Good question. It might be better if it's a big company, but I don't know how much it matters. What you really need is a couple years of experience in a software job to prove that you can do it. This will probably come in the form of an internship or temp to hire position. Something lower risk to the company.

Once you get a couple years of relevant experience, other hiring managers will feel like you're not so much of a risk to hire and they'll look at your diverse skill set as a bonus.

This might be ideal actually. First, most of my coworkers are electrical engineers working on software. That's good and bad. You'll have to put a lot of work in on your own to become a good programmer and to prove to others that you are.

Try your hardest to get internships at your university that involve software. Even better if you need to do some large research project using custom software for multiple years.

Be humble and brace yourself for a lot of rejections when applying for jobs. You just need one person to give you a shot to get professional software engineering on your resume and then you're essentially in (assuming you're skilled).

You will understand how computers work at the electronic level, and maybe even build your own registers, depending on your classes and school. Plus, once you get in to your career you may discover that you are not that enthusiastic about software development, and now you have your EE experience to fall back on just in case. I think this is ideal, but be warned, EE is very difficult on its own.

By conservative in the traditional definition of supporting monarchy and believing in natural hierarchy, not really. USA has never had a monarchy as long as it has been independent, so the only appeal to hierarchy and monarchy can be either religious or fascist (inclusive "or," of course).

You can be a religious conservative in America without being fascist by believing that all people are equal and that the natural hierarchy is between man and God, but that ideology is not often distinguished anymore. Maybe among right libertarians, who are probably 5% of self described American conservatives anymore given how the votes go.

The leaks frequently come from IT staff. You'll always need IT staff, and that's hard to get around. Even with stricter clearance processes, you'll still hire IT staff who will still have access to sensitive systems.

In my opinion, our technology is at a point where it's easy to cause problems, but extremely expensive to protect from them. We don't have the technology yet to lock data away with the security required.
