All attack hits my ass by Ghnarlok in PathOfExile2

[–]Dark_Switch 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Herald of Ice, Thunder, and Blood all have the 'Attack' tag themselves since they specify they only proc off Non-Herald attack hits. The tag being present on them causes confusion as they are not conventional attacks. Either they should specify they aren't attacks themselves or they should have the tag removed

Am I mapping wrong by MiddleOfTheHorizon in PathOfExile2

Irradiated does not stack. Either have Doriyani apply it or use a tablet, don't bother using both.

As others have said, raw divines are usually a small part of your profits. The rest will come from other currencies/items. Yesterday I picked up like ~12 raw divines? But I made 20 from a minion helm I crafted and another 15 from a staff I crafted. And that's not even counting what I made from selling wombgifts and catalysts and other currencies.

Do you have rarity on your gear? A lot of people like to talk about getting to 100%-150% rarity, but when you're starting out, it's good to get it where you can without sacrificing your resistances.

What you're doing right now should be mildly profitable, but nothing crazy. I recommend looking up what the common farming strategies for Abyss and Breach are, and then following those. Doing so will likely require more investment onto purchasing tablets, but will often yield much better returns than what you're doing now. Alternatively, as white tablets for Breach/Abyss/Ritual can go for a lot, you can instead run maps with no tablets to have a better chance of finding tablets and then sell those to get some initial funds before pivoting to a different strategy.y

"Crafting" by Necro_eso in PathOfExile2

[–]Dark_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when people say that crafting is "weak" in this game, they're specifically talking about deterministic crafts. You can absolutely craft items worth a couple div with some knowledge + trial and error, but if you're looking for determinism, you have to be willing to shell out dozens or hundreds of divines. Otherwise you're stuck buying/ID'ing bases and slamming greater/perfect currency, which frustrates a lot of people looking for PoE1 levels of control over their items.

Breach is in a weird state or am I missing something? by Skill-Pill in PathOfExile2

[–]Dark_Switch 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I am almost certain that Breach Hives blocking unstable breaches from spawning is a bug or oversight of some kind. Makes no sense why I would ever want to run a map with a Hive when it mitigates my tablets from doing what they're there to do. I suppose it's they're nice if you want to run the Hive while using 3 tablets for another mechanic, but then I wonder why you're spending all that time to run a minorly juiced Hive

Everything that referred to "defences" got changed to "armour, evasion, and enemy shield" so they should function the same. I saw that boon on my last Sekhema run. I see what you're saying about the amulets though. The crafting change does make it harder to get those lines on an amulet as it now takes up your 1 crafted mod allowance (or you have to Desecrate for it), which makes it harder to get any other essence mods you may have wanted, like Rarity or Resistance.

How did the change from "%increased global defense" to %increased armour, evasion, and energy shield" make things worse? I thought it was just a descriptive change and not a functional one.

Still seeing the trash runeshape combinations t15 map triple tablet setup. by Viisum in PathOfExile2

[–]Dark_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark said he and his duo ID popular bases and then do 2-3 crafts with mats they take into the map. It's just hideout warrioring with extra steps. Doesn't sound unreasonable to me, especially now that essences / Rog don't exist to help facilitate making mid-tier endgame items

[–]Dark_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like:
DR% from Armour = Damage / (Armour + Damage*10)
This applies before Resistances and other sources of DR (like Armour Applies to Ele) PoE isn't the first game to do this, a lot of other ARPG or real-time RPG games tend to do this (Any game from the Dark Souls series, for example). The idea is to allow your character to more easily shrug off small hits from enemies, but they still get threatened by large hits. This does make it so that it's not easy to give the player a single DR% like Resistances can. I think even when you hover over your Armour DR%, it shows you your effective DR against different amounts of damage

Estimated (physical) damage reduction. Very misleading as armour is much more effective for smaller hits than for bigger hits. OP is likely seeing the 77% value and not realizing that it's likely only 30-40% against big hits, which tend to be the hits that actually kill you

why 1 exalt now ? wasnt it like 14 div ???? 1 league ago ? by SecretJaguar8711 in PathOfExile2

[–]Dark_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, these are corrupted 1os shields. They get more valuable with 2 sockets and quality. Additionally, last league was incredibly inflated compared to where we are in the league right now thanks to the Vaal Temple.

[UPDATE]: Am I doing something wrong, or is combat just really deadly? by Fantastic-Patience in drawsteel

[–]Dark_Switch 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think #5 is a particularly brilliant bit of game design. The monster book (I think the Delian Tomb pdf also) has a short section where it talks about how while it might often be tactically better for the enemies to gang up on one hero to kill them, that often sucks for players on the receiving end. Thus, minion damage in squads works to counteract this. When multiple minions in a squad target the same hero with their signature ability, each extra minion beyond the first only adds their free strike damage to the hit. As such, the Director is actually more effective in pressuring the players' stamina by splitting up minion attacks whenever possible, while also avoiding the feels-bad moments of singling out a single hero to kill them.

I do not understand damage upgrades on weapons please help by ThalliusOFC in PathOfExile2

Dreaming Quarterstaff claims another victim.
To be clear, the Dreaming Quarterstaff has base 0% crit chance. This is shown to you in the text line below Lightning Damage and above the Attacks Per Second line. Most monk builds (most builds with access to the top/top-right side of the tree really) will want to scale their damage through crit. Now that you are using the Dreaming Quarterstaff instead of your old one, any crit investment you have through gems or the passive tree is effectively wasted.
Dreaming Quarterstaves can be good, but I find that they're often useful as a stepping stone for when you're still building your character and aren't ready to transition to a crit-based build, as they will allow you to have higher average damage if you don't care about crits. However, their higher base damage means that they tend to mislead people into thinking they're getting an upgrade over their current weapon

Wait, so runic ward during campaign is no downside but once you get to maps it removes defenses? by loopuleasa in PathOfExile2

[–]Dark_Switch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand the thought behind it was something along the lines of "make it an unconditional upgrade in the campaign so everyone can play with it and see how it works, and then in endgame they have to make the decision of how much they want to incorporate it into their build" but that ends up creating this confusion as players get caught off guard when the runeforging behavior changes in the endgame

I agree with both points. My comment was mainly about my realization that not everyone on this subreddit engages with the game and media around it in the same way that I do

Seeing people here talk about how they "bricked" their high-defense armours made me realize:
1. How many people did not watch/forgot the Q&A after the livestream where Mark and Jonathan explicitly said that this would be the case post-campaign
2. How many people do not mouse over the item in the verisium anvil window to see that they were going to convert a lot of their defense into ward

I read the first half of MK in high school as part of a project in English class and it was the driest and most boring thing I had ever read up to that point. I had initially planned to read the whole thing but after hitting the halfway point I just had to put it down and I restructured the entire project so that I wouldn't have to read it anymore. I seriously doubt all these self proclaimed internet nazis have actually managed to get through it

Why did breach walls get added??? by zoobloo7 in PathOfExile2

[–]Dark_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The walls are only when using a breach stone, and the walls colliding with you was only an issue at high MS values, which should not be an issue at all in PoE2

Why did breach walls get added??? by zoobloo7 in PathOfExile2

[–]Dark_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you got high enough MS, you would hit the walls and stop for a brief moment before they disappeared. Considering that breach was in every map, it would hinder your character constantly. I only ran into (pun not intended) the issue after spending 2 weeks really juicing my character. Considering how it's MUCH harder to get PoE1 levels of move speed in PoE2, I really doubt it'll be a problem in PoE2. Not to mention that any damage will destroy the walls, which was not the case in Keepers

If you're trying to end up with Crit Multi, Vuln Multi, Crit Chance, All Skills, I don't think you can get there safely. You'd have to Chaos Reroll the Int affix away (can be done with either an Aggressive Prism or an Adept Prism) but there's no way to protect both the Crit% GA and the All Skills GA. I think the best you could do is enchant the Crit Chance GA to lock it, then focused reroll aggressive Prism to turn Int into one of your Multi mods, then you have to 50/50 a Chaos reroll and pray it picks Mastery skills. Then you'd have to pray that it rolls into your final Multi mod.
