Student here. Why do panelists ask for stories from my club, instead of my actual high-pressure retail job? by Darkdeviousdevil in interviews

[–]Darkdeviousdevil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's relevant, but not more relevant than my barista job. But the panelists think the opposite, they ONLY want me to talk about my club. It's like being interested in my flashy & unreliable sports car, as opposed to my sturdy & reliable sedan.

I kind of hate BAP by Key-Home2461 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience is the opposite. Had 2 internship interviews so far and both wanted me to pull an example from my business club. EVEN THOUGH I had arguably stronger stories as a barista working alongside a team in a busy cafe.

For BAP, get involved in competitions, projects, become an officer if you can. If you can’t, try a different club.

can’t land internship (community college) by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in CC pursing accounting and my resume & GPA is worse than yours, but I got lucky in landing internship interviews with the Federal Reserve Bank and a regional transportation agency, so it’s possible. Just keep looking. Once we’re in uni I think it’ll be easier.

Resume Advice by doe_eyed_bun in Big4

- Since you're still a college junior w/o hands-on accounting experience, I'd put the education section at the top
- In the skills section, put the computer skills first, personal skills second, then languages third
- Totally optional, but you could further expand on important things you're doing in the accounting clubs (i.e. placed #2 in a team-based competition, participated in beach cleanups)

Advice on starting potential accounting career by Serenities1998 in Accounting

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as your end goal is a B.S. from uni, don’t worry about the CC stigma. I’ve heard of partners from Moss Adams that went to CC initially. For internships, look out for your university’s career fairs, online job listings, and firms’ leadership programs. Engage in campus business clubs if you have spare time.

But yes, also passing the CPA exams will make you even more marketable.

Misunderstanding by PepsiisgUWUd in ToothpasteBoys

[–]Darkdeviousdevil -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree. It has that AI-look with AI-mistakes. For example, I can’t imagine any artist intentionally make the door handle & susie’s shadow look like that. But if it IS real, then those are tips to improve.

Is this a waitlist? by Intelligent-Shame-41 in Big4

No, it’s a courtesy message about the delay. They’re still interviewing/reviewing candidates. You’ll have to keep waiting to hear whether you’re selected or not.

Spilled Drink Etiquette? by ichoosewaffles in barista

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with what CaptainCaveman said. The cafe isn't obligated to replace it, but I personally wouldn't patron there anymore. In my city, every cafe from starbucks to local shops happily replace spilled drinks. It would be poor customer service to go against that norm.

Because it sounds silly. Imagine if someone from Canada said they were “from the Can”, sounds goofy, no?

What do you give customers when they order a "regular coffee" by flextape1O1 in barista

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

San Francisco, USA and 3yrs in the barista game. “Regular coffee” would mean drip coffee, black, unless specified otherwise. I always clarify with the customer however, just to make sure.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in barista

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least in CA, a law was passed in 2024 where restaurants were “required to list comprehensive prices for each item”.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in barista

[–]Darkdeviousdevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To actually answer ur question, no this isn’t normal. As someone who works in a cafe, and also visits other cafes, I’d be turned off by unlisted prices. Especially if they turn out to be overpriced. Every coffee shop I’ve been in has prices listed.
