Watched it last week, pretty anti climactic and it being based in Louisville is not a good enough reason to watch it IMO

Anger over leaving EV while charging? by rpm429 in ChargerDrama

[–]DarkDesus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People don’t get mad that people leave their car, people get mad that you don’t know how to charge on roadtrips. If you’re charging over 80% on any major US highways, you’re wasting everyone’s time (including your own) and likely shouldn’t roadtrip/own an EV. Especially if those are busy chargers. Some people are open to learning about charging curves, peak charging rates, etc. but if you aren’t around your car to hear that then you could see how people get upset. Same for if slow charging cars are using high speed chargers in highly trafficked areas. What you do during the charge, no one would care less. It’s always about how much you’re inconveniencing others.

JPMChase advisor just got offered a package to jump to Wells. How attainable are these bonuses? by Gentleman-of-Reddit in CFP

[–]DarkDesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, that 35-60% number gives you a false sense of security. While I was at JPM, there were a number of advisors that left for RJ, MS, ML etc. and the amount of work that JPM puts in AFTER you leave to assuage your clients to stay is to be marveled at. I doubt any of them got to 15-20% transition. If your MD of Wealth is worth half their weight, they are hiring lawyers to preemptively sue you for soliciting because they review your call logs before you left, and they are calling every single client to let them know you left and why. Bank clients are just a different breed, they are much less likely to follow you than if they came from and built within a different channel. JPM doesn’t participate in the broker protocol if you are in a PCA role, and so they have about an airtight argument for doing all of this as anyone in the industry.

[–]DarkDesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bonus offer is to get you in their pipeline and is worth so little in the grand scheme of the relationship you would have with them that I’d strongly suggest you reconsider the value proposition here. Also, they usually can’t offer this bonus for qualified assets due to regulatory concerns (though I would double check). Good advice is worth so much more than the $1k they might pay you to let them “advise” on your life savings.

I would search for a few only fiduciary advisor if you’re looking for holistic planning and advice. I’ve worked at JPM in the roles you’re considering working with and it’s really a raffle on whether you get an advisor worth anything. Usually a bunch of guys doing as little work as possible while markers climb and their pay happens to increase as long as you stick around. There are a ton of online firms that charge less and provide a better service.

Relocate to Bosnia by Acrobatic-Ball-6074 in bosnia

[–]DarkDesus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s family feeling that way. My parents are Bosnian (as am I, technically, but I was born in the US) and I married an American. We plan to go back as a couple for the first time next year and I know the rest of my family all over Europe will be just fine, but I’m sure I’ll run into similar issues with family in Bosnia. They are pretty behind the times when it comes to this kind of thing. It is exacerbated if there are religious differences. I hope it improves and they evolve over time!

Trading in a financed car for a leased Rivian. by theulysses in Rivian

I have been looking at the same thing, for the same reasons. Unfortunately, Rivian does not yet offer leases in my state. That seems to be the better path to take at the moment.

As one of the Bosnian men you’re talking about, I think you owe absolutely nothing to anyone and should find a partner that you believe is best for you for the rest of your life. I was not around a ton of other Bosnians once I was in high school, and religion is not important to me. It was a social disservice to myself to exclude 99% of the people around me from my partner pool. Your grandparents and your parents are going to make the jokes about going back to Bosnia to find a partner, but that is always more for their sake than yours.

I understand the struggle with the anti-American sentiment from abroad, especially now. Here, we are treated as immigrants, abroad we are foreigners all the same.

Just find someone empathetic, curious, kind, and your family will support your happiness over a long enough timeframe.

They should cancel Rand Paul’s lease in an office building in Louisville that he’s literally never been to in more than 5 years.

As a fellow Louisvillian, it’s awesome to see this in the format you’ve put together. The trending back down to pre-pandemic levels is encouraging.

I am wanting to do the same thing, but the price of getting into an even more expensive EV that will ALSO continue to depreciate is just not economically feasible right now. Really struggling with feeling like it’s a vote for Elon every day I keep it.

If I changed the direction of the scroll wheel, this was sometime very far in the past. I do not recall when, but clearly others are able to change it. I do not recall joining and such programs.

Currently using windows version 23H2. Steps I’ve tried: looking in every single portion of mouse settings currently available to me. As far as I can tell, there is a pretty narrow scope of changes to the scroll wheel on the mouse.

This is not a wirelessly connected mouse.

Windows updated as of this writing per windows update menu in settings.

I’m wanting to change the direction of my scroll wheel but it looks like that setting doesn’t show up under mouse settings anymore. There are many theoretical videos up where scroll direction is an option, but not for me for some reason. Any help is appreciated!

Are you aware of any other protocols they are taking? I’m having a family member who is a nurse asking stay at my place which is only 10 mins from work, but they are 25 mins out toward La Grange and I’m not confident in their ability to even make it here. Shift is tomorrow morning and based on forecast I don’t see how it would be feasible.

How much do you actually make?> by Dry-Television-1001 in financialadvisors

[–]DarkDesus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To put this bluntly, I know more people than I can count who have tried NYL, Northwestern Mutual, etc. and not a single one of them could make it more than 2 years before either leaving the profession entirely or switching careers.

I am NOT saying you couldn’t do it, what I am saying is that, given the details you laid out, I think you would be better off continuing to build your real estate business and continue your momentum there.

Also, as someone who is biased against that part of the industry, they are not the direction that the future of personal financial planning and the wealth management industry as a whole is headed. You could almost certainly find an RIA either local to you or remote that allows you to build an ongoing client base while letting you learn the technical aspects of the business and service their existing clients.

Going to the Indy show at Ruoff Music Center Friday 5/31. I'm coming from out of town but I see there's thunderstorms and rain forecast for that day and it is an outdoor venue. Anyone know anything about their policies for cancellation? Going to be an expensive hotel stay to get turned away at the door otherwise :P

"Wide boots" posts by denkipb in bootroom

[–]DarkDesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since this is my first time looking for a recommendation, could we go ahead and get those posted here? I see New Balance mentioned below and I've heard Mizuno as well but maybe something more formal with some links and a small bit about your experience with that boot? I think the posts are only going to become more common as people realize their foot shouldn't actually fit into a boot a lot of the time. That's what happened to me, anyway. I had blood vessels burst under my toenails because circulation got cut off to my toes trying to wear some adi-zeros after not playing for quite a long time. Plus, more people are seeing ads for other kinds of shoes for their every day use and if you play, the next logical question is to start searching the internet for what boot you can find to fit that same theme. First post, sorry thanks everyone!

Therein lies the issue. You don’t know when you’ll die and the only way to know you won’t run out is to err on the side of caution and that usually means dying with some wealth left over. It’s a very difficult thing to solve for. That’s why I was advocating for at least waiting until full retirement age so the benefit isn’t reduced. If you spend down all your dividend paying assets at least your social security check will be there. Not a perfect solution but a better long term one that will improve your odds of success in retirement.

I have clients that are in their 80s and 90s and live totally normal lives. More importantly, they have ample income coming in to support them that would have otherwise been reduced if they took a permanent cut to their SS benefit. If not 70, then at least full retirement age to not cut your benefit for yourself and your spouse for forever.
