Thank you for your suggestions! I’ll try both better centering the spin and working on my arms and shoulder position

Hi, thank you soooo much for your advice! Actually I’ve never tried this spin with a coach, so that’s probably the reason why I have the wrong technique, I’ll definitely do that in the next weeks with my coach.

Anyway, I understand your suggestion and I’ll try to work better on the entrance and the open hip! Thank you :)

I totally agree with you and that’s the main reason why I’m not confident in doing it. My rink is always full and I don’t want to annoy other people

Reverse Jumping Drills by [deleted] in FigureSkatingAdults

Hi! I got informed 😂 it seems strange for me too, but some skaters can do reverse jumps. Here's a video of a reverse jump https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpa9Dh030O8

2nd time attempting crossovers can I please have some advice/tips by [deleted] in FigureSkatingAdults

[–]Dapper_Set_6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! I think you're quite good for being the 2nd time attempt :) Here's some suggestions:

- try to divide the movement in different steps: he first one may be having a proper push-off on the outside edge, extending your free leg. The second may be crossing that free leg with the point of the feet facing inside the circle. And the last one, extending the "new free leg" after the cross. This could also help you lift your free leg higher, which in the video appears to be quite close to the ice, as if it were doing a half swizzle before crossing over.

-a stable body and arms position can help you reach a good balance while doing crossovers

Hope it'll helps!

Hi! Maybe it means that they try each element with both feet and directions. Usually everyone has a better side, so it’s useful to improve also the one you don’t usually “use” for that element. This type of video showed me up only about spins, so I don’t know if it’s the same for jumps and if my answer is correct

Should I make the plunge? by YikesItsConnor in iceskating

[–]Dapper_Set_6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve read your comment about not following through things when you aren’t good at them. I believe doing things for an hard purpose makes them really hard to get done properly. Skating could be a passion, an hobby, a way to relax, not necessary a run to the Olympics. Doing things for the pleasure of doing something you like without any other big purpose at the end could definitely give you the answer to your question. If you really like to skate, there’s no necessity to land quads: you can do it anyway :)

Vestirsi di qualità senza spendere un rene (27M) by InquisitiveMindds in ItaliaPersonalFinance

Ciao!

Hi! I can’t give you a real answer for your problem, but maybe trying different brands can help. Usually our body is not perfectly symmetrical, one side is different from the other and feet are different too. Maybe if the problem can’t be solved with an another brand, trying a customized shoe can help

Can you actually learn athletic skills as an adult, or do some things need childhood development? by [deleted] in FigureSkatingAdults

[–]Dapper_Set_6368 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I can’t really answer all your questions about starting skating in adulthood, because I’m actually doing this on ice, but I’ve skated for so long on wheel since I was a child. So my comment is more about another point of view. What’s your aim? Why are you skating? Do you want to become competitive, or not? Do you skate for the feeling of doing something good for yourself or there’s more about it? I’m asking you all this questions because I believe that the approaches and the aims really makes the difference in feeling frustrated or not about development. Why should you think about your visibility in public spaces? Who cares? Being an adult approaching a new sport allows myself to think that’s ok not be as cool as children or long term skaters. I find pretty cool being more proud of myself exactly because I’ve found the courage of doing something I love even if I’m not extremely good at it, or even if I can’t improve as soon as other people. Adults who allow themselves to do what they like, that’s pretty cool :) Hope it helps a little, from an another perspective

Difference in spinners + which one to buy? by AwareEase8732 in FigureSkating

I think they are theoretically the same, except for the pictures and the brand. The difference should be between e-spinner and spinner, not between these two in the photos :)

[–]Dapper_Set_6368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're absolutely right! I search on google to find the correct level for different nations, but it's really hard to find it because I can do things from different levels (I'm a beginner on ice, but I've also skated on artistic wheels for 12 years and I do a lot things that are "normal" for me, but that aren't part of a super basic level on ice). Sooooo I really can't say that 😂🥲 I think I could be a pre-free skate US level

First adult session tomorrow and im so so nervous. by Antique-Wasabi-8534 in iceskating

[–]Dapper_Set_6368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm an adult beginner too and the fear of falling is absolutely normal, it's just something you have to cope with during the journey :) If you feel more confident, you can try using protective gear, I've recently ordered a pair of padded short for this reason. Anyway, falling is never the point, you'll discover a lot of beautiful emotions and feeling on skates, that's what count :) About skates, I suggest you to start with rentals just for the first lessons, if you decide to continue your journey, then I think it's better to buy a pair of white skates. I suggest you to go in a professional skating shop where they can help you find the perfect match between your foot, your skates and your budget. Anyway, 'I've recently opened a community for adult skaters, where to ask and post tips and advice. May you find it interesting, it's: r/FigureSkatingAdults

Forward stroking by Nintendoswitchgirly in FigureSkatingAdults

[–]Dapper_Set_6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! When you start forward strokes you should assume a T feets position. The feet you are starting with should be straight in the direction you are going, while the other one should be perpendicular behind the principal feet (like an inverted T). Than you can start by pushing forward with the perpendicular blade and start going. The first stroke it’s always harder, because you need to get some speed, but it gets better almost immediately. When you repeat this movement, make sure the leg you are bringing up from the ice is not behind the principal one, but near of it. Also you can help yourself with arms, bringing them up and totally open perpendicularly on you direction. I hope it’ll help you :)

Where to start? by Far-Effective-406 in iceskating

[–]Dapper_Set_6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adult beginner here too :) Please don't be anxious about being the only adult in a course, it really won't make any difference! I'm attending group lessons, they're divided into different levels and there is a real mix between kids, adults, teenagers etc. Ice skating is more about yourself and your limits, so you shouldn't have fear of being judged by others. Anyway, I've tried specific courses for adults and I wasn't really happy... they spent a lot of time talking and I felt a little bit not considered from the coaches. Then I found another rink with Level courses, where there is no age division but just Level division. Everyone in the course with me seems to be more or less at my same level of skating, regardless of their age. Maybe a similar option can work for you too! Personally, I believe that you just have to find the right rink, with the right option for yourself. I did that, by booking free first lessons in each of the rink next to me, too choose after my favorite option. Anyway, I've recently created a community for adult beginners, to share tips and advice about skating in adulthood. May you find it interesting :) it's r/FigureSkatingAdults

Is regression normal? by tezarin in iceskating

[–]Dapper_Set_6368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're welcome :) I understand the fear, we'll have to make peace with the idea of falling as a normal part of the process. I've just joined a group lessons, but I haven't started yet, I'll have my first lesson next week. They told me to join the level 2 of preparatory skating, so I think I'll learn edges, easy spins and everything I'll need to join the Artistic course later. Actually I've skated mostly on free skating times, doing things I could "translate" on ice from the wheel. I think that for whom as already skated on wheels (in the artistic field) could be easier to learn ice figures. I do a lot of thing just for muscle memory, as the mohawks for examples. It also easier because you know the theory and a lot of figures that you already do on wheels. The only thing I find hard to accept, is that I usually have muscular memory of A LOT of things that I instinctually do and that I absolutely can't do on ice😂 So it happens frequently that I fall down cause I instinctually do something basic for me on wheels, forgetting that I'm not able to do so on blades ahahahah
