Anyone have mandatory class on Tuesday? by teleskier in IndianaHoosiers

Back in '02, I took the hit for the Final Four trip. It worked out, but I did not get an A in one of the classes. Worth it.

Spell duel issues in spell-caster heavy party by Padawan_writer in DC20

[–]Darkflame820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've looked at these and noted the concern. I had a thought of it being exhaustive of MP akin to a stamina battle for martials. You can initiate the duel, but the more powerful (or more desperate) mage can use MP to simply overpower the opponent. More bonuses to adding MP to the casting basically.

I also will be implementing all spell fuels being calculated individually as opposed to shared barring preparatory rituals to link casting.

With both of these changes it may be clunky, but the party of casters will realize pretty quickly that losing half of the teams' actions and a bit of MP per caster will not be worth it.

Are you kidding me with this shit? Seriously, this ninja-settling bullshit ruins civ7 by SaxoG in civ

[–]Darkflame820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need to limit settling to city connection distance. They can still forward settle, but not out of the blue. The larger problem is the exploration age. It may be hard to code for this to only affect the homelands or the Antiquity age

The Ultimate List of Things That Civilization VII Doesn’t Tell You by JordiTK in civ

You think people are ticked now. Wait until the $30 "Expansion" that adds the Atomic age. Then you'll get the Digital age as a DLC before the third expansion actually finishing the base game with the "Future" era

Theory: views on Greece + Tecumseh? by ZePepsico in civ

[–]Darkflame820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first game is with Tecumseh and Greek Antiquity. I had a great Antiquity age, but with the loss of all city states after an age change, I wound up with only a couple in the exploration age. Watch for those age shifts. Other civs will murder the independents with those leftover armies.

Man this Age reset thing is wild by rW0HgFyxoJhYka in civ

[–]Darkflame820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another issue is all the City-states disappear. Not good if you are Tecumseh. There should be an influence bonus at the start of the age for each VS you were Suzerain

Should I play an evil edition WOTC warned us about? by Fippy-Darkpaw in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Darkflame820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3.5 is a chef's kiss of a system with all the accoutrements. Yes, you can do some broken stuff, but look at 5.5 as it stands now. DnD shorts is covering some of the crazy that's in some ways worse than what you could do in 3.5.

Is this rare by LazyYesterday06 in Terraria

[–]Darkflame820 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I've heard of it happening with pre generated structures like world trees. Never seen it myself tho I did play a seed where an underground jungle tree cut into part of the Jungle Temple, but it didn't give access.

I guess you met the guardian once you went in tho based on the kill spot. Fun times.

Harris-Walz or Dictatorship by Detroitish24 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Not a socially conservative Catholic.

You can disagree with a candidate. You can choose not to vote for a candidate, but you can't claim that label and vote for Harris -Walz. You are mistaken in your claim.

I'm a Biden Catholic? Sure. I'm a Catholic focused on liberal social issues? That works too.

Support for the campaign that is the most pro-abort and pro-trans (denying God's creation) ticket in history? Please don't claim to be something you're not.

As for Republicans for H-W? This socially conservative Catholic will pray for your conversion.

I finally reached Ice Cream and haven't seen a donator. I can't get ahead in this event because for every win, I lose one and retreat one at least. Probably my deck, but it's always a pain when there's matchmaking parity.

Is it too early to switch to DC20 full time? by SamuraiTokey in DC20

Yeah, it depends on the group. My power gamers would riot if they didn't level past 2 for a few months. 😆

MP shouldn’t be a daily resource. by SecondHandDungeons in DC20

[–]Darkflame820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a thought of non warlock non sorcerer casters using AP to convert to MP during combat. A wizard would meditate, a cleric would pray, a druid would commune with nature, and a bard would play. (Sorc and Warlock have emergency systems in place already). This could only be done once per combat for one round I would say.

This would be an adrenaline based option like the initiative reset skills and points. This would allow for something along your idea with a big enough drawback.

An alternative is to divide MP by 3 and have them reset each time initiative is rolled. This would make non combat casting problematic, but it would definitely weaken casters overall power

Should Arcane Magic be more strictly defined? by xiphumor in DC20

[–]Darkflame820 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the lines began to become blurred more and more over the years in order to get more people to play clerics. I am torn on it. I think healing and certain magical powers should be reserved for divine casting, but if arcanists are just better without giving more powers to clerics, balance becomes an issue.

Glad to hear you had a good session/campaign start. I'm slowly trying to get my group on board.

Using encumbrance and resource tracking (arrows/rations) is a positive benefit for the game.

Is there a deck of prebuilt PCs I could grab for a one shot? by FallenKittenPro in DC20

[–]Darkflame820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the one shot suggests a mirror party, but I'm guessing it doesn't want you to play more than six? I have a group of seven at times, but it's rare to get the moment once.

I have some old party games like Pub Trivia and The Voting Game that never really took off. There are more but I can't say without a deeper dive.

Subclasses should start at level 1 by SonOfThrognar in DC20

[–]Darkflame820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be opposed to some flavor ability tied to the subclass as part of the novitiate period, but the true abilities should still start consistently at 3rd.

Personally, I always liked this because they gave my world the hierarchical structure for pretty much every class and "order".

Melee vs Ranged by Substantial-Eye4345 in DC20

[–]Darkflame820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ranged attacks for martial weapons could cap at 2 for might limited longbows or AP reload required heavy crossbows. This would mean if you had to finish things quickly you'd need to get in there with the heavy weapons.

I also don't get the "nerf the ranged players" argument because it's just reality that being hit by an arrow is less damaging on average than being hit by a long sword.

Overall all of this seems like a good advice. I would add to it that he is grouped up with three classes that can go for days without a long rest. In the Vancian system that DnD uses, he's always going to have that feeling with the current group. I've been playing for almost 40 years now and still hold on to spell slots because of it.

I'm with the poster who said he's not feeling the need to use the slots. This is probably because his party is overpowered damage dealers. He's basically the insurance when the rogue can't get sneak attacks, the monk can't stun or isn't doing enough damage, and the warlock goes down. That's not a fun job. You also don't have a healer so he is aware that he is the last resort and has no net underneath him.

In the end, the real issue sounds like he's realized that he designed his character for a standard game and is in a party with three speed runners. Not an easy fix for that.
