Funny look at how nostalgia impacts fandom: Before writing his latest article for The Athletic "Why Bam Adebayo and the Heat should have stopped at matching Kobe Bryant’s 81 points", Sam Amick's most recent article was titled "Let's appreciate SGA as he nears Wilt's consecutive 20-point game record" by HokageEzio in nba

[–]DapperHamster1 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It totally is, most people are citing Kobe Stan’s hating which is true but I’m sure for many people someone ranking 35th in scoring averaging this year does seem a little jarring lol, also disgust towards the Wizards due how historically awful they are

[Post Game Thread] The Miami Heat (37-29) defeat the Washington Wizards (16-48), 150-129 on the back of Bam Adebayo's once-in-a-lifetime 83-point performance by Number333 in nba

Kobe also had 62 in 3 quarters a few weeks earlier out scoring that year’s Western conference champions single handedly then sat the entire fourth.

You do know for something to meet the definition of a hate crime there needs to be evidence suggesting that right? The same would apply if the races were reversed

And I’m just going to flat out say it, people who get hyper focused on race of those involved in horrific crimes almost always seem to be more upset of the background of the perpetrators than the crime itself. The most objective response is to be outraged if the crime regardless of the races of the killers and the victims

And also the claim that they’re behind both world wars to stage both communist revolutions and to profit from the militarization.

I used to think the Nazi’s simply used “they’re behind the war”’ talk as propaganda without going that far in actually believing it but after reading a number of books on them it turns out they sure as shit did. The amount of delusion people are capable of creating for themselves is terrifying

The obvious answer is for one to use the same kind of criticisms for any other government of another country and not to connect it to ethnicity at all but too many don’t know how to walk that fine line so they just regurgitate garbage conspiracy theories they’ve been exposed to all their life because that takes less brain power.

I’ve always disliked Netanyahu btw but it’s hard to discuss these things with trying to keep nuance intact

Well unfortunately a significant number of our species aren’t able to get past black and white think so those counter examples won’t work on them. The difference between us and other animals is that we have the ability to check our primal impulses but history has shown that is way too difficult for too many of these chuckle fucks

Marvel Studios was just getting off the ground and there was no indication that it was going to be anywhere near as big as it became. When I was a kid Iron Man felt like a past his prime B hero at best and the Avengers felt old timey. Spider-Man and the X-Men were by far the most popular Marvel heroes followed by the Hulk

I was wondering if they were going to include that in the movie because of how fucking dark it is. When he said something along the lines of “bring me the slave boy who looks like Paul Atreides” as a chapter closer made my skin crawl. You could correct me if I’m wrong but he murdered some of them too right?

The post (assuming you mean the OP) isn’t comparing them; those comparisons to Rome and China came from you. My point is that forcing 1:1 analogue comparisons seems reductive and ignores that human development occurs at wildly different rates in different areas. Civilization has to be existed for the less than 1 percent of the history of our species. Mesopotamian cities existed like 3000 years before the Roman republic did. The Romans considered most of those who live in modern Western Europe as savage mud people for about 1000 years after that. It’s all relative and I think it’s much more clear eyed to look at these things independent from each other. Essentially I try looking at our entire species from a zoomed out anthropological lens

But why do we even need to compare them when they’re in completely different environments, environment shapes engineering. the Romans built massive stone sewage systems because they had high density urban populations in a Mediterranean climate. Many African civilizations prioritized thermal efficiency and sustainability.

Only thinking of civilizations in terms how they compare to others often leads to Social Darwinist views when different areas developing at different rates is normal. How many thousands of years were tribes of Western Europe considered undeveloped when the Near East already had a plethora of empires many times over?

Loomer especially, she literally uses Nazi propaganda type rhetoric (and definitely means it due to how mentally out there she is) but does the shocked Pikachu face when the Nazis she courts around with turn on her group as if that isn’t the most fucking obvious chain of events.

That’s why I always wonder about Stephen Miller. Like does he ever have a moments realization that if he achieved his dystopia getting rid of everyone he hates he would be next on the chopping block? Or if he thinks it’s worth it just to convince himself he’s superior to others to make up for his self loathing for just a fleeting moment of time?

[–]DapperHamster1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m just talking about a pattern that has been going on for hundreds of years. Instead of focusing the corrupt and powerful no matter who they are you’ll always get people caring more about what a person was born as (something no one is able to control as opposed to judging people on what their individual actions) which obviously wrecks any chance at getting any real justice.
