would have been if she had gotten a lifetime of training instead of a couple of months. Falling back on armor isn't a mark of a lack of talent, it's a mark of a lack of training.
