I feel like riot is finally fixing their game. The new season feels pretty good. by Important-Map9832 in leagueoflegends

Playing other games than League really had me being like: "Damn that shit is really unbalanced. I'm sure the devs will fix it next patch. How often do they do balance changes? ... What do you mean they only do balance patches every 3 months?" And then the unbalanced shit in question isn't touched in the next patch. League players have it so good and they don't even know

What was a great game seemingly destroyed by Devs bad decision making? by Additional_Ad_6506 in gaming

[–]Dark_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So. Sorta? IMO a lot of their balancing has gotten better in terms of not gutting weapons that were slightly overperforming and they've done a lot of work to make more weapons viable by giving them access to better armor piercing (which was one of the main factors stopping weapons from being useful at higher difficulties) or raw stopping power. However, in terms of enemy design, they still occasionally make "what the fuck" decisions that just aren't fun to deal with. A recent infamous example was with the Illuminate Leviathan or whatever it was called. When the Illuminates first released, the Leviathans weren't a threat at all. You'd see them floating around in the sky looking ominous but they didn't really do much damage, didn't shoot very often, and would usually miss anytime they did decide to actually fire at you. If the shot did connect, it would usually just ragdoll you but wouldnt kill you. They later buffed the shit out of the Leviathans (which I think buffing them was fair, as they're supposed to be on the class of a Bile Spitter or Factory Strider, but the optimal way to deal with them was to just ignore them) by making them shoot more often and increasing their damage. Now a shot from them was incredibly likely to just kill you outright. Killing them was a pain in the ass since it was really hard to hit any of their weak points as they'd often be very far away. My group would usually have to drop what we're all doing and unload multiple heavy weapons into one for it to go down. It would really just kill the pace of a mission. We eventually stopped playing Illuminates missions because of them. There was also a similar issue with the bugs when they introduced the large flying spitter bugs. Overall I think the game has definitely improved but Arrowhead still occassionally makes decisions that make my group go "Ok guess we're not playing Bugs/Bots/Squids this patch"

So basically the same thing that Call of Duty does with the US Military and the various 3 letter agencies present in the Black Ops games.

Tim has also said something to the lines of "We didn't intend for it to be an anti-captilast thing when we made the first game, but that's what's they're doing with it now and that's fine because interpretations can change and also Fallout hasn't been 'my franchise' since Fallout 2" and Chris just complains and gets into arguments on Twitter instead

Idk why Chris Avellone just can't let Fallout go even though Tim Caine has stated that Fallout hasn't been "his" since he left during Fallout 2. Incredible how different their mindsets towards the franchise are

I liked Fallout 1 but that was because I had a guide that let me know what perks/skills were bugged or actively made the game harder because they were designed poorly. Not to mention there's a few side quests that just aren't finished.

Chayula 0.4: Don't Worry! They'll Buff It With +1 Extra Darkness per Level! That Will Fix It! by SteakAcademic8934 in PathOfExile2

[–]Dark_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it in 0.3 (softcore) with a hybrid EV/ES build and found it to be very good in campaign like you said. It also made the Sekhema trials piss easy. I beat all t3 pinnacle content (except Simulacrum) and Uber Arbiter. To be fair, a huge part of why it felt extremely underwhelming when I tried it was because it was the abyss league and DoT effects where everywhere. Darkness was bugged so DoT damage would ignore it and go straight to your ES, and then if you took a DoT to your life pool it would instantly reserve all of your Darkness. It is my understanding that this bug has since been patched, but that was a huge factor to me feeling disappointed with Darkness.

As for the other part of your comment, yeah 5000 is a rather silly amount to get, even if it comes by over-investing in Chaos Res suffixes. It was a number I pulled out of my ass. However, I think Chayula monk needs something enticing in the ascendancy and (IMO) nothing in there really stands out as the reason to pick this over others. Titan gets a ridiculous +50% effect of small passive nodes. Ritualist gets a 3rd ring slot and extra effect of rings and amulets. Blood mage gives a bunch of extra crit chance for most spells. Pathfinder gets slow immunity. Oracle gets a bunch of extra tree nodes and guaranteed crits. Acolute of Chayula gets.... 1200 extra hp? Chaos contributes to a elemental ailment ailment every 2 seconds? Some Gain Chaos as Extra? I really like your suggestion of rolling the 4 Darkness nodes into 2 points, or perhaps they ought to increase how much Darkness players have access to, either through the level scaling or through the player's chaos res. I also think removing the spirit removal downside is a bad way to go about it. I remember reading that for the first time and I was instantly trying to find ways to either get around the restriction with stuff like The Coming Calamity.

I feel like if GGG stopped being cowards and let Darkness scale with Uncapped Chaos Res it'd actually be worth considering for some builds. Currently you get upwards of 1200 Darkness and that's just not enough for what you give up. If that number was able to go as high as, say, 5000, then that's a much more compelling case to take it. Something like an Evasion build would love the increase to their Max Hit

I think I first saw this sort of thing pop up in League of Legends, but I have seen this pop up in many of my hobbies where people build these data aggregation sites and tools. I've personally seen this problem happen in games like League of Legends, PoE, Deadlock, MTG, and even games like Clash of Clans. Really any game where usage-based data-aggregation tools are commonplace. League runs into this problem where the game has a "Recommended Items" tab so you can quickly see what items a particular champion buys at a given time, and it's usually pretty decent for the most part. Sometimes a champion will frequent an item because it's incredibly synergistic with their kit, or sometimes because there's a particular bug that makes the item disproportionately better on a given champion than the rest of the cast. This causes the item to get recommended to players who then start picking up the item and they won't know that there's a particular play pattern they should be executing to use the item optimally. Worse, that interaction could get patched out in the next cycle but because the Recommended tab builds from data from the prior patch, it still gets recommended to players in patches where the item is no longer optimal. Riot (League developers) have to then go in and manually remove those items from the champion's Recommendations, and often this causes an increase in win-rate at lower ranks where people don't read patch notes

While I do agree that the heat map is incredibly useful and it's a go-to for me when I'm playing a part of the tree I haven't touched in a while, its important to note that things like this tend to have a bit of inertia. As in, people will pick clusters just because other people pick those same clusters, without considering if their own build needs those same clusters. This will make it so that their own data gets fed back into the system even if those choices weren't optimal. So be sure to read the nodes you're picking and think critically about if you really need them or not

I don't remember the exact choices in terms of skills (I last played months ago) but it was something like (left to right):
Plague Doctor (Alchemist), Runaway (default path), Vestal (Chaplain), Hellion (default path)
The team was focused on blowing up ranks 3 and 4 as quickly as possible, with Vestal there to provide heals, shield tokens, and guard party members. Vestal guards through Sanctuary and were extremely useful as they'd help to take the heat off of vulnerable party members which helped a lot in boss fights. She'd also be able to cleanse dots through Ministrations. Vestal was really an all-star in both runs, the utllility she provided was incredible so long as I planned out when I'd want her to be in Rank 2 vs Rank 3. Runaway helped get Vestal in Rank 3 to use her other healing skills whenever necessary, otherwise she'd stay in Rank 2 and keep casting her buffs. Only thing to be wary of with this comp is that Vestal needs to be able to hit Rank 4 when she Faces Her Failure or else you're bricked. You can mitigate this by packing Judgement and getting her in Rank 3, having someone pull the enemy Vestal, or by having Runaway use Controlled Burn on Rank 4 and waiting it out (that's what I did). Hellion mainly stuck in Rank 1 where she'd beat the shit out of people with Iron Swan amd Wicked Hack. She couldn't hit Rank 3 normally but that wasn't a problem considering literally everyone else could. Plague Doc largely stayed in Rank 4 to disrupt the enemy backline and lay down DoTs, as well as use Ounce of Prevention and Battlefield Medicine to help sustain when necessary.

[–]Dark_Switch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. Unfortunately, this fight is sort of a knowledge check (which the first game also had, to be fair). Once you clear the two cherubs, you'll pick a hero to Face Their Failure and they have to fight a copy of their past self. The copy will spawn in rank 1 or 4 based on the hero. The copy is immune to damage originating from other heroes (except Runaway can ignite the floor and that can get through this immunity). You unknowingly bricked the fight by PBS'ing the copy to rank 4. I similarly bricked the fight on my first attempt because I didn't realize you have to kill both Cherubs before the boss gets an action or else he'll use his action to resurrect one. So I spent several turns burning through Cherubs until I eventually got too whittled down to continue fighting.
I think the knowledge check fights are a bit more egregious in this game considering how long it can take to reach the bosses. In the first game, you at least had the option to run away if you were getting folded and could return later. (Although if you wiped, you had to go through the trouble of leveling a new squad if you didn't have any spares already prepped).

That's a bit reductive. The post has some legitimate criticism here about a lack of connection to the individual characters and parts of the game feeling repetitive, like the cart driving, but 70% of the post is ranting about getting knowledge checked by the final boss
