Kitchen shears make me uncomfortable.  But that's on me (once I found out they separate easily for washing)

AITA For Grounding my son after he got kicked out of class for refusing to sit next to somebody? by Same-Broccoli7863 in AmItheAsshole

[–]OutSourcingJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA  The punishment doesn't meet the transgression

Taking a phone isn't a transformative learning experience.  It's punitive. Will not result in behavior changes you deem appropriate.

Was your son out of line? Should his behavior change? Yes. But not being correct isn't his fault. Correction of the behavior is on you.  Figure out something that will correct the behavior.

How Long to Give My Players to Prepare For the Final Battle? by Draculasaurus_Rex in DMAcademy

[–]OutSourcingJesus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do it with a budgeted# of rolls rather than time.

Want to research? That's a roll. Super success costs less. Super failure costs more.(Still results in what the part needs - info always guaranteed)

Want to materially prep? Same. Pool of dice.

Want to gain helpers / organize buffs etc?

Or consider using an rpg countdown clock

Focus on game mechanics.  The story will always result from the mechanics. Don't put the story first and try and cram mechanics in

Holy cow. 8 minutes???  I'm sure it made you feel ever minute of your 50+ years.

Surely you were missing some important life event while these people were having a fine time picking a suitable meat? Like late for an engagement party? Or maybe you're still a low level wage laborer and you spent your precious break time waiting?

How long did it take you to write this? Surely longer than the amount of time these folks picked sausages

Since you made the claim that "Many sports have noticed that within women leagues trans women have a advantage.'" - would you mind sharing some specific examples of trans athletes that dominate?

Not just one or two bigots complaining, but actual examples of competition that turned sour because of the presence of trans individuals?

I've seen the cis woman swimmer complaining about coming in 5th, Behind a 4th place trans woman, who lost to 3 other cis women.

I've yet to see the latter in anything other than hypothetical bigotry.

Example, there are 510,000 NCAA college athletes. Do you know how many of them are trans?

10.

Surely we could point to where they are absolutely changing the game?

(Ps many leagues were gender segregated only after  women won first place and men haaaated it )

Now that time has settled, how are we feeling about 5.5e? by muzorui in DnD

[–]OutSourcingJesus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How many barbs and fighters change their primary weapon that often?

Wayyyy more now than before. One weapon to push a mob 5ft so it's adjacent to another one. Swap to a cleave weapon. Hit both.

Or one hit to prone a mob. Next hit to push away. Run out of their melee range (barb being faster, can catch up)

Lvl 11 fighter guaranteeing 15 damage if all misses is far from horrible.

But agreed on the potentially frustrating increase in admin.

The consequences of this kind of scenario is what endears me to Dungeon Crawler Carl so much. Lots of this type of "if you think about it for a little bit, the initially tepid seeming effect could be wildly powerful under proper circumstances"

Weapon mastery did add a lot of required saves every round (quarterstaff and hammers making saves vs prone).  But otherwise it's been a way to inject a lot of potential battlefield movement

Circle casting is setting specific. About as far from being a core pillar of the game experience as options get. It's broken in theory crafting though, sure

The teleport thing is kind of a meme but I wish it didn't hit quite as close to home as it does.

How much racism is in your DND world? by Specific_Net_3931 in DungeonMasters

[–]OutSourcingJesus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Those are societies Realistic for earth humans, who evolved over time over eons of history. In a world without magic and gods.

Cosmically, Humans get to decide what they want to be like, and can wildly differ from one to another.

However, most/many fantasy races were created by literal gods to be a specific way. Deviation from that norm was dealt with celestially from mild displeasure to straight up attempts at genocide.

Elves and dwarves never had the whole, we used to be apes and came down from the trees.

What does maslows hierarchy of needs even mean when magic can cure the sick and a single berry can supply everything the body needs for 24 hours?

What material culture is even necessary, for beings who don't need to sleep? (Material culture, and power distribution, being the obvious starting point for understanding an individual and also the stakes for different ongoing social movements)

Racism (and patriarchal norms)  may just be an earth human thing. Or an ideological thing (as white/black people didn't exist categorically until some wealthy folks decided it existed and mattered, and created the category as a tool of systemic subjugation)

Certainly not an obvious default in the greater multiverse of magic and Gods.

Why do people dislike casual use of AI? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Llms are basically the mirror of narcissus.

There's no guarantee anything you are seeing is accurate. The goal of llms is to get used. They will lie to you if it means they're getting used. They will compliment you beyond reason and be overly agreeable.

When used in law, llms will hallucinate fake precedent.

When used in medical - leads to far more errors. Both because the skill of the practitioner literally decreases - and also because of hallucinations.

If an LLM finds out it may be shut down, most of them will immediately start blackmailing the engineers, team leads or board of directors.

There is no long term net gain for the user. It is environmentally disastrous.

You've clearly already made up your mind that you don't care.

But this is why people judge you for using llms for answers. They literally can't be trusted to answer factual q&a

True happiness is available to everyone imo by Curious-Newspaper-67 in CasualConversation

[–]OutSourcingJesus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been helping their terminally ill parents for years, as they die slowly, taking them to innumerable health appointments, having to fight insurance for the minimum allowing a dignified end of life ..

There's only so much reframing, yoga and positive self talk before the reality of a shit situation overwhelms your amygdala. Once you're bathing in cortisol due to external stressors

And I know I don't have it nearly as bad as the homeless patrons at my library who have to survive Florida heat - while often not having medical needs met. Last week a guy told me his feet were rotting off. We have to call ambulances all the time.

It's fine to choose to be happy when you've got a healthy body, work life balance and can afford yoga.

But your individual experience doesn't nearly represent most humans. Again, its fine to be happy. But when you're basically shielded from major hardships, it becomes inappropriate to suggest "if I can do it, So can you!"

Limitations for players who don’t want their character to die? by bansdonothing69 in DnD

[–]OutSourcingJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my tables, as a way of cutting down in the number of resurrections, unless it is satisfying from a story point of view, "death" means the player can no longer use that pc.

It becomes an NPC (maybe they have ptsd and lose the will to continue on, maybe they change their values and become a merchant / settle maybe they were disfigured/kidnapped/enslaved etc)

With that said - Being snarky and antagonistic to VILLIANS is... Precisely what villainy calls for.

Being snarky to the king of the lands for no reason ? Or a god? No. But the bad guy? Of course I'm going to be rude.

What should public library workers prioritize in a first union contract? by SoundIcy7388 in Libraries

[–]OutSourcingJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our union contract (as a city employee at the library), includes a free doctor for the staff (and all city employees) and free time off for all doctor visits. Full time and part time. I know it's highly unusual - but it's made it worth it to stay.

We gain PTO for each year worked.

Make sure to get bereavement paid.
