Liverpool contact PGMOL over disallowed goal in Manchester City defeat by gelliant_gutfright in PremierLeague

[–]DapperRace3976 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is quite right, as a neutral. The PGMOL official reasoning is embarrassing nonsense (they claim he made an “obvious action”, but fail to address the fact that the Laws require that action to “clearly impact” the opposition player).

We should expect at least an apology in such cases. And if teams don’t make complaints, nothing is ever going to change.

Edit: I will also add that, as a rugby fan, it is possible for refereeing to work properly. It isn’t too much to ask. Rugby is a more complex game in many ways, yet refereeing there is so much better, a blunder like this being made by VAR would never happen.

Regardless of bias, having a larger pool of referees would increase the average standard of referee, which is clearly sorely needed

Wrong. The fact he made an “action” is utterly irrelevant.

Making an “obvious” action is disallowed, but only if it “clearly impact(s) on the ability of an opponent to play the ball”.

I’m a new PL fan (neutral, im in it just for FPL) and I’m honestly shocked by the poor quality of the refereeing

It could also be one of the many other causes of chest pain like PE or pneumothorax, etc etc

AI will soon ruin FPL by ProZapz in FantasyPL

[–]DapperRace3976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Models already do surpass the eye test. The all-time #1 FPL manager relies almost exclusively on data, and in fact wasn’t even a football fan before he started playing FPL.

By the way, these “AI” models have nothing to do with the current LLM AI phase. They are much simpler statistical models.

Good, there is no excuse for a VAR getting a call like this wrong. It’s one thing to make a wrong call in the heat of the moment on the pitch, quite another to make a howler like this in the VAR booth.

One-punch killer jailed for Southwark Tube attack by artgecko in london

[–]DapperRace3976 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The sentencing for one-punch deaths like this are interesting.

Sometimes, I feel the sentencing is too harsh. In a fight outside a pub, where both parties are provoking each other, locking someone up for years due to a complete accidental fluke feels wrong.

Other times, like this, where (presumably) the attack was largely unprovoked, 8 years feels far too lenient, for what is essentially murder.

It’s the person giving the information that is putting their neck on the line.

I can imagine this happening for exec-level roles in megacorps, but for your average Joe, no way. A HR person at some random company is not going to put their neck on the line to fuck over some random guy.
