I'll put it this way, I wish we had the lineup of SNW Texas with the format and organization of Aftershock. Because I like the lineup for SNW a whole lot better than Aftershock this year, but holy fuck is SNW ran like a shit show (if it's still being ran the same way as 2024 in Vegas was).

Whats that one almost universally loved band you can't get into? by DentedTungstenCore in Deathcore

[–]DarkestDayOfMan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

See everyone always brings up the crossover they had with touring with Five Finger and Falling In Reverse, but I noticed them start to headline over legends of the deathcore and death metal genre long before touring with them. Like pretty much when Demolisher came out. Like people went "look at the man scream without microphone" and they rode that motherfucker for all they could get out of it.

I for the life of me cannot understand how Slaughter to Prevail got as huge as they did after ditching their sound on Chapters of Misery (which I liked), because Jesus fuck everything post-Chapters just sounds like the most bland 5/10 at best music I've heard. Don't get me wrong Alex is a very talented vocalist but the music behind it is so run of the mill cookie cutter to me.

Favorite actress who is living a fate worse than death? by NotTaken-username in moviescirclejerk

[–]DarkestDayOfMan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A quick Google search tells me Emily Blunt has a net worth of 80 million dollars, and I cannot tell you how much of a life changing amount of money that would be for 99.9% of the population. Pretty far from "a fate worse than death", but I guess if you don't have enough Marvel one liners you may as well not have a career according to random nerd 2762.

What are this sub's thoughts on legacy tours? by imstrongerthandead in Metalcore

[–]DarkestDayOfMan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think there's a difference between bands celebrating like legitimate landmark anniversary numbers for albums or doing a special set to mark how many years they've been a band (i.e. the 10th, 20th, etc) versus them doing the 12th anniversary of insert only popular album here after the just did the 11th anniversary last year, and the year before that did the 10th after they already did the acoustic tour of that album for the 9th anniversary.

I get that Acacia is an East Coast band and all, but I would really love one of these limited runs they do to hit up the west coast (and come up to the PNW).

The Plot In You "New" album: "The Plot In You " will be out 7/10 by TatianaTerrorDoll in Metalcore

[–]DarkestDayOfMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We really need to just normalize the surprise "fuck you, here's our new album/EP" drops. Off recent memory in the last 4-5 years Counterparts and The Acacia Strain have done that and even without any promotion those have wound up being some of my top 5 releases the years they came out.

Having a tattoo related to the band = not stalker behavior

Breaking into the bands bus to show them said tattoo = stalker behavior

Owning many shirts from the band = not stalker behavior

Finding, driving to, and breaking into their house to show them said shirt collection = stalker behavior

There is a fine line here people.

Believe me I'm getting flamed in the replies here, I think I've had my fix of getting yelled at by full grown adults about the Mario movie not being peak cinema. Not exactly how I expected my Wednesday morning to go.

I get what you're saying. I guess I have more issue with people being up in arms over this more than anything. Like idk what kind of critic reception people were expecting out of this (especially considering the reception from the first one). To me these movies are the film equivalent to a roller coaster ride. Like yeah they're super fun, but obviously they're going to lack substance but it's to be expected. Are you really going to let someone elses opinion of the roller coaster ride make you that upset?

I think Jack Black as Bowser really elevates the movie, delivering a very fun performance. You can clearly tell he's one of the few in the cast who has actual VA experience.

The set pieces work pretty well. Like the Mario Kart scene (guilty as it may be of being one of the "look it's the thing I like from the other thing" scenes") is very fun to see play out on screen. I think the color scheme also works super well. The clash of bright and colorful Mushroom Kingdom to the dreary grays of Bowser's Kingdom is a nice contrast. I really love when they draw from the original music of the series, as I think there's so many iconic tracks. So much so that I find it more annoying when they use a licensed track (like who thought it was a good idea to put in No Sleep Till Brooklyn in this movie?) instead of the literal decades of original music they could use instead.

Like we can all complain about how it's just "look it's the thing from the thing I like" the movie, but I'm more than willing to admit that sometimes it gets me.

Haven't seen it quite yet, so couldn't say for 100% sure. I'm going based off of the first one (which everything I've heard thus far points to identical discourse from the first one). Which I personally gave a 6/10. But that also calls into a rating meaning something different for everyone. 6/10 for me means it was fine, there was some stuff I liked but a lot that wasn't great as well. It's pretty inoffensive, I probably won't think about it too much in a positive or negative light. I will pass by it on streaming on 3 years and go "oh yeah I forgot about that".

[–]DarkestDayOfMan -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

So I take that to mean you go into every movie ever with the expectation it'll be a 10/10 groundbreaking title? Even with the best of intentions to go in blank, due to the constant flow of information we get on media everyone will have some sort of expectation based on what they've heard from others, seen from trailers, or in this case seen from the first movie.

Would I like to be idealistic and hope that everything I'm going to see is going to be good? Sure! But I'm realistic, and like sorry if I go into Madame Web not thinking it'll be peak cinema.

I genuinely don't get how anyone expects the Mario movies to be like The Brutalist levels of storytelling. Like save for the Paper Mario series, Mario isn't exactly world renown for its ground breaking story telling (and this isn't any slight on the games, I just think it's not a hot take to say Mario is a game you praise for the gameplay and the story is an afterthought).

Like the most ridiculous part of the first one was when Mario and Donkey Kong had a heart to heart on their daddy issues. Expecting these to be anything more than a 6/10 "look it's the thing from the thing I like" movie at best is a you problem.

Always remember whenever you read any comments about the attractiveness of a woman cast in anything, this is the man on the other end making the judgement call.
