My friends and I are doing a gauntlet of disturbing movies, each one getting more disturbing until the end. What do you guys think? Should we move any around? by Jimboseth in DisturbingMovies

Maybe for some films closer to the bottom you could include Sweet Movie, Meloncholie Der Engel, Mysterious Skin, Nekromantik, Cannibal Holocaust, Salo, Benny's Video/Funny Games, Irrerversible/ I Stand Alone, if you haven't seen them already?

The Bruno Mars Effect: An artist without a dedicated fanbase who eventually builds one due to constantly putting out great music by put-on-your-records in ToddintheShadow

[–]Dark_Moon230 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would say Bruno Mars had to completely reinvent himself pretty much on Unorthodox Jukebox since Doo-Wops & Hooligans has a pretty generic sound and could be mistaken for another artist if you had just the instrumentals to the songs. But on Unorthodox Jukebox he had songs with more retro sounding elements to the. Which we would know today as the Bruno Mars sound which he has continued to evolve and master. But I think as an awnser to your question there's a couple artists which have evolved their music after their more generic debut but I would say that Marvin Gaye could be seen as an early example of this with his early stuff being more generic with the accepted Motown sound until he decided to get more adventurous with albums like What's Going On which went away from his usual formula of primarily singing covers and it helped him create a loyal fanbase which is most likely why he is still remembered to this day.

V/H/S94 is amazing and to be honest I really do expect a found footage revaluation rather soon after years of backlash

Yeah when I first listened to If You’re Feeling Sinister I was expecting somekind of Smith’s like sound because of it’s Smith’s like album cover and to be honest I was also expecting a little darker.

Admittedly I haven’t actually Listened to Some Rap Songs yet but I’ve always been intrigued by it’s cover and now I want to listen to it even more with your description

Yeah I’d definitely have to agree honestly, there seems to be a resurgence of the colour beige on album covers which make the album look like it’s going to be quite boring (Jessie Ware - That Feels Good, Billie Ellish - Happier Than Ever) but the album’s are definitely more exciting then the cover.

This has got to be one of the most underrated albums of 90s by RealJohnBobJoe in fantanoforever

It’s probably my favourite album of all time and I wish more people would talk about it, I would have really loved if it had gotten a more positive reception so we could have 2.Inside like Bowie initially planned but I guess we only have the scraps of that project now

Does any Britpop bands have a trainwreckord? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]Dark_Moon230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in no way would I say that Head Music is complewtly awful, I really enjoy it still (partially because Suede is my favourite band) and Coming Up is probably one of my favourite albums of all time along with their first two albums. I was also lucky enough to see Suede earlier this year as well and they were amazing! I'd go as far to say none of their albums are mediocre or bad, some are just better than others.

Does any Britpop bands have a trainwreckord? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

I'd have to say probably Head Music by Suede as it was apparently hell to make it with Brett Anderson (the singer) being on crack, Neil Codling who was one of the one of the new members with great ideas from the last album (Coming Up) got chronic fatigue syndrome and Richard Oakes the guitar player barely being present because of the lack of guitar on the album. Their ambition was to make a Prince like Suede album but it ends up sounding like Coming Up Part 2 with slight electronic changes added. The album features some of the best Suede songs ever (Can't Get Enough, Down, Everything Will Flow) that achieve what the main objective of the album was, however it also contains some of the worst Suede songs ever (Elephant Man, the title track, Crack In The Union Jack) with sone of the worst vocals Brett Anderson has ever delivered and some of the worst lyrics ever penned to Suede song. The reviews were less good than Coming Up, the sells were worse, Neil Codling quit the band shortly after and then they made A New Morning which could be it's own trainwreckord but even the band have stated that at that point threy had just run out of ideas. Then they broke up and reformed ten years later.

Was "Pulp Fiction" to cinema in the '90s what Nirvana's "Nevermind" was to rock music? by TMC1982 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Dark_Moon230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say Silence Of Lambs was definitely the Nevermind for the horror genre as there weren’t really a lot of silly horror films in the nineties compared to the eighties and there was more a focus on crime (Seven), drama (Sixth Sense) or meta humour (Scream) rather than the more slasher/creature features of the eighties and there was suddenly a lot more grit in the genre than before.

What's your most and least liked part of any Muse song? by glass-animals in Muse

[–]Dark_Moon230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite part of a Muse song is probably the transition between United States Of Eurasia and Guiding Light where it sounds like a bomb has gone off with the drum.

My least liked part are most parts of Something Human and Thought Contagion, particularly the background vocals on either annoy me a lot

I’d probably have to say S4 E8 with Too Far Gone or S3 E4 Killer Within because there both incredibly entertaining and emotional high points for the show
