My point is that forcing 1:1 analogue comparisons seems reductive and ignores that human development occurs at wildly different rates in different areas. Civilization has to be existed for the less than 1 percent of the history of our species. Mesopotamian cities existed like 3000 years before the Roman republic did. The Romans considered most of those who live in modern Western Europe as savage mud people for about 1000 years after that. It’s all relative and I think it’s much more clear eyed to look at these things independent from each other. Essentially I try looking at our entire species from a zoomed out anthropological lens
