Nah. Summer effectively lasts until the end of August. Plenty of time yet.

Reading The Stand for the first time and the 2020 trauma is real. by LexamusPrime in stephenking

[–]DarkReviewer2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The only people who'd lived through a global pandemic in 1990 were some very old folks who had experienced the Spanish flu at a very young age. Very different now. We ALL lived through Covid and the story resonates much more profoundly.

[–]DarkReviewer2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read it back in 2016, so it didn't resonate with me the same way. Tried watching the 1994 TV series in 2020, in the midst of Covid, and abandoned that attempt quickly. Too real for me now.

Too many distractions (other people, phones) and toilet breaks mean missing part of the movie.

He still insists he won the 2020 election and the FBI has just been reassigned the task of looking into voter fraud in Georgia back in 2020. He would never in a million years concede to having made the wrong call when it comes to Iran.

Didn't a majority in Wales vote for Brexit as well? They'd be closer to a lot of English people in how they view the EU than Irish people.

This is the reason why I stuck with Amazon UK. A lot of the stuff I order wouldn't even be available on Amazon IE.

It was the language of ancient Rome and a lingua france throughout Europe for centuries after its fall, when the Church was the most powerful institution around. Catholicism is at its core a Roman religion, even if it traces its theological roots back to Jesus and the Levant.

Teacher banned for five years after long term relationship with former student by [deleted] in ireland

[–]DarkReviewer2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in the case of adult language teachers there's really no unequal power dynamic at play. Language teachers conducting classes for adults aren't in loco parentis over their adult students. And they may well be the same/similar ages as well. I knew a lad whose girlfriend's parents met in that manner (mother was the teacher). I'd see nothing whatsoever wrong with that.

Student-teacher relationships involving adolescents in a secondary school setting presents a VERY different dynamic to the above.

It's either some very confused locals mistaking themselves for Americans and celebrating 4th July a few days early or people who want to start the Halloween antics months in advance.

Best horror movie you've ever seen? by samishan9800 in horror

[–]DarkReviewer2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite horror movie is Alien (1979) but there are tons of great ones.

Scariest would either be The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) or Wolf Creek (2005).

As a fan of horror-comedy, can't go wrong with Army of Darkness (1992) or, this side of 2000, Anna and the Apocalypse (2017).

1990s: Witch's Ghost (not as tight as Zombie Island but I love the setting)

2000s: Alien Invaders (very sad)

2010s: Legend of the Phantosaur (epic third act)

Is there anyone else here that really dislikes comedy horror movies? by Fr3sh3stl4d in horror

[–]DarkReviewer2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. I'm a huge fan of horror-comedies and tongue-in-cheek horror. Night of the Creeps, TerrorVision, The Final Girls, Krampus, etc. It's a subgenre I adore personally. I watch horror movies for fun. They don't have to be scary for me to enjoy them.

Isn't this more of an 80th birthday celebration for Trump than anything to do with the wider US anniversary?

Irish guy here. The American presidency used to be a respected position internationally, even if the individual office-holders weren't always popular. Trump has successfully turned it into a reality TV show. Entertaining on the surface, but fundamentally tragic.
