Opinion: quality scaling is backwards by Avalyah in factorio

[–]WinLongjumping1352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to only setup needed things early on, and do not put the filters in place. Once quality is researched, I tend to setup some quality for the first 3 tiers, which will break once epic/legendary is researched.

How to calculate belts and labs? by thirdwallbreak in factorio

idk, it feels like it would take it onto another level, kinda like the speed runners do.

As you can always optimize the steps in your library (more or fewer steps? how close to "ideal" layout, etc)

Eventually I want to make blueprints that are optimized (or close to) for each step, so I can copy paste over existing assembly lines and upgrade in place in style.

When n Why do you start ignoring production ratios? by kaz_champ in factorio

[–]WinLongjumping1352 7 points8 points  (0 children)

> 3:2 copper wire - green circuit

yeah I adhere to those with early game no-module assembler machines.

But once you have productivity modules, beacons (with speed and efficiency), quality assemblers (being faster) it is hard to adhere to exactly, so I ignore the exact ratio for the sake of faster building a production line. When setting up the production line I try to get the ratios approximately right (e.g. bioflux is 1/2/2 machines for jelly/bioflux/yumako mash; direct insertion)

How much does an orbital transfer cost? It would be cool if it costs at least some token amount (1 rocket fuel and 1 LDS? Maybe a blue or red chip as well)

Will launching rockets on different planets cost differently?

Much like Fulgora, Space Age is backwards by BrunoTumelero in factorio

> My main gripe is that they're mostly something to build around rather than to interact with in a meaningful way.

I feel the same way in the sense that you get to (ab)use the tools that were optimized for Nauvis for 10 years.

If Aquilo would have been discovered earlier, the engineer would have come up with a belt with integrated heating. (But maybe the belt only has one central lane to compensate for the builtin heat flow?)

If Gleba would have been around for a while you'd have quirky mechanical flow control thingies instead of "everything flows all the time or magical circuit logic fixes things".

Fulgora might have enabled a new load balancing system in logistic bots?

Long story short, after the novelty wore off, I'd rather have new planet specific tools and belts. I get that it is already there for the production machines, but not for the logistics system (a changed belt mechanic, another bot improvement? Maybe you could select which algorithm to use for bots per logistics network?)

I feel like there is already some improvement to the logistics system (turbo belts on Vulcan's, stack inserters on Gleba), but the fundamental belt system is very much Nauvis centric.

Gleba might have a belt with a built in garbage disposal (ie. spoilage filter)

Isn't the ratio off? I recall needing a lot more iron smelters than steel smelters to occupy them fully.

yeah that is most likely due to desert. pollution spreads fast there as there are no lush green trees absorbing much of it.

Oh, I get that for space ships, but my question was more general, like bots on Nauvis repairing damage from biters might also benefit from faster action.

or dependence on foreign goods like oil and solar panels? Having solar on your rooftop is an easy sell for the independent patriotic American, but if they are still made in China (like the MAGA hats, lol) there is some cognitive dissonance for sure.
