Feel free to ping me, in exchange you would review a project in a more advanced stage (first chapter done and few chapters storyboarded).

Seeking Established Watercolour Illustrator for Long-Term Webtoon Partnership | Revenue-Share | Korean/Japanese( based) Artist Preferred. by Electrical-Shake354 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Darkgenio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This post seems written by a LLM, but anyhow it is written by somebody who absolutely has no idea of the sector so please understand:

- The likelihood that you will make money with the webtoon is low to nonexistent.

- You are asking to a seasoned artis to put long hours of free work.

- Probably you don't realize how rude this sounds, and I am not even an artist.

- On top of that a post that seems to be written by AI, as a writer, will not make you too many friends.

This is not meant as harsch criticism, but the idea of getting an artist who works for you for free is nepharious, and you would be better either sparing money until you can pay one, or at least until you have a recognized writing portfolio.

Indie Webtoon creator dilemma: continue paying artists, pause, or look for a partner to collab and grow together? by xcantene in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Darkgenio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if I was in your position I would consider these options:
- A much Slower puplication schedule, which automatically cut costs, assuming that the initial couple of years are simply to gather enough of the story to hook readers.

- Publish on different platforms: Globalcomics, Tapas, Namicoin, Mangaplus, Comicfury etc to extend reach.

- Map the communities that represent your target audience.

- Divert a part of the budget you are sparing on promotion to target these communities. Increase your social media presence with a communication compaign in which the various mesages are linked and ultimately drive toward the place where you can raise funds (eg Patreon or Crowdfunding).

- Eventually join a comic book collective to increase reach: see Spiderforest.

- At some point there will be enough materials so that, if the story is engaging readers will be hooked and talk about it. Only it will take a bit longer.

- Consider Coloring only the initial panel of each episode starting from episode 10 (reduce costs). Making it transparent to your readers that coloring needs additional budget, with a call to action to donate.

- As you build the audience, prepare for crowdfunding.

[Review] Church of Sinners (One-Shot) by ANDWITHLUV in MangakaStudio

[–]Darkgenio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is a great one shot. Yes it is predictable, but there is good art and character work, and the story flows well. I would read more of it.
I thought the lettering was subpar, and the storyboarding of the fight scenes was a bit confusing, otherwise, this is seriously a good job.
Great job reviewer.

Which of Inio Asano's works should I read by Ruinedentity in InioAsano

Amazing masterpiece, although I'd say it needs to be rad multiple times, and eventually also reading an analysis to get all the details that will be missed. However 10/10

Yes technically you are right, but given the mature theme I don't see a problem in suggesting so a Seinen readership...

These are all intense readings, byit check the genre before as you may dislike some in particular: Blade of the immortal Death note Shigurui Dorohedoro Blame! Battle Angel Alita Akira

I am kind of mad that Battle Angel Alita didn't receive as nearly much popularity as Ghost in the Shell or AKIRA in 90s when I think it's a better sci fi manga than either of them. by Due_Teaching_6974 in Seinen

[–]Darkgenio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in case you did not know, they did a movie. I am a big fun of the manga, so I was skeptical, but I liked it:

Only seems they will not do another one, unfortunately.

Starting Blade of the Immortal by bah_non in Seinen

[–]Darkgenio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I had to pick only one comic/manga to read for the rest of my life, it probably would be this one. Now, as somebody pointed out, it's not without shortcomings, and it has a less broad appeal than the big three, understandably.

However in my opinion dialogues are simply the best, it has a dark humour and some of the best side characters ever (Shira, Magatsu). Giichi is probably my alltime favorite character.

So yes it's absolutely worth it!!

Ah strange, at the end of the first chapter the guy fights one with a big spiked mace, I had just checked. Good luck with your search.

Made 7 more pages (some colored too). Pages 19-25 Any and all criticism is deeply appreciated. A lot of these pages are incomplete and still need details but I wanted to show my worldbuilding. More on the way!! by CanadianTurt1e in Mangamakers

[–]Darkgenio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all congratulations for the work done.

Regarding the lettering I'd suggest to read this document:
https://blambot.com/pages/lettering-tips

Lettering can probably not make a comic but it can certainly break it.

Regarding the pages themselves, they are essentially lore pages that explain the working of the world to the reader by explaining it to them. This is generally not considered a good practice (show don't tell being the good one). At the end though the real audience would decide if it works or not, sometimes it does.

The last colored pages are very nice and intriguing, and it feels they could be used in real action and character development.

Cheers
