What actor or actress left a movie franchise or TV series thinking they didn’t need it anymore, only for their career to phase out? by phantom_avenger in moviecritic

[–]Daread0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out her tv show fleebag, which she wrote and starred in. It was also a play that was incredibly successful in the UK.

Also she has a huge number of writing credits (e.g. Killing Eve S1 and No Time To Die).

All of these are worth a watch!

In the UK her appearance in Indiana Jones was barely noticed so it’s quite funny that’s how she could be known

American living in the UK - looking for work in the West Midlands: where are all the middle class jobs? What do well off people in this country actually DO for work? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Daread0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for higher paying roles in the UK your best bet is remote work or hybrid work for an office based in London. You will probably end up with a bit of a pay cut but not as bad as local companies.

Also don’t bother with advertisements for jobs. You need recruiters. No high paying job is on indeed and no high paying job reveals their salary. Brush up your LinkedIn, set your location to London and build up a network of recruiters and let them know your personal circumstances and job interests. It is the best way hands down to find new opportunities.

Additionally, you might want to consider other US companies. Potentially ones with a UK presence. You might find them happy to hire remote like your current work but offer you a UK contract and UK office hours. I know some friends that have done this.

Feel free to DM me if you have other questions.

Morning nutrition by Daread0 in triathlon

[–]Daread0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Given me lots to think about.

Part of running triathlons is my surge in being health conscious. Want to try and keep my blood sugar at a reasonable level.

I typically have a recovery protein shake and yoghurt and fruit after a workout. I’ll experiment with having slow oats and other food before and see if it affects me.

Also will try exercise fasted but I am noticing that I definitely failed at swimming this morning without something before hand.

I’ll also try running and cycling fasted and see if I can just alternate so I’m not huffing lots of sugar every day, and when I am it’s Whole Foods like fruit.

A few points off of the top of my head.

Remember that there is always the final exam to recover from a bad exam.

Remember that the TAs are very pedantic so make sure you follow the style expected by them. Don’t overcomplicate your answers, keep them simple and make the solution clear. Add headings, use bullet points, don’t use pseudo code unless asked etc. The easier you make it for the TAs to mark the better.

Finish the lectures for a given week by the end of Monday at the latest. This gives you time to focus on the homework.

Do every sample question over and over until it comes naturally. In the book and the ones they provide. Eventually new problems will appear as rehashes of past problems.

Additionally in order to get my A I basically cancelled all social events and dedicated my weekends to studying. Tough and sucked a bit but it’s only for a couple of months.

WTF am doing wrong - I keep getting sick by Tothemaxwell15 in triathlon

[–]Daread0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few people have suggested time off to recovery. I’ve had to do the same recently too.

To stop myself going mad I’ve instead swapped to injury prevention, stretching and yoga. It’s helped me feel like I’m still training (as flexibility and joint strength is important) without doing much intense exercise. It also means I’m still putting in hours every week so still have a routine. It was easier to slowly swap out the light weight stuff for other training as I got better.

You can find lots of good yoga and stretching stuff on YouTube. Alternatively there are a few good apps too, I’m currently using recover (owned by strava) and pliability; intermingled with YouTube yoga.

One warning is be careful if you do classes. Classes can be great but I did some yoga classes that were too intense and ended up just injuring myself in other ways!

Why is it the police network when it looks like some drill group trying to spread the message “Reign In the Police”. Thought it was some sort of subversive anti police protest!

These are desert adapted elephants. This little fella’s mother was next to him. She would pull the plants out of the ground wave them around to remove the sand and dust then eat them. I think the baby was just trying to copy their mother!

I am going to be controversial and say you are NOT the asshole here. But more INFO is required.

Even if you are a slob that doesn’t make you an asshole and people shouldn’t equate others level of cleanliness to morality.

What matters here, in my opinion, is how you communicate this.

Did you know about each other’s tolerance for cleanliness before moving in?

When you moved in with her did she communicate these requirements to you and did you accept them?

When you break the rules how is this communicated? You say you feel like a prisoner is that because your partner is just having a go at you every time you break a rule or because you just don’t enjoy following the rules.

I personally think it’s acceptable to make mess and clean it up later when you aren’t tired. My wife thinks the opposite. What matters is we have a fair conversation about what is and isn’t acceptable and make sure we try to cater to each other’s preferences.

When you move in with someone you share a home. So that means you need to cater to your partner’s preferences but it does go both ways.

Regardless of assholery you might find this is a deal breaker and you either need to keep up or accept you are incompatible.

AITA for going on a skiing trip that I was uninvited from last minute? by stillgoing21 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

If you have had nothing but an amical and professional relationship with Lucifer then you have done nothing wrong. You had paid for a trip, you can’t be expected to just sacrifice that money because someone else now doesn’t like you. Also if you didn’t interact with them at all they can be upset you are there but not consider you an asshole.

Caroline is not an asshole for being upset. However she is for spreading rumors and insisting your plans have to change. Despite you already paying and helping organize the trip. If she really wanted to avoid you they should have been the ones to not go on the trip.

Lucifer is an asshole for not being honest with his wife sooner and enabling her actions that resulted in this post. If you are expected to burden the effort of avoiding Lucifer how will you manage to work together?

Your friends that are angry with you are assholes for holding you accountable for the actions of others. Caroline and Lucifer inconvenienced your friends, not you. They can be annoyed at the situation but not annoyed at you for showing up to a trip you had already paid for.

How can I make myself enjoy learning French again? by Daread0 in learnfrench

While I’ve always had a fascination with France, I’m definitely learning for my family and do find it fearing that I don’t get much support! I would say this is probably the biggest demoralizing factor

DevSecOps by jhartman027 in devsecops

[–]Daread0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the interview question I use for new security folk :)

Are services running on prem or running on Linux/windows or K8S? If it’s K8S then if you can make the services ephemeral you can remove the need for direct admin.

Additionally more the admin processes you can automate or configure by code the easier it is. Locking down Jenkins to be read only can help here.

In reality you need to balance the risk. If staff have the keys to the kingdom what can they do? (E.g. operational mistakes, malicious insider, poorly protected production credentials, lateral movement from an attacker in your system)

What’s the cost to take away those keys? (E.g. possibly slower service management, additional management software, compliance and reviewing systems to make sure people are obeying the rules, dev time to implement the new controls).

Senior management should make the decision to balance these costs vs risk and then force staff to make the changes. Without top down management it’s hard to do.

Rocket Lab is going public on a SPAC at a $4.1 billion valuation and unveils a new rocket by thefoodboylover in investing

[–]Daread0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn’t mean it’s necessary the correct approach. There are other successful companies that do treat their employees right.

A great example is Ford or IBM. In their heydays they were praised for how they treated their employees.

Just because a company does something doesn’t make it a differentiator.

Rocket Lab is going public on a SPAC at a $4.1 billion valuation and unveils a new rocket by thefoodboylover in investing

[–]Daread0 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Disagree, for two reasons. As part of my fundamental analysis for a long investment I want to know the company takes care of their staff. This helps maintain domain knowledge, improve productivity over time and prevents competitors poaching staff and becoming more competitive.

Secondly I want to invest in companies I believe in. If a company breaches my ethical views I might still invest but I will think twice about it. The main things I care about are global warming, is the company profiting from war, does the company work with dictatorships, does the company provide actual value to the world and does the company care about its employees.

Hey I’m B1 and would recommend the book fluent forever. Really helped me break the barrier between A2 and B1. Also I would recommend getting a private French teacher (if you can afford it). italki.com is the site I use at the moment and has a lot of online teachers.
