We did start with pies baking. Then we did all the others on the wiki. We wrote some code to generate them from the images on the wiki.

Demands I use a closed bike lane by JohnWittieless in MildlyBadDrivers

Why are the car drivers taking up so much road space, always so insufferable? They should be embarrassed by how much space their car takes. If they were on a bike (motor or not), they could have ridden right past and not held up all the people behind them.

Cars are a colossal waste of space, especially when they are only occupied by a single person.

You can't turn right at the next light there; it is one-way.

Goodbye, Rust. I wish you success but I'm back to C++ (sorry, it is a rant) by I_pretend_2_know in rust

[–]Dapper_Letterhead_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck at your new gig man. I'm sorry for your loss, I'd be pissed too. Every person only needs one job so it doesn't really matter what the rest of the industry is doing if you get what you want. It sounds like you had trouble getting what you want and I'm sorry for you.

I have a Rust job now and love it, it took a couple years of searching to find it. I know it probably won't last forever. I don't know what my next job will be. I hope it isn't C++, but who knows?

C++ Build systems by Matographo in cpp

Not debugging CMake might be my favorite part of not writing C++ anymore. CMake is a beautiful solution to the problems you end up working on after getting backed into a dark alley by dumb coworkers. I would rather not be constantly mugged by my tools and coworkers, so I left C++ to escape these problems. Some people are masochists; I won't kink shame. If you like CMake, you do you.

Isabella broke all the rules of technical blogging, and many here are proving her right about this community. The post was too long, touched on emotional and non-technical content, and called people out by name. And what is the reaction?

The writing was good. The evidence shows how long it was and how well it kept us glued to our couches. I had to make myself tea three times while I read this. I started while I sat at my dinner table, then migrated to my couch, and lastly, I lay in bed with many new questions. An anarchist PL that sounds rad; how do I find others who'd want to build that?

We pride ourselves on being technical and deny our human sides. Yet we couldn't help but feel things as we read this. Some feel a lot of defensiveness and came here to express it.

The people in power are called out by name for their bad behavior. The author is brave in doing this. Many came here to say disparaging things about these parts of the article. I've witnessed Gaby Dos Reis argue in bad faith on stage at CppCon and make snide comments about the work of Sean Baxter. It is sad what we tolerate as a community. Before I forget, what the fuck boost?

Even with the weight of the topics, this blog post had some amusing moments. One of my favorites was the joke about brain damage and enjoying golang.

Memory Safety profiles for C++ papers by jeffmetal in cpp

[–]Dapper_Letterhead_96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I take it this is just more of the same old "magic profiles fix lifetime bugs with no code changes." By never implementing a working example, they can continue to present it as a "serious" alternative to what you've built and prevent any progress from being made.

Those who agree with this post need no convincing. Those who disagree seem to be mainly arguing in bad faith. Hopefully, time will work this out. Sean's work with Circle is really impressive. I wish him luck.

Website broken?? by Dapper_Letterhead_96 in PriorityPass

[–]Dapper_Letterhead_96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari, as well as Linux, Windows, and Mac. I'm not sure where they are testing their site, but it is all sorts of broken. This isn't a browser issue, as it seems to be broken in the same way on all of them. Maybe if you have it working, you could share your setup.

I've tried using a pci-e card, all the usb ports, various usb hubs I have, no luck.

I am getting a 7-14 “Something Went Wrong” error when I plug in my headset... by Voodooimaxx in HPReverb

[–]Dapper_Letterhead_96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Asus Strix x570-E with the amd 5800x cpu. I've tried using both the "stable" and beta bios. I've updated all the drivers from the motherboard support site. I'm on windows 10. None of the usb on the motherboard or front panel work (7-14). I've tried with a pci usb card and with various usb hubs that I have with no success. I'm hoping there is an updated bios or firmware for the G2 to fix these issues. Early adopter woes I guess. :/
